iPhone 11 and 11 Pro / Max

The 6S fingerprint reader was always super clunky to me. The Pixel's implementation was far more smooth.

FaceID is giving me a good impression though. It's helped by how smooth the things relying on it are. For example, the autofill in iOS is better than Android's clunkier implementation. I like being able to tap "Password" on the keyboard area while looking at the screen and it unlocks Bitwarden where I tap the right credential and it's filled in. Android isn't much harder but it uses a popup at the text field that can sometimes not show up or show off screen.

The Apple store also takes the trade ins and they activated mine on TMO the same day.

Yeah but Costco was doing the same trade-in value ($350) in the form of a one-time rebate card, and they had $50 off MSRP. After all was said and done, Costco's $400 off immediately is way better than Apple's or T-Mobile's $350 off over 24 months

Never again in your lifetime will you see Lew never speak a word.:p

Don’t really get it, but I’m guessing he picked out the one he’s keeping?

I got the midnight green, I’m guessing he got the same?

I thought he was just speechless but you might be onto something.

Midnight green really is a nice color. I used to have a similar colored case.

Just got notified my 11 Pro Max will ship soon. A week early so I'm happy about that :)

Battery life still amazing. I haven't been this satisfied with battery life since the LG G2.

I knew academically that iOS was much better at resuming background apps but seeing it in action on a maximum ram iPhone (4GB) is really something. Two intensive games in the background, take some photos of my son, look at Discord, read some Reddit, browse in Safari, go back to the game and it doesn't have to reload.

After watching the above guy spend a ridiculous amount of money in order to chose his phone for a YT video, his channel got linked to mine and I saw the below video. I don't watch YT reviewers, they are all salesmen in some regards, very few actually talk about the hardware and even fewer actually know what/how the hardware does outside of marketing material. Its mostly opinionated junk where they both don't want to piss off possible sponsors and don't want to piss off fanboys for subscribers.

Anyways, yes, the entire scene is toxic. I used to go searching for information on tech as a whole and participate in discussions but now its only toxic.

I've tried to stay away from android vs iPhone fights. People who are willing to fight over it aren't likely to be the kind of people who will see both sides of their argument anyways. At this point both platforms are great and both have their own strengths and weaknesses. Its pretty much a Coke vs Pepsi argument now.

Very much so. The extreme irrational hate everywhere is just exhausting.

Anyway, I've decided to keep the iPhone 11. It looks like I can even use shortcuts to do stuff like "Hey Siri, Google <do something in assistant>" to voice command Google Assistant and "Hey Siri, Google navigate to <place>" to open Google Maps and go. It's actually extremely flexible.

I've already made my peace with the launcher (by exhaustively organizing all the icons) so there's not too much that bothers me enough that the sweet sweet battery life doesn't just make me smile.

You can take some more comfort in knowing that every update (even major IOS version updates) that comes out for the next 5-6 years will be available to on day one. One of the biggest strengths of IOS.

This battery life ... I mean it was good before but jeebus!

Fucking FINALLY!

Not sure why it’s on the 11 only, but not surprised considering it’s Apple.

Iphone 11's arrived today. Nice little phone coming from an XS Max. Screen is not as nice as Max but I only notice it when I have them side by side. Just using the 11 by itself no issue with the screen and it looks very nice. Seems quicker in the things i do but the Max was overkill already.

SwiftKey no longer allows you to move the cursor with a long press of the keyboard since 3D touch was replaced with the haptic touch now used.

Guess I'll have to give the stock iOS keyboard a try as you can move the cursor by long pressing the space bar.

Swiftkey went to garbage on Android long ago (I've been using GBoard). Was it better on iOS?

The iOS 13 keyboard seems competent anyway. The new improvements to the keyboard as well as text manipulation in general make for a much nicer experience. In the past it got in my way more often than not (iPhone 6S) compared to my Android experience.

My iPhone 11 does get a little warmer than I'd expect when I'm playing a game or something but unlike on Android, it doesn't seem to be a symptom of a runaway process that's going to drain my battery flat quickly. That's a nice change of pace for coming over the divide.

Apparently If you go into the GBoard settings and turn off the voice input the space bar will mimic the function of the stock iOS keyboard (from a post on Reddit).

I have just been using the stock iOS keyboard and it’s good enough. I did like the all black theme in SwiftKey but the iOS keyboard has been good enough so I’ll just run with it.

I had SwiftKey and Gboard along with the stock iOS keyboard on my XS Max and found that I used SwiftKey the most.

Removed SwiftKey and Gboard from my 11 and just using the stock iOS keyboard.

That was one of the features I didn't find out about until years into using iPhones. It honestly blew my mind after years of fat fingering things. I remember using SwiftKey when I had a Nexus device and I loved it. Never understood why I didn't try with an iPhone.

Got to hand it to Anandtech, they do very thorough detailed reviews.

And the iPhone 11 Pro Max is probably the phone of the year. Outstanding battery life. Top of the line display. Superb and efficient hardware. Excellent build quality. It really is the best.

Man, if liked iOS this is the no brainer must have smartphone, no questions. I'm so tempted to get one, just such a great phone.

I’ve not regretted my day one purchase of the 11 pro max. Just a well made piece of technology. Software aside (to each their own) the hardware is top notch.

I have not regretted “downgrading” from my XS Max to the regular 11. Battery life is better than what I got on the Max and the camera improved on an already very good camera and the size is about perfect. The screen is the only real significant downgrade but I don’t notice it when I am just using the 11 as everything looks very good on what is spec wise supposed to be a marginal screen.

I’ll admit the only major reason I did not consider the xs or the iPhone 11 was the screen quality. I’ve not used a lcd in years on a phone. I did go play with one at the store. For me, I would rather pay the premium for the screen and the increase battery size and life. But a co worker bought the 11 and I had a chance to mess with it basically outside the Apple store. It’s an impressive phone for sure!

It’s a remarkable change of perspective to start the day with 80% battery and be _disappointed_ when it dips below 40% at the end of a day of heavy use.

iOS seems to have come a long way too. I knew with 13 they took care of a lot of little things I didn’t like but still expect more resistance than I’ve encountered.

I have yet to plug in with less than 30% and I use it about 16 hours a day much of it work related. I don’t know if it’s just the battery or it’s more efficient or both.

So after reading the glowing reviews of the battery on the 11 Pro Max, I went ahead and upgraded my X. Battery life was my one complaint about the X. It was never spectacular, and after 2 years, it was noticeably worse than it was early. All I can say about the new Max is HOLY CRAP. The battery on this thing is a monster. Easily the best I’ve ever had on a phone. I rarely go home after work below 70% or so with moderate use. My X would always be at 25-30% with the same usage. Definitely worth the upgrade for me. I have to applaud Apple for finally stopping the “thinner and lighter than last year” thing and slapping a real battery in their phone for once. The combo of the battery, new chip, and iOS’s efficiency has made a gem.

2 hour road trip with Google Maps and bluetooth music the entire trip drained 20% from 87% to 67%; I deliberately didn’t plug it in to see what would happen. Sun was behind me too so the auto brightness was fairly high.

This is what great battery life looks like.

I personally have switched back and forth for years. Just had a Note 10 plus now a Pro Max 256gb. I decided due to the cost of them these days, I am sticking with one that will last for many years with updates and works seamlessly. And that is the iPhone. I like both devices and they both have their ups and downs, and I am not a fan of one or the other, but with how much they cost these days, one just makes more sense over the other.

I have the same iPhone as you (from work). I'm constantly amazed at its battery ife compared to my 3XL. I still prefer Android as an OS, but this iPhone is a really great piece of hardware.
