Red Dead Redemption 2

It won't be a repeat of gtav. The online aspect failed on consoles. It will sell tho cause the single player is so amazing.

I really don't know anything about RDR Online, I don't pay for Xbox Live so I can't utilize it. Is it still a beta or is it fully out yet? Is there something fundamentally wrong with it... or does the pace and setting just not work like it did for GTA? Truthfully, RDR Online is one of the things I'd want to buy it on PC for... if I gotta drop $60 either way I'd rather it go towards a copy of the game on PC than on Xbox Live (that would only be used for this game anyway).

You are probably right about me being the minority, but as far as the quality of the game, I have to complete disagree. The story was fantastic and graphically yes, great. But mechanically the game had a LOT of problems that you can see pointed out in countless reviews. To be honest, if the game's atmosphere and story wasn't so good, this game would be shit. As a GAME it kind of is shit, but as an overall experience it warrants consideration.

I certainly have no desire to buy it on PC, or really even replay it on PS4.

The highlights for me, beyond the story and the visuals are just the environment. I'm a sucker for games that feel authentic, it's one of the reasons Kingdom Come became one of my favorite games of all time despite the fact that it's limited in scope and can be pretty clunky compared to other similar RPGs. It just feels right, and so does RDR2. There are aspects about the game that annoy me for sure, but as a complete package it's really fun to just exist in that world for a little bit. And my biggest gripe with it would be the controls, particularly shooting, and that'll be fixed by trading a controller for a kb+m anyway.

Haven't played it as I don't have a console aside from a Switch, but that is what it seemed like to me. I'd interested in the story and setting but it seems pretty long winded with a lot of fairly mundane things that you have to do in the game from a gameplay standpoint.

One of the biggest weakpoints for RDR2 is the horrible UI and cumbersome inventory management. They'll have to change elements of that for the PC. At the very least KB/M users should be able to eliminate some of the ridiculous overlap between unrelated functions. Hopefully some of that will help pad users, too.
Making the game's UI and control scheme better would go a long way toward making it decent. Toss in more quick travel options and it might actually be fun to play.

Yeah...I mean, they should, but I kinda doubt they will.

Fast Travel was definitely a really poor system in this game and contributed to a lot of wasted time.

If it were me, get rid of the different pelt "qualities" that have no real reason to exist other than to piss off the player. Maybe make the advanced upgrades more easily available earlier on in the game, rather than requiring massive amounts of grinding or just waiting until endgame to buy it all with money.

Even beyond the different pelts...was there really a need for different types of food? You can't tell what you're picking up until you already do and they all work the same way. Part of the problem with the inventory system is that it's cavernous and filled with 40 different canned vegetables, tonics, or types of meat that do the same thing. They could have trimmed all of that down and made it work closer to GTA5 if they wanted. There are basically 5 item types and they didn't need to differentiate any more than that.

Sounds tedious. The theme and setting looks good and I'd like a good action adventure game set in the old west. But too many games have embraced the concept of tedium. Do we really need to manage an inventory or worthless crap in every single game? It was okay when it didn't take much time and was easy enough, for example in Far Cry 3 where you had to get some basics items to upgrade gear and sell. I'll still plan on playing this, but I think if I am going to sink 50-60 hours into a game I may look into Cyberpunk instead.

It felt like Rockstar wasn't sure if they wanted to make another wild west GTA (like the original) or full-on RPG like Fallout. Instead we got a little of both and the two elements hurt one another.
The game world is probably second to none and the actors really did a good job. It has some of the best audio I've ever heard and if you overlook the 30fps framerate it's up there with the best looking games around. It's a little like going to Disney World with shackles on. It's still fun, but it's hard not to dwell on your dilemma.

You want to make the Rockstar Launcher succeed? Make the PC version of RDR2 exclusive to it.

It does seem a little more likely with the new launcher since it shows that Rockstar is paying some attention to PC going forward, especially since they don't really have enough games to justify a full fledged store at this point.

Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives on PC next month

Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a PC version and it launches next month, on November 5th...it will be available via Rockstar's own PC launcher, Epic Games store, Greenman Gaming, the Humble Store, GameStop and additional digital retailers...there'll be a Google Stadia version, also...what about Steam? It will launch on Steam too - but not until December

Pre-purchase the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 from the Rockstar launcher and you'll get some bonuses: the snazzy War Horse mount, a treasure map, and a cash bonus for Story Mode, plus 50 Gold Bars for Red Dead Online...you'll also get to pick two free games from the following list: GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas, Bully, LA Noire and Max Payne 3

I'll definitely double-dip RDR2 and play through it on PC. Gonna be awesome.

LIkewise, it's an outstanding game. I really want to do a complete first person playthrough with a mouse and keyboard.

