I want something new... 5700xt or 1080ti?

$329 is a sweet deal, especially with the BIOS mod.

But it would be more or less a sidegrade from a GTX 1080.

Might still be fun to swap it out and see what you think.

I don't plan to pull the 1080 - I do some cuda accelerated stuff on that system so wouldn't make sense. But I have enough parts lying around to put another system together to play with, including a 3700x. Just haven't flashed the b350 board to support the chip yet - have to pull a chip out of another system temporarily to do it.

Funny thing is, the decidedly mid range system it'd end up being will probably outperform what was a one step below absolute top of the line hedt system of 2 years ago in most stuff.

2080 RTX Super for ray tracing

1080ti is cheap right now but it's nothing new really.

I did the exact thing you are considering.
I bought a 5700XT simply because I hadn't had anything AMD since the 290X.
It's really quite a good GPU.
Does EyeFinity well. Can run MetroExodus 5760 x 1200 at 50-60 FPS.
I plan to use the 5700XT until AMD releases their "Big Navi" if they do. Then I'll sell this GPU.

I also have two GTX 1080 Ti cards. They provide just a little better FPS at the same resolution. Metro is only a one card game, so
no help from SLi which is really too bad. I bet it would look fantastic on Extreme in surround, but oh well SLi seems DOA.

relevant specs:
2700x
X470 mobo
2 x 3x4 nvme ssd’s
32 go 3200 b die 2 x 16
1440p 144hz freesync monitor

I can get a 5700xt brand new for 300. Xfx brand blower style.

And then sell the evga 1080ti? I’m bored. Just want something new to play with.

You know, I am not sure about the 5700XT, but I recently made a change from the 1080TI to the 2070 Super. I did it out of boredom and felt like a change. Considered the 5700XT for a while, but, I didn't feel it offered anything different.

I also considered the same thing you did, the resale value of the 1080Ti. I think when the next generation of cards come out the 1080Ti value will fall a lot more than the current generation of cards.

So I switched from an EVGA 1080Ti to an EVGA 2070 Super. I was expecting it to be roughly the same, but, I was surprised how good of card the 2070S is. It's a small but definite upgrade that's especially noticeable in VR.

It also satisfied my curiosity about Ray Tracing. I wanted to try it out without spending too much money. Now, I think it's a bit "meh" to be honest, but, I am glad I got the chance to use it.

Overall I am very happy with the change and it was a positive experience for me.

So that's the change I am recommending for you. Get the 2070 Super. It will scratch the upgrade itch without spending too much money.

I would second a 2070S suggested by Reaper. It is closer to a 1080Ti sidegrade for you but with I'm hoping that it will be enough to enable at least some RTX reflections and diffused illumination for Cyberpunk since those neon reflections are a big part of that aesthetic. I feel that all those shinies that were basically useless in Battlefield V might actually add something here.

TBH, I haven't been as hyped for a game in a very long time and thats what tipped me over the edge to choose a $420 EVGA XC Ultra 2070S over a $330 Gigabyte 3-fan 5700XT during that eBay sale. Bought both but flipped the 5700XT for $400.

I also switch video cards pretty frequently so I totally get your urge to get a different card even though the 1080Ti is already better than the 5700XT. My last few have been 1070-->1080-->1080ti-->570-->580-->2060-->2070S. Made money on all of these cards except the 2060 by buying on sale.

I already have a RX 5700 laying on a shelve beside me .. as why I said the cpu is the best place to gain speed in your case and it does not have to be a 3700x as I have one of my 3600 running 4.2Ghz all cores at 1.352v using MSI Gaming Boost and it's a different animal with all cores boosted .

DAMN, how did you get the 2070S for $420? Incredible deal. I got the 5700 XT Pulse for ~$380, pretty happy with that. Especially after I flipped my 480 GTR and 1070 during the mining craze for huge return.

So I checked out the 2070s. After I sold the 1080ti, it’d be a bit more cash for not a huge increase in performance. I guess it will be 1080ti until a new round of cards.

10% eBay Bucks, 5% discover card on Paypal, 5% Samsung Pay cash back. +$20 mail in rebate from Newegg/EVGA. So if you count eBay bucks as cash it was ($550*0.8-20). A basic 2070S could be had for $400 or less but I felt the extra $20 or so was worth it for the better model. Some lucky people even had an additional 10% off coupon code TEN4FALL and could have gotten it as low as $365. Just gotta wait for all the random eBay promos to line up.

Note: when you buy from Newegg on eBay you can still do the rebates/have the official receipt for warranty purposes rather than eBay one so you won't run in to any problems with "auction sites" as an excuse. Just take the order number off the shipping label and you can look up the Newegg reciept/invoice on their website.

Ah, yes. I forgot about that. I did do the Discover 5%. I wasn't lucky enough to get the TEN4FALL though. So I really was at ~$350 for the 5700XT.

In hindsight, I should have gone the 2070S but oh well.

I did exactly that, the 2070s is much better than the paper specs suggest. For me, it was a worthwhile upgrade which completely surprised me considering how close they are in performance. Get the 2070s, you will enjoy it a lot more than getting another 1080Ti.

Coming off a GTX 1070, to a Sapphire Pulse Radeon 5700XT. If I had to do it all over again, I'd throw the extra money away and get that AIO Water Cooled EVGA 2070S. Didn't realize how much I enjoyed a silent PC.

Can live with it undervolted and see about nVidia's next big thing. Or even Big NAVI.

Thought that pulse 5700xt is quite. Almost bought it but got a 2060 super at very cheap price.
