iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11s? (est Sep 10th reveal)

Compared to previous USB charging cables I’d agree. But I don’t see how the Lightning connector is any easier to use than USB-C.

For iPhones the port is mainly used for charging unlike the MacBooks and now iPad Pros (which are trying to be marketed against laptops) where data transfer speeds are more important. I could honestly see them sticking to the Lightning Port for another generation or two.
They make money essentially from staying with lightning. Especially on phones where they can easily quick charge through it. I'd like to see USB c also, but since I already have a handful of lightning cables, and some with USB C to lightning (for quick charging) I am alright with things the way they are. Ultimately people probably arent going to decide against a phone because of the connector.

Won’t happen. Electrically it’s some form of USB 3.1 now anyways. It’ll never go usb c for the physical connector.
Is that actually used anymore? AFAIK, their cables are all still 2.0, and the one device that actually had the USB 3.0 host capability is now exclusively using USB-C anyways.

Also, for the person who mentioned licensing: I don't know if it's true anymore, but Apple Macbooks typically rejected any non-approved USB-C dongles (especially for video output). Now maybe it's different now, or maybe early non-Apple dongles were junk, but Apple could still just block non-approved devices.

Lightning is electrically some form of USB 3.0+ now, I believe with the iPhone 11.

I'll know for sure tomorrow when I do a USB transfer.

I'm guessing usb-c will come the next time when the design of the phone is different from the iPhone X.

I paid $600 cash for my brand new iPhone XS Max in March of this year.

Apple offers me 600 trade in value for it towards the iPhone 11 max pro.

So in the end a iPhone 11 max pro for 499. Now had I paid full price for the xs max, this wouldn’t be a good deal. But essentially in my case I’m paying 500 for a phone that I know will retain its value.

I have never had an issue reselling a iPhone if it was well taken care of.

....im confused arent you still paying $1099?
You paid 600 cash for an XS, which apple will take as trade in, and you add in $499?

I'm guessing usb-c will come the next time when the design of the phone is different from the iPhone X.
People have been guessing USB-C and a redesign/smaller notch will be coming with the 2018 iPhones, the 2019 iPhones and now the 2020 iPhones.

Jonathon Morrison (YT tech reviewer) made a good point in his 11 Pro review that the switch to USB-C will be seen as a good thing by many and also a bad thing by others. The nerdy tech people will see it as “finally” one less cable to carry around while many of the average Joes that don’t really have many or any USB-C devices will see it as Apple just trying to force people in buying new cables again.

I feel like every year people have this laundry list of features that they expect the next iPhone to have. Then when only a few of those features make it people are disappointed since it didn’t meet the artificial hype they built up. I’m guilty of this to an extent as well.

Yea, he did pay $1100 but he got an XS for "free" for 6 months plus he will gain a few hundred more in the extra resale value of the 11. Still a worthwhile deal.

I'm going to be switching back to an iPhone from a Pixel 3. Pixel 3 was great at first, but have started running into a host of issues. Phone seems to overheat easily. That in turn causes performance to degrade terribly. Wife's phone constantly has troubles connecting to US Cellular network despite Sprint and T-Mobile being trash near me (using google fi). Wireless charging seems to just stop working at times. And worst of all, trying to get Google to address any of these issues if ridiculous and requires hours of phone calls to fi support.

....im confused arent you still paying $1099?
You paid 600 cash for an XS, which apple will take as trade in, and you add in $499?
For the two phones retail, I would have paid about 2200.

I ended up paying 600 for the XS, and 499 for the IPhone 11 pro max.

So however you slice the bread, I paid half of retail for both of the phones combined. For an apple product, I consider that a good deal. Both phones were sealed new.

I got mine today. I don't know what I expected but its like a small revision over my XS Max. Very small. Its a work phone and I didn't have to pay for it so I can bitch too much lol.

Using the iPhone 11 right now. I’m surprised that that default Apple keyboard is swiping capable. No more need for Google Keyboard. Yeah, one less google product... still have like dozens though...

my beef with the iPhone 11 pro it's the same old same old nothing new. The same exact design 3 years in a row and then IOS which is freaking like 10 years outdated same old fucking stale boring operating system.

Blows my mind iPhone still sells by the tens of millions.

I guess it's no different than the big Mac at McDonald's over a billion served it's a shitty hamburger but people keep buying them.

That's one thing I've always liked about the Nexus and Pixel phones each year it's a brand new design you don't know what you're going to get it'll be something different. But stock vanilla Android is always the best.