Not gonna bother, the game had way too many issues outside of just having to use a controller. If they fix some of that stuff on PC, I might consider it.

Steam needs to reduced that 30% cut. They're losing access to all the big titles.

Are they? Or is it because others are paying them? A month ain’t nothing. Also, who pays full price these days? I can wait for a sale at this point.

That sucks, but if they nail down the KB/M controls I'll be happy. If I have to use a controller it's going to be a shit show.

LOL at thinking Take-two or Rockstar Games need "payment" from anyone. Maybe you should google their net worth. Steam needs to lower their cut (at least a little bit).

Steam will reduce the 30% cut with enough sales, and most likely this game will have the sales where Rockstar gets the 80/20 split. And that doesn't even count the other storefronts that will sell steam keys and valve gets 0 cut on it.
I'd imagine they are withholding the first month to try to force as many people as possible to use their launcher.

Steam drops to 25% after the first million then 20% after 5 million. Overall result = 20% + 3 million. Of course rockstar want people on their launcher. It means millions in additional revenue for them. This is going to become the new normal. People that want steam are going to have to pay for it by waiting.

Im surprised its only one month though, they must have wanted them steam sales :) If i do buy it, it'll probably be on Rockstar launcher just to avoid launching 2 clients.

Biggest game disappointment of 2018. But good its finally on PC for the fanboys.

as a PC guy I've never played this series but it sounds like a game more about the overall experience and atmosphere of the Old West versus constant action and combat...I think I would enjoy it...Deadwood The Game

plus I want to see what all the hype is about...maybe not playing the first game will be a good thing as I won't have anything to compare it to...will go into RDR2 with a clean slate

It'll be interesting to see how new players feel about it...and what Rockstar does with the UI for PC players. I found the game needlessly cumbersome throughout. It has a fantastic living/breathing world but is hampered by clumsy game IMO. Graphically it was pretty amazing, though. Assuming it performs anything like GTA5, it should be a candidate for best looking game out there.
I can't see myself playing it again without a total UI overhaul.

I have to largely agree with you here.

If the vaseline softness of the graphics is fixed and the bizarre input lag past the usual 30fps on the consoles is also remedied (which it should be on the PC) that would go a long way for me on gameplay.

The UI needs serious attention. I am keeping an eye on this.

Other storefronts will not be distributing Steam keys for RDR2. Even GTA V didn't have Steam keys up for sale. If you bought the game at GMG, for example, you got a key for Rockstars launcher. In this specific example, the "no Steam cut from third party" doesn't apply. Every digital storefront (GMG, Humble, etc) will be selling keys for Rockstars launcher. The only third party at launch will be EGS, and it's not hard to understand why they would favor them over Steam, even without any EGS bribes. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised we only have to wait a month to get in on Steam. That's a short enough window that the Steam die-hards will wait without complaining. A six month window, and they would get more people who are willing to just buy it, especially with a non-EGS option.

I've read elsewhere, that regardless of where you buy it, you still need the Rockstar Launcher to run it.

So waiting for Steam accomplishes what?

Some people have a raging hard on for Steam that is unwavering. 10 years ago, when pretty much everyone's digital PC library would have been exclusively on Steam, that made sense. Now days, my game libraries are so fragmented that there are literally zero fucks given as to where I have to buy a game. It doesn't even register as a concern.

I'll probably buy this on EGS, just because I can.

Auto updates and having it natively available on my steam game list.
Frankly I just don't bother loading up most other launchers, but steam is always open.

Also, honestly, I'm likely gonna wait till a steam sale to buy it anyway. So it does nothing for me to not buy it on my preferred platform.

Definitely won't buy it on epic, maybe straight from Rockstar or steam sale later on. Do to the better mod support. But seems like most people are disappointed with this game so I dunno.

You will have to use their launcher regardless. Rockstar has forced people to use their services since GTA4's PC release.

What issues? GTA V is still one of the most polished and immersive open world games I have played to date.

My biggest hope with this game is that they've improved the online aspects compared to GTAV, from a mostly technical standpoint. For me the two biggest issues with GTAOnline were the networking problems resulting in long load times (stuck in the clouds) and of course the ease with which modders could ruin a lobby. Despite those problems I still logged many hours in GTAOnline and built quite a friends list on Rockstar Social Club.

I bought this on xbox knowing full well that I would rebuy again on PC so I could enjoy the online. I wasn't patient enough to wait for the PC release, and I won't be patient enough to wait for the Steam release either. I'll buy this straight from Rockstar.

I love the smell of vindication in the morning! How many people argued with me that it would never get released on PC because.....reasons. Yeah, up to 20 million copies of GTA V sold on steam alone was reason enough for Rockstar to port this game.

vindication?...you post every rumor from DSO Gaming as a PC gaming thread...the law of averages eventually catches up...
