Red Dead Redemption 2

How likely is it that RDR2 will be pretty optimized right off the bat?

I didn't play GTA V on PC when it came out, nor have much experience with Rockstar new releases on PC.

Are we all expecting some headaches here? Or are they usually pretty solid on day 1?
havent had a single problem with GTAV so i would assume RDR2 will be solid, hopefully...

GTA5's PC port was amazing. So were earlier GTA games...except 4. To this day 4 still has weird performance issues. I blame whatever engine they created for that game.

I just don't have time for this game otherwise I would pick it up. Maybe if it was on Steam HEY Rockstar launch this title on Steam.

GTA 5 was on Steam why keep playing King of the Hell with your own launcher. By the time GTA 5 was on Steam it was a dated game already.

I still play a little GTA IV every time I do a major upgrade to see if it will run 100% smooth and each time it gets a little closer but still isn't right. To be fair though performance on consoles was much worse than on any PC with at least a quad core CPU so it wasn't really a port issue as much as game issue like you said.

I'm gonna play this but I'm super not happy about having to install the Rockstar launcher.

Gotta get through BL3 first though.

I played GTA V when it first came out on PC and had no problems running it maxed out and it smoothly and glitch free.

A far improvement from that buggy mess that was the GTA IV port years back.

Looking forward to playing this.

Wasn't just amazing, it was the epitome of a well done port. Hell even its SLI scaling was like 99% or something.

So GTA5's PC performance and optimization isn't a guarantee that RDR2 will be amazing and perform on potato PC's and be bug-free - but it set a precedent that's definitely encouraging.

yet you have time to post about it...
less posting more gaming.
Eh, yeah man...

I'm hoping this will be worth while for PC. I wouldn't mind playing it.

You make time for the things that are important. Gaming.

I can't game everyday like you guys which Is why I read and watch videos. If I play games everyday my eyes take a toll on me from too much screen time. LCD hangover basically until a different screen technology comes out.

I do the same thing. For some reason I really like GTA4's story, setting, and music, so I go back to it every few years. It's a pretty awful game, but I love it anyway.
I feel like performance increases have basically plateaued at this point. The last few times I tried playing it, there were no changes between an older CPU/GPU combo. It pulls 60fps most of the time, but it still has weird (but major) hiccups in certain areas with long view distances.

GTA5 runs like butter on almost anything...until you crank up the details and go off-roading in the brush-covered hills near the desert. I don't think a rig exists that can maintain 4K/60 through those areas with the details maxed.

Red Dead Redemption 2 looks gorgeous on PC, but mouse controls make it special

Exploring in first-person is much better on PC thanks simply to well implemented mouselook...Pad controls are borderline sluggish, seemingly to give your actions a sense of heft that fits Red Dead Redemption 2's methodical pacing...The combination of 60fps performance and mouselook significantly changes the way the game feels to play, which to me matters more than visual improvements to a game that looked great already...

150 GB download. That's my monthly data cap.

Ultimate edition is Deluxe pricing and deluxe pricing is standard pricing.

Hells yeah.

Got the deluxe. I'm ready as well.

I've looked and have found nothing.

I'm hoping it's more like Microsoft w/ a global unlock at Zulu time 0001, and not like Steam where it's the middle of the release day.

Anyone see any articles that show the PC options menus? I am hoping the game has an in-game frame limiter.

No, but given GTA5 I suspect it will have about every option available you could think of.

trying not to pick this up, I'm not done with Code Vein yet... but I wan't too kneecap some mother fuckers!

I can't see that site from work, but a little known "secret" is that an RTX2080Ti can't run GTA5 at 60fps in 4K/Ultra either. At least not with the settings maxed.
You'll think it can until you start getting near water or you head offroad in an area with lots of shrubs. It'll bottom out into the 40's before you even know what happened. Those highest end settings for shadows, reflections, filtering, etc. are killers even with the best hardware you can find.
That said, most of them don't look all that much better anyway. Especially when driving.

1070ti here. Think I'll be able to run 2k res on decent graphic settings?