These days when I see Zorachus has posted in an Apple related thread I can more or less predict that it will be on one of three topics. So, here we go for the 20 billionth time.

Here's the thing. People who use iPhone or phones in general don't want the phone to blow our minds from a software perspective. We want it to do one thing: work. Wow. Magical concept. If every time iOS updated it changed a bunch of paradigms, that would only get in the way of doing this thing called work.
You're also semi-hypocritical. We do not, and you do not, have the expectation that an OS on a PC would be radically different every time we use it. And in fact when that has happened people bitched and complained. If I took a poll about how many people think that Windows 7 is the best iteration of Windows and consequently that Windows 8 is the worst, and 10 also isn't fantastic in comparison with precious Windows 7 we'd break the forum. Nor do we expect that every major service update is going to change how every item functions in an operating system. I also don't have this expectation with macOS releases. I expect them to operate largely the same from a UI and UX perspective.
You only want this stuff to change on a phone because to you phones are toys.

Frankly most of us are happy with small incremental improvements that are clear improvements versus having large radical changes that have questionable usefulness. People complained for years about updating the notification system or widgets. And for the most part those things are done. Everything works and it's where it's supposed to be. You don't like that implementation. Great. That's why you're on Android. Stay there and stay out of these threads because you're always going to be disappointed and you're always going to annoy the shit out of everyone else. This is probably the most sane response you're going to get after repeating the same garbage ad nasuem. This isn't even the first time you complained about iOS IN THIS THREAD. This is the fourth time. Seriously. You're a broken record. We all know your opinion. Feel free to shock us some day with a different one.

I guess it's no different than the big Mac at McDonald's over a billion served it's a shitty hamburger but people keep buying them.
Yes, because luxury goods and mass market fast food is comparable in terms of market placement and position, purpose, and cost. /s

They really aren't. Android is just as iterative. But if feeling that way helps you sleep at night, great.

The thing is I do sort of respect Apple, in that they design fantastic hardware and build a beautiful device, no question hands down, great job Apple.

My huge beef has always been with iOS. When they revise it it seems to take years to get decent revisions at a turtle's pace. I'm not saying or wanting them to copy Android I think they could do it even better. But God damn they just seem so slow on revising or updating their operating system.

I won't even waste your time with the laundry list of things iOS should already have at this point, which I thought would have been incorporated years ago and still today so many features missing or revisions desperately needed that somehow are left untouched.

But hey, different strokes for different folks.

The battery life on the new 11 Pro's are amazing and that's super cool, and the camera is finally getting close to Pixel quality, which is also great to see. I get very tempted to pick one up.

you can even hear it in the YouTube tech reviewers doing the 11 Pro, they all say great hardware great camera blah blah blah, but then they almost all laugh and shrug their shoulders at yep iOS same old boring operating system from a decade ago, and they all roll their eyes, still far behind.

More or less this. I get jealous sometimes with all the new tech coming out but then I remember using Android and that most of the time those new features are half baked. I can't even list all the stuff that Samsung releases in their phone that never gets used because its janky and unpolished. On the flip side though, I appreciate that at least its there for people to try out for themselves. Android tends to have a lot of forward thinking stuff that has *'s. Take for instance an in screen fingerprint scanner. My friends S10 has one and loves it.. but he can't use a glass screen protector on it because it wont scan his finger prints. Its stuff like that. Apple improves little by little on a platform that its users already really likes. No need to re-invent the wheel when people want quality and you are already providing that quality.

Literally none of the plethora of reviews for the iPhone 11 that I’ve watched expressed what you are saying they did. Everyone knows what to expect with iOS. People are content with it and many even prefer how simple it is.

We get that you hate it, just move on and stop posting how iOS hasn’t fundamentally changed and that it isn’t for you. Because your posts, much like iOS, are the same thing over and over again in this thread.

k.

This is a huge load of bullshit. iOS 1 is clearly nothing like iOS 13. If you're going to point at iOS' "grid of icons" and say that because that exists therefore all the versions of iOS are the same, then you also had better say that Windows 3.1 is exactly the same as Windows 10 and shit in every Windows thread the exact same way you do to iOS. But you aren't balanced. Something I just pointed out above which you magically ignored.
You can only have this opinion if you want to ignore a massive list of things that have changed. 13 versions, 13 years, all of the changes to just the UI and UX that have changed is innumerable.

But hey, different strokes for different folks.
That isn't even close to how you feel. As you now have shit in this thread 5 times with the exact same garbage.

