Early next year I'll need to install 19 monitors that will be run at 4k 60hz. The current cables for them are 25'. I have a little slack, but don't think I can get down to 15', so I'll need to stick with 25'.

I understand that 4k/60hz is hard to keep past 15'. I need it to be DisplayPort, as that's all the monitor and video card will run those specs at. Will an active cable get me what I need? And if so, will running it through a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter cause any problem if the adapter isn't active but the cable is?

You'll need a repeater/extender at that length, which converts it to either optical or HDBaseT in between the connection points. Unfortunately those are not cheap and you need to buy the cables separately.

HDMI is going to be a lot cheaper. HDMI 2.0 can do 4K 60hz generally, that length I dunno.

It would probably be a lot cheaper to go with HDMI and a booster for it. I'd imagine that a DisplayPort booster would be a lot more expensive than the HDMI booster.

Is there not an option to mount the system closer?

HDMI has the same length guidelines as DisplayPort. It's a physical limitation of the wire. The HDMI Foundation only guarantees 4K/60 up to 3 metres with High Speed cables, same with DisplayPort 1.2a and 1.4.

Good to know!

Love [H] for tidbits like this.

No, we just remodeled and the computers are a little closer than before, but not much. I think I could get away with about 18 feet, but don't think 15 would do it. I'd have to try it I guess. It would be a tight run.