For those interested in playing this on Linux, it appears that RDR2 natively supports Vulkan - which is at least a step in the right direction and makes play with something like Wine/Proton easier. Some hypothesize that this is in preparation for its Stadia release down the line, but there's no clear evidence of this as of yet. Regardless, native Vulkan support is nice to see.

On the topic of buying the game and the launch, it seems that the Nov5th launch is either via the Rockstar Social Club/Launcher or Epic Games Store, right? If I recall correctly regarding GTA5 and Rockstar Social Club, you could essentially download the game "on its own" with a self-updating patcher and whatnot that handled GTAV/Online. Will the same thing be possible here, or do you have to use the actual Rockstar Launcher if you buy a Rockstar Social Club key? Also, regarding Epic, I have to wonder - if your key activates on Epic Game Store, does it also download Rockstar Launcher (or a separate individual patcher/updater ) from within? Do you still need a Rockstar Social Club account in order to play at all (or certainly Red Dead Online?)?

I must admit, that between those two it seems there is ZERO reason to buy the game via Epic or truly, via anywhere else other than Rockstar's own site - they are offering a significant discount (its noteworthy that other sites are NOT offering discounts; even 3rd party sites like GMG that usually do pretty well contractually are likely being cowed to keep discounts small if available at all - HumbleStore doesn't offer any discount even for Monthly subscribers that usually get at least 20%), and more pre-order content than anywhere else. At least this completely outmodes the necessity for Epic Store, so that's a small plus.

The bigger issue is the lack of Steam support. Supposedly the game is coming to Steam in December, which just seems really stupidly unfair - especially after how well Steam has done for Rockstar in the past. Releasing a first-party title only on your first-party store/platform is one thing and bad enough, but differing release dates on different 3rd party platforms seems even worse; I'm sure palms were greased with silver en masse and this is a major negative for players in the long run. That aside, when the game does come to Steam, there is still the question - what "pre order" bonuses will there be? What will the discount/pricing structure be? Will it require a Rockstar Social Club account? Launch an individual patcher? Launch the Rockstar Launcher? If the game doesn't patch/launch "directly" from Steam (or for that matter Epic), and still requires a Rockstar Launcher (or even a single game patcher) to be launched, that would mean that nomatter where you get it its just another "layer" which is a bit unfortunate.

Anyone have info on any of this, particular what requirements are necessary in terms of Rockstar Social Club accounts, a separate patcher, and/or the Rockstar Launcher (even if your key activates on Epic or Steam?)

^ There isn't any mystery to it - buying it through EGS will just launch the R* launcher, same as what will happen on Steam. All roads lead to the R* launcher, only exception will be Stadia. Epic's desperation in giving Take Two a check to keep it off Steam for a month isn't going to translate for them. Tim just likes lighting money on fire.

As for Vulkan that'd be great if it supports it.

The only motivating factor I could see for buying it elsewhere would be discounted key re-sellers like Cdkeys and such. You're more likely to see a discounted key for Epic's store than Rockstar's.

Ah, the garbage dump of gaming websites making a news story out of a guide on NVIDIA's website. I guess it's a little better than making a news story out of a Reddit post.
DSOG is one guy with a wordpress blog that writes like he's still in high school. "2080Ti can't even run..." articles are just click-meat for bitter have-nots. Because there's no standard for "Ultra" settings - its completely relative and arbitrary. Games coming out that require future GPU's to technically 'max out' settings, and then new GPU's coming out that can max those settings until the cycle repeats, is a back-and-forth that's been going on since the advent of GPU's. Apparently this is news to some people.

I plan on playing RDR2 at 4K60 with an OC'd 2080, I'l just tone down the settings with the least visual impact to achieve it, not a big deal. I might be more worried if GTAV hadn't been so amazingly optimized with tons of tweakable settings, and if there hadn't been so many recent games where toning down something visually minor (Shadow Detail for example) means enough FPS savings to never dip below 60FPS.

Not so sure about that, i bought my copy of GTAV from GMG and got a Rockstar key.