The battery life on the new 11 Pro's are amazing and that's super cool, and the camera is finally getting close to Pixel quality, which is also great to see. I get very tempted to pick one up.
Better than Pixel quality. And Pixel wasn't even the top dog across the board. It's more of your bias showing.
Don't pick one up. You'll buy it and sell it again in a month and bitch across the entire forum about it. Just don't bother.

you can even hear it in the YouTube tech reviewers doing the 11 Pro, they all say great hardware great camera blah blah blah, but then they almost all laugh and shrug their shoulders at yep iOS same old boring operating system from a decade ago, and they all roll their eyes, still far behind.
Perhaps any of them with an Android bias "laugh and shrug their shoulders". So far I haven't seen any. And I've watched a fair amount of tech reviews. MKBHD a notorious Android fan even as an example didn't "laugh" or "shrug his shoulders" at iOS 13.

You must have watched a different video than me, because Marques clearly shows his disdain for iOS13 still. He agrees like me, the hardware is top notch and camera excellent too, but not the OS.

And LOL that you get so upset on my criticisms of the iPhone. Why do you get so upset or care?

I don't give two shits if someone bags all over the Pixel in one of the Pixel 4 threads. People can say the Pixel 4 XL is the shittiest worst phone in history. Okay cool, I respect their rant against it and welcome it. I rather that, than just jizzing all over it like it's the second coming.

No, he doesn’t. I’ve watched the review already and also came out not thinking he disliked iOS in this video. You’re just pulling made up shit out of your ass to make it seem like everyone shares your opinion.

You’ve been regurgitating the same argument for years now. We get it, your an Android fanboy that enjoys trying to bash Apple. You literally complained about iOS 2 years ago in a separate thread specifically about it. We’re not upset about your criticism, we’re just annoyed that you literally post the exact same shit over and over again (5+ times in this thread alone). It’s like a horrible comedian who only has one bit that no one wants to hear anymore.

LOL at you guys wasting your time to find my old posts. Haha that's awesome.

Maybe it's because iOS hasn't changed much at all in all these years.

okay I'll watch the entire video again and post the specific time stamps were Marques clearly rolls his eyes or shrugs at how it's the same old, same old, operating system.

And I won't get all butt hurt if you go in the Pixel thread and trash on it, criticism is good, especially in this case, when it's well warranted. But whatever... you guys just don't get it.

And no vanilla stock Android isn't the best operating system, because there is no "best" OS, it doesn't exist. I think my Pixel 3 XL is mediocre it's not a great phone.

Finding that thread took all of 30 seconds. Doesn’t take long when almost all your posts are in this sub forum and a simple keyword search of iOS brings up a plethora of your regurgitated argument.

You won’t get butt hurt because we don’t go out of our way to go shit post over and over again with the same garbage argument in other phone threads.

And LOL you’re talking about wasting time yet you’re going to dissect MKBHD’s video for eye rolls and shrugs to try and prove your non-existent point.

LOL at the iSheep here.

Used to think it was a myth, but I guess not.

You'll never see me defend the Pixel like it's God's own creation, because it's just a gadget an appliance no different than your refrigerator or washing machine.

One thing I have always said is an iPhone that's jailbroken is actually very cool. And I still stand by that.

Yes iSheep. Talking to the guy who had a Pixel 2 XL and Galaxy S8+ before my iPhone X. I said I don’t care about the criticism or you voicing your opinion. It’s the fact you literally post the exact same dumb shit in the same thread over and over again. Like you can’t fathom people actually like something you don’t and it upsets you that they do.

And I could say the same thing back at you it really must bug the hell out of you that I criticize IOS because you keep quoting me and making replies about it .

If you don't care then you wouldn't even comment about my reply.

If someone bags on the Pixel or OnePlus I don't care maybe they're right, maybe it does suck. But I'm not going to copy and quote them on and on forever. Who fucking cares.

Rocking an iPhone 11 here. Currently using the dark theme. Swiping keyboard isn’t as accurate as the google keyboard; actually, it’s in fact too accurate or sensitive that it thinks I’m spelling words correctly when I made a mistake. Google Keyboard seems to understand that I could be an idiot... haha! Maybe the phone will understand me better overtime. I don’t know if Apple has AI on this.

as for zorachus, I respect his opinion. iOS really does need to improve. Can we at least have a frigging “launchpad” like Apple does on MacOS? I’m really tired of having everything on my screen. Foldering everything in a 3x3 grid isn’t enough! When we only had 16 GB to store apps, we can’t install that many things, but now this is ridiculous! Sure, I can search, but this is still an unorganized mess! I have asked for this for years too! It’s my chief complaint. Primary reason why I’m not using android is that the phone functionality itself is unreliable. An iPhone would not kill or crash the phone app like android does...

quite frankly, I just want the iPhone to improve. You want the best for your favorite sports teams, you want your team to do better.

