GreedFall

I won't be able to try it until tomorrow a funny thread that stick out on me on Steam people feel exhausted from playing the game lol. Fatigue from it I think it's their monitor size too big if you ask me that is the problem. The unablity to focus on something for extended periods of time.

this review site is becoming one of my favorites...he's always very balanced as far as the good and bad parts of a game...

I watched that one earlier, the length put me off for awhile, but he does break things down fairly constructively so I knew I'd watch it eventually. It's a shame he didn't feel he could recommend it, but I understand his reasoning. I like that he still points out that its Spider's best game yet, they've made fantastic improvements with each game they've released and he cannot wait for their next one. It was an honest, sincere review.

I think some of people's "fatigue" is hearing the same companion dialogue frequently throughout the whole game, areas that have too much copy / paste, and only 4-6 enemy types in the game. I've heard several reviewers say it gets "tiresome" thus far. Everyone says it is a "good game" and most recommend it, but they all point out the repetition by the end. Some of this can be patched, but I don't see the lack of diversity improving much if at all. Still, I haven't played the game yet. I bought the PS4 version, while the PC Reviewers have been the ones with the most complaints so far.

Can someone confirm that the PC version doesn't support HDR? It seems like only the console versions had it implemented.

It's not on the options list by default. Some games require that you have Windows HDR enabled to see the in-game options, so I'll test it out tonight. I literally only fired up the game to look at the graphics options this morning :p

That doesn't sound promising...thanks in advance for checking. :)

below are the graphic options on PC

as for the game being repetitive.... like almost every game ever?
I tend to like skillup but I notice that he does not like certain types of "repetitive/grindy" content games.

many review sites have mentioned it as well along with the fact that there are only maybe 5 enemy types, all the areas basically look the same (especially the interiors of buildings), character models, lip synching etc...the game sounds like a mixed bag for sure...the positives are the RPG progression, skill trees and story

most reviews are positive overall but there are some issues...apparently the game is worth buying but falls short of greatness

So like all their titles, which are honestly fun but clunky.

I can can confirm that it's definitely not there at the moment. Tried the game with desktop HDR enabled and the menu has the same items.

Will probably wait a while to get this at this point...got Gears 5 to finish and Borderlands 3 to pre-load later tonight.

Joraptor was much more lenient on the game, but he also reviewed it before finishing the whole thing. He does make one point I liked: only buy this game with realistic expectations. The game was made by 35 people with a limited budget (hence a lot of the copy / paste). Knowing that, the game is actually quite impressive.

My copy showed up late in the day, so I won't get to experience it myself until tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I liked this bit from the Eurogamer review:

"It's fun. It quickly sucks you in. And yet! My main criticism against GreedFall is character writing. Rather than having a personality, characters fulfil a function. Your party members are a representation of their factions, rather than actual people...There's not enough background, not enough opportunities to speak to companions outside of quests, just a general spark missing that might elevate characters to something more than just their job description

GreedFall has more than its fair share of faults, and its curious mix of the sweet and the sour is far from a roleplaying revelation. But the elements that matter have been imbued with such love and care - so much so that I quickly forgave this ambitious RPG its shortcomings"

I figure that even if it isn't an amazing port, it's $10 cheaper than the console version and 4K/60 beats upscaled 1080p/30.

In other words, poorly optimized just to strike the egos of the PCMR. The fact that you need a 2080ti to get 4k60 at these levels of graphics is nothing to celebrate. Meanwhile, Control only gets you 1440p with that level of horsepower.

Go ahead, and keep supporting these piss poor optimized titles so you can keep feeding Nvidia $700 every couple of years with little difference in visuals. The peasants will have to settle with games like Gears 5 and RDR2 with similar or better visuals using their pathetic RX580 like gpu.

I will actually. This Dev Team made a Single Player game with no Microtransactions in a genre that has had few compelling releases since Witcher 3. In today's "Games as a Service" pukefest, I will support that. The game has flaws no doubt, but its not like this Team is trying to take advantage of its audience. Not like Anthem or Fallout 76 or Wolfenstien Youngblood and the obvious fleecing of those franchise's fans. I don't see conspiracy here, just a small Dev Team hitting above their weight (& doing fairly well imo).

What are you on and where can I get some?

I'll play this game soon as Borderlands 3 is done downloading I'll give you a perspective.
I wonder if Remanant is the better game I mean it has 8K in very postive reveiews.

I just started a Magic character not sure if I like it Melee might be the way to go.... I think I'll try them all out before I commit to one or watch you youtube video on it. You attack with the left mouse button and can guard yourself with a magic shield with the other button there is a hotbar if you play with a keyboard. Maybe a controller would work out better :p
I'll try that next I have no problem with the graphics though looks decent.

there are build videos out already. some love the melee. others complain with magic you can run out of mana. and yet others describe magic as ultimate build... I think you can respec, so....

I nearly always play a brutish melee character, so this should work fine for my approach.

I enjoy all the play styles, but it does seem most people shy away from the melee brute (which is almost always one of the funnest ways to play a game) and lean into stealth or magic.

Uh, Control will run @ 4k60 no problem if you aren't enabling raytracing. It's raytracing that drops it.

I still have no idea how buying a game equates to supporting nVidia outside of irrational hate.

So far the game is decent, looks better than I expected, been running on max settings at 3440/1440 and 100hz, no drops yet but I have so little game time I’m still in the first town.

Lip sync is terrible, there is some jank, so far enjoying it and want to play more.

This review title pretty much everything in a nutshell.

"GreedFall Review - A Fun Time, But Nothing Ground Breaking"

Played about 6 hrs yesterday. Spent 4 in the intro area alone, making sure I found & did everything... and did it in a way that didn't lose any reputation with any of the Factions. The lip sync is jarring at first, but after the first couple cutscenes I was pulled in enough I hardly noticed it. Magic did feel weak at the start, but it ignores Armor, so once I coupled it with a weapon (sword in my case) to break the Armor first, it worked better. Still pales to the other Trees until you can level it.

They definitely make you think about your Skill Tree choices. I can see a lot of returning to early areas once you've unlocked more Talents, to get into Chests / rooms you didn't have the Skills for before. I stealthed threw as much as I could. Dressing as the Faction you are dealing with makes a huge difference, but they don't really point out that you've picked up a Faction friendly outfit. The title sometimes gave it away, but I had to pay attention to be careful not to accidently sell one. You can find / buy them in more than one place, so not a total crisis if you do, but they are rather limited.

Personally I'm having fun with it. Controls took some getting used to, particularly timing the Parry / Shield (magic parry), but once I got that the combat got easier. It is easy to get surrounded in congested areas, but open areas were fairly straight forward. There is a lot of dialogue, and no way to pause during it. I don't mind the dialogue, missed it actually, but learn to save before every conversation.

I got the PS4 version, so cannot coment on PC. Game runs smooth and looks good. I've only just met my 4th party member, but so far my review would be favorable.

I refunded because the controls are just bad I'm sure I could get used to them but it doesn't feel like a action game which is the way I would want to lay out the controls and how controllers are designed in the first place. I mean hit left directional bad for gunfire pause on the left bumper attack on the X button they you have to run around to avoid stuff and maybe pause to win my brain isn't down for it.

how many games do you refund?...you must be on the verge of getting blacklisted on Steam from future returns
