Red Dead Redemption 2 Coming to PC November 5th

Why? You still got to use RS launcher. At least buying from RS they get all the money and not loose 30% to Valve. Don't care any more about the game. Love the game on PS4 but I had my fun with it.

Steam refund.

Do you? I have GTAV on Steam and as soon as I got the launcher, it knew I had it, but in order to run the game via the launcher, I'd have to d/l it all over again (not sure why, since it did a search).

Cool. This will give me time to play Call of Jaurez: Gunslinger.

I wouldn't say that. The atmosphere and story were outstanding, but mechanically the gameplay had a LOT of issues.

Sounds like Spec Ops The Line in some ways where the story and theme were pretty good but the gameplay itself sucked. The difference is one took around 10-12 hours, and this looks to take around 70-80 hours.

I'll likely play this sometime but I have a feeling it would be such a disappointment from a time/gameplay perspective. But the theme is very interesting.

I don't remember how long I played RDR2 for, but it wasn't 70-80 hours. Maybe if you grind for all of the perfect pelts and upgrades, but ultimately all that is sort of pointless.

I was, but then kept reading about how long it is. I just don't have time to sit down for 80-90 hours very often (who the hell does?). Plus, it seems like you spend around 20-30 hours walking back and fourth and collecting furs.

I really want to play a game set in the old west, but I'm not sure if I can do the same generic actions that we do in literally every game these days for days on end. I just don't see the appeal. Why not release a separate hunting or fur trading game for those that love that stuff.
From what I heard RDR2 is not just grindy but annoying as well. I can't have both. If a game is grindy I at least need the gameplay to be fun, and not a chore.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it was grindy if you just want to follow the main storyline. It reminds me of GTA V, there's a ton of optional content, but if you only want to follow the main story - it moves at a steady clip.

Youtube is amazing for these kinds of questions. ;)
Yeah, which is a problem these days. Instead of writing a review of a product that allows the reader to skim through to the parts their interested in and get that information too many things go the way of video where there might be a 10-20 minute review on something and you can't just "skip around and skim" because you don't know where in the video is the information you want. I mean if there was a written version of that youtube video I could find out what the game was like in all of about 30 seconds, instead there's 7+ minute video giving a review on it.

That said, I've heard enough good stuff about the game before that this definitely is a purchase for me.

Their written review.

Personally, that's never been an issue for me though, as I never want to only know about one or two aspects of a game and I'm not sure how you would be able to just skim a written review and know within 30 secs what the game is about and what makes it good or bad. Sounds like you would be doing yourself and the game devs a disservice if you make snap decisions like that and blow off a game if you're not hooked within the first 30 secs of reading a review on it too, not to mention that the video gives you a much better idea of how the game plays and looks in motion than any written review could ever convey to you.

The world is amazing to just run around in and explore and experience an old west setting. It should look amazing on a high end PC.

This is certainly true - the world building is truly something special. I just wish it didn't play so kludgy.

I started playing RDR2 after just finishing Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War and it felt downright oppressive to actually "play" in comparison. With that said, I may still purchase it on PC just for the modding scene.

To those wondering, the "kludgy play" is common to both RDR games......you go in thinking the game will "feel" like Grand Theft Auto V does......but it doesn't, your character controls like he's in Gears of War. Lots of detailed animations make your guy respond as if he's about 400lbs compared to most other third person gameplay.......its sort of hard to describe until you play it and go "oh, oh I get it....its like laggy due to the detailed animations".

Also....you gotta enjoy the Western element. I bought it, it never hooked me...what kept me wanting to play it again however is the A+++ satire/humor/writing that Rockstar puts intto their games, you're basically playing a more humorous version of Deadwood/Hateful 8 in this one.

It's not just the deliberate movement. The controls really do just suck. The same button does multiple things, poorly, and the context of when isn't always obvious or intuitive. You end up shooting someone when all you were trying to do was talk to them but the camera angle or something shifted half a degree and now instead of polite neighbor you are instant mass murderer being hunted by every cop in the county.

I really hate the controls, haven't played but a few hours worth on my launch day ps4 version. Just feels so slow and clunky, i want to run dammit.