You’re either extremely dense or trying to unsuccessfully spin this into painting me as a fanboy. I’m replying to you because of your poor contributions to this thread (and pretty much all Apple threads that are ever posted here) which are just stating the same thing over and over. We’re tired of seeing that you don’t like iOS in the same thread 5+ times with nothing more to add. Come up with something new to say for once. If you criticized the phone constructively with an actual argument that you could explore further then I’d all be for discussing it. But unfortunately that isn’t the case.

Back on topic because I don’t want to repeat myself over and over again anymore. Don’t want to be hypocritical.

This is the first drop test I’ve seen and it’s really impressive:

Maybe Apple wasn’t BSing their marketing about the most durable glass ever.

LOL you post a video from THE most iSheep YouTuber on the internet. That's not objective whatsoever, that guy is Mr. Apple.

Anyways this bickering is so tiring already, just sad how my posts bother you so much.

I don't have that time right now to post my laundry list of things iOS is missing or doesn't do it's a huge gigantic list.

On the great website MacRumors every time that iOS beta comes out in June there's a thread and it becomes dozens of pages long as people asking why this wasn't added or fixed or revised. And year after year a lot of the same questions keep being asked and people still puzzled why Apple hasn't address them. So it certainly not just me.

LOL you post a video from THE most iSheep YouTuber on the internet. That's not objective whatsoever, that guy is Mr. Apple.
Yes, I am aware. I’ve openly called him out as being a Apple fanboy. But tell me, how the fuck do you present bias in a drop test where you are literally dropping phones onto concrete?

And your posts don’t just bother me. There are at least three other threads that I’ve seen alone where people have called you out on your shit posting. But I’ll take your advice and not “waste” my time searching for them.

On the topic of reverse wireless charging. iFixit found a second cable connected to the battery that may have originally been slated for reverse charging. Looks like Apple may have had a change of heart last minute in product development.

Also, iOS 13 is a buggy fucking mess. Definitely wasn’t ready for prime time. I don’t remember iOS being this buggy since the release of iOS 11.

"My shit posting" and using the F bomb word.

Wow.

Thought we could keep this civil like grown adults.

Yes because swearing is equivalent to shit posting. Good god just let it go. I’ve tried to move past this three times posting something actually related to this thread but you just keep going...

Well said. I think I take a lot for granted too. Things that I forget about until I use an Android phone. Like the fact that every iPhone going back the 6s got IOS 13 yesterday. There's no carriers sticking their dirty fingers in the update pool delaying or canceling them. Google has made huge strides with the Pixel lineup and I appreciate that. The OG pixel has Android 10 available to it, which matches Apples support for the then new iPhone 6s. At the same time, the Pixel is such a small part of the market, especially looking at Samsung.

Zorachus can like whatever phone he likes. Good for him, whatever makes him happy. If Android didn't exist, I don't think the iPhone would be as good as it is now. Even looking at the camera, I think this years lineup was targeted at the Pixel 3's camera. I don't think the camera would be that great if it didn't have competition. Bars are raised on both sides and I think everyone benefits.

What reviewers are talking about with iOS 13 isn't that "its still iOS" what they have an issue with is that iOS 13 (both the beta version they were using with review units and the 'release' version) is buggy. The entire beta process for iOS 13 has been a mess. No one cares that iOS is still iOS, they care that Apple released a buggy update. Thankfully, 13.1 is supposed to be out before the end of the month and that should mean some (hopefully most or all) of the bugs will be ironed out.

Reposting since it got buried earlier:

https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone+11+Pro+Max+Teardown/126000

They’re wrapping up their teardown and aren’t finding the elusive extra 2GB of RAM dedicated to the camera. Looks to be that the phones will only have 4GB of RAM. Not very ‘Pro’...

Yeah the "Pro" name is definitely entirely about bringing the iPhone branding in line with Macs and the iPad and nothing to do with how "Pro" the phones themselves are. I'm looking forward to getting the 11 Pro and messing around with it, especially comparing the quality of the screen and speakers to my 8+ but there really isn't all that much new, exciting, or "Pro" about this year's iPhones.

Looks like the physical Apple Stores opened up their remaining stock this morning. I put in a pick-up order today of a iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB in Space Gray.

I was going to wait to see if the 11’s suffered from the same shitty cell reception issues as my XS Max did before buying, but since there is a 14 day return window I’ll just test it out myself.
