I need a video card suggestion please

Hello all,
I have a GTX 760 and this thing sucks electric. I can see it in the monthly bill when I use it for that month and when I don't. It sucks.

I play at 1080p and want an electric efficient card. I play CSGO now and I'll be playing the new COD.

I want to keep it below 220 ish.

It's about electricity here. As long as I can pull 60 plus FPS I'm fine at 1080p.
 
GTX 970 (145W draw according to official specs) cards can be picked up quite cheap nowadays & they still have some good performance at 1080p (may have to scale down some details but still look good as well as smooth). The one that is in my other system runs more efficient than my RTX2070 (175W draw according to official specs) does according to my Smart Meter.
 
i think you would have to game 24/7 to see 10 dollars a month difference on the bill?
 
For all we know the rest of his system may not even be suitable for a more powerful modern card.

Not even $10. I find it ridiculous that he said their is a substantial different in your monthly electrical bill.

Pretty much. And even then you'd be pushing that $10 number. Hard to say what the OP is after though as he didn't say how much higher he believes his electricity bill is compared to when he doesn't use the card. If it is more than $3-5 though (probably more like $1-2), it's almost certain it is something other than the video card causing issues.

Probably the fact maybe it getting cooler now and he hasn't ran his ac the past month?

The assumptions here are glorious. You could just ask him where he lives.

On islands/less developed portions of the world, electricity is several times more expensive than it is in the contentential us.

For example, in the US, AK pays 50% higher rate than the rest of the country, and Hawaii pays over twice the average. Expect rates in other countries to be up to twice the US's most expensive (because they have no Rural Electrification Act to help absorb the build costs).

In addition, if you live somewhere hot, you have the vampire power than you now have to AC out of your house.

I don't care where he lives or what he pays for electricity as the actual difference in going with a card that uses even 50 watts less isn't going to make a measurable difference in an electricity bill a month.

Well since you know so much about the subject. What kind of a money difference would a hundred watts times 8 hours a day for each month add up to in most expensive area on earth? Im just honestly curious?

760 is only 175W. It’s not a small amount of power but not crazy either. At 4 hours a day and 0.12 cents a kWh that’s only $0.08 USD a day....

I second the 1650 or 1660. But don't forget the added power draw outputs more heat meaning for some more power to run the AC.
It depends on were OP lives. Cutting 175w down to 75w in AZ or the middle east would save a lot. Not so much in Siberia or Alaska
 
I'm in Florida and its real hot and has been. Our electric bill ran $250 up from 200. I realize the AC is running more but I have also starting using my PC again for gaming.

I used to live by myself and had a high electric bill and gamed all of the time. Lived by myself and when I was gone nothing was running except the hot water heater and I somehow still managed to have a 70-100$ bill.

For me, someone who just games a little bit now days I might be better with the 1650, maybe find an OC version. We'll see.

The fan on my current VC ramps up and spins like a damn hair dryer too. I'm sick of that.
 
Well you can do the simple math and see that your video card contributes VERY little to that power bill. Any card that's an upgrade would still be using within around 50 Watts or so of what you already use so you're talking about something that is nearly meaningless in the whole scheme of things.

Yeah - a new card can definitely help with noise, but it is simple math that you won’t affect your bill much by buying a new card.

Your $70-100 bill, I’d bet at least a third is distribution fees. Even if I used no electricity my bill would still be $40.

Yeah, tell us the rest of the pieces of the puzzle: are you still using a CRT to game on, and what re the rest of the specs of your PC?

Your forgetting the cost of running the AC. Add both up and it could be a good amount in Florida

It takes about 25-50 watts (depending on outside temp) to move the additonal 50 watts of the 760. It’s not a lot. You’re under a dime a day if 4 hours or less of playing. Probably a nickle even.
 
Ignoring the OP's silly premise, what is the most efficient 1080p GPU with the highest fps?
I am guessing GTX1060 6GB. Others?

Gtx 1660ti.. 120W yet still 30% - 40% better performance than gtx 1060 6gb at the same 120W.

Yaah.. give us the rest of the system specs OP.

Also, what type of lightbulbs are you using in your house? If incandescent or even fluorescent, you can reduce your electricity usage a good amount by switching over to LED.

If incandescent, you can drop around 50 watts or more just by replacing a single bulb.. assuming you are using 60 watt bulbs.

the other thing is, newer cards are going to use WAAAAY less power doing the same amount of work as you current card.

The wattage of the card is not going to be anywhere near your current card, especially if you limit a new card to 60fps.
 
760 causing you crazy power draw on CS:GO?

Sounds like you need to turn on vsync or enable a frame-limiter or something. Are you sitting at 4000fps at the menu or something?
 
Sounds your electric problems comes from somewhere else, that 760 shouldn't be doing that suck on electricity. As others said here, for good performance with low power, I'd go with a 1660ti. Cheers!
 
760 consumes around 160w power. If its too much for you, then Your choice should be GTX 1660, which consumes around 120w power and good upgrade over 760 as well.