Oh yeah, there's that too.....had that happen on a random encounter on the road, I wanted to intervene in some robbery going down, wound up "Well that escalated quickly" wondering WTH just happened as shots were fired, then suddenly I'm being told to stop the witness and then there was a posse out to get me. Seriously I was laughing....just like real life..."yeah I could help but......fuck that, just keep driving, you saw nothing". :)

I'm the same as many of you, I put a few hours in, realized it was pretty game.....I think I wound up with a second horse....brought a wagon into town, then wound up doing one of those GTAV style "take cover and use auto aim to kill 35 guys which you would never be able to do with THESE controls without cover and auto-aim" and kinda moved on to other games.

Like GTAV the only way to get the most out of this game is to play it nearly exclusively so you can remember the 38 button commands and "rules of the world"....don't pull your gun, ever, or else....don't nudge someone with your horse, or else.....do I buy this or find it in the wild, etc...and like many Rockstar games there's a ton of crap you'll never see/experience unless you study up online...."oh you didn't go find the magic bear medallion in the cave to give you 10 times the gold? Oh now you won't be able to do these cool things in the endgame, gotta start over"*.

*completely made-up dumb shit but indicative of the kind of rules Rockstar puts in their games, like when you can't afford anything at the end of GTAV because you didn't have the sense to read the guides on how to invest online in the game after assassination missions, etc....

*But also worth noting, this game is stupid pretty........

That is too bad, Gears 4/5 has some of the worst movement and camera angles of any game in the past 12-15 years. Want to sprint? Good, we'll forcefully point the camera at the ground and make your character shoot out to the left or right at random. Dumbest idea ever.

Nailed it. When I read the nitpicks about this game from people that played the console version, or never played RDR, or complain that your character doesn't move as quickly as in Bloodborne, I just SMH because these people are missing the forest.

Rockstar writing is 'nuther level. And their GTA5 PC port was a masterpiece as far as ports go. Practically flawless.

I played A few hours of the PS4 Pro version of RDR2, and stopped because I wanted to wait to enjoy it in full glory on a high end gaming PC. Not much longer now.

This is a game that will take you on an adventure.

I still feel like I must point out that none of that excuses the tedious gameplay, janky movement and unnecessary grind elements.

I think rockstar's writing is unbearably miserable. It's not bad, it just doesn't give any satisfaction. It's like reading a book that only has downs and zero ups. This is typical of all their recent games, including GTA:SA, IV,V, Max Payne3. They were all really disappointing on a story level, neither gave any sense of accomplishment or victory. And therefore I hated the guts of all of them, not the gameplay, but the stories and how they unfolded. (Well actually MP3 was flawed on a gameplay level as well)

Subjective. You're also basing that on the console version. Let's wait and see if the PC version necessarily plays exactly the same or will have adjustments. The grinding also isn't really necessary to complete the main story. Some people enjoy the hunting and fishing stuff without feeling like it's a grind.

RDR1 was great, lets see how RDR2 is. I wasn't gonna try it on console but PC is another story.

I don't see it looking significantly better on PC still (without mods at least), as it easily holds its own on PS4 Pro/Xbone X against comparable modern PC games already in terms of IQ, but I would definitely welcome 60+ FPS and keyboard/mouse support if I were to play through it again.

The PC version of GTA V was and still is an example of a near-perfect port. I don't doubt the equally high-profile RDR 2 will receive the same effort.

Never played it, but I can't help but think it was the show Westworld in a video game.

1 year was just too long for me this time. All the excitement and desire I had to play the game when it launched on console is gone now.

I would pick it up for $20 but if it's anything like GTA V it will be at or near full price for ages.

I know I should be excited, but I'm not, why is that?

Maybe you're still waiting for a proper sequel to Outlaws like me?

I doubt many of the issues are easily fixable, regardless of platform, but we'll see. And I'm sure those people exist, but I've never once come across one of them.

It's a game that deserves to be played through once. Not sure it was worth the $60+ that I paid for it, though. After I finished the game I never touched it again.

I've been steadily ignoring this game until it came to PC. Will the Steam version include some sort of online/posse thing beyond the single player? May need to form up a group of coworkers and hunt down those from accounting.

If it's anything like the console version of online, it will be like GTA V where all of the prices on everything are jacked way up, and microtransactions galore.
