TEKKEN 7 is coming to PC - Lead platform due to engine

Will have to try some of those tweaks out. The film grain and blur out of control even at 4K. At least to me. I've gotten used to it, but it keeps the game from looking as good as it should. They're less reliant on animation and the environment, but SF5 and KI look much better, IMO.
Here is an example using only r.SceneColorFringeQuality (affects chromatic aberration and some motion blur).

937686044_preview_with_chromaticblur.jpg r.SceneColorFringeQuality=1 (default on HIGH/ULTRA)

937686044_preview_without_chromaticblur.jpg r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 (these are thumbnails, click on one and you can switch between them).

That's VERY significant. DEFINITELY doing this now! Thanks for posting.
You are very welcome! I wanted to show because I thought it was important to try this setting alone and get accustomed to how it looks set to zero before adjusting tonemapper quality (which affects more things than just a perceived film grain reduction).

Tested it out last night. It might be a placebo thing, but I could swear that it seems to impact my inputs in some weird way. I can't explain it, but it just felt like the timing wasn't the same. I removed the ini lines and things normalized.
Granted, there was also game patch that came out yesterday, too. The only thing I noticed about it was that I seemingly no longer see the thumbnails and records for people that join in casual match.

Am still enjoying the game, but I'm also lamenting how lame I feel like I have to play with King. It feels like mashing punches like mad is incredibly effective against too many of his setups. He also totally lacks any low hitting combos. At least outside of his 10 string, which people have been seeing for 20 years. This is all the while like 2/3 of the cast can start a 40% damage combo off of a low hit 1-2-3 sequence.
As a result I feel like I'm stuck spamming Ali kicks to open anything up. Swapping over to Dragunov feels like I have so many more things to open people up. This is in spite of King having literally 3x as many moves. I wish King had some sort of quick low after 1-2 or 2-1 to keep people honest. People can just mash punch to beat any follow-ups he has for either.

This may have been due to certain visual cues you were used to from the character motion blur, but I am only guessing. Did the input timing feel more or less responsive?

Do you experience the same impact on inputs when selecting MEDIUM for Post-Processing Quality (without the ini lines)?

Tekken 7 has 7.2 frames of input lag on PS4, 6.3 frames on XBOX1 and I cannot find any definitive answer on the PC version.

Harada himself said it's there to reduce lag for online play and I am certain this input lag exists in offline play as well.

There are still several classic characters that I still want to see. Marduk, Armor King, Julia, Ganryu, Zafina, Baek, Wang, and Bruce aren't in the the game, nor do they have any kind of doppelganger with their moves. We don't need 2 Laws, 2 Changs, 3 Capoeira clones, a bunch of Jacks, etc. but I would like to see the whole unique cast in there.

People are still searching around in the game contents, but I was able to compile this list and attempt to match character codes to the corresponding names. Is it leftover code from TTT2, dormant or scrapped? Who knows, it is in the game.
Note: You can fit 6 characters on each side of the character select screen. If you resize or move the large Random selector, you get 1 or 2 more slots. That is 11 or 12 characters potentially, excluding the upcoming 2 guest characters.

I really want Armor King, Marduk, and Ganryu. They were my regular characters other than King, so I'll hope this isn't just a giant red herring.
With King I feel a bit overwhelmed by any characters with mashy strings. He just doesn't have enough quick moves to keep them from going bonkers. Plus he's almost too "honest" for a game like this. 1/2 the cast can bust out some crazy 40% damage combo off of a safe mid sequence or (worse) a safe low hit. He's stuck using the hop kick, which people can jab him out of way too easily now. In 3-5 it was a quicker and higher priority move. I can't even use it after blocked lows in most instances.
Armor King's WGF and Marduk's back-dash tackle would hopefully put an end to some of my woes.

In terms of the inputs changing with the graphical edits, I narrowed it down to buffered moves. For instance, when doing some of King's juggle sequences, you'll buffer in a ground grab while they're falling so it comes out immediately when your current move is ending. When I tinkered with the graphical settings, the ground grab would come out as a standing one. Repeatedly. Not every time, but most of the time. I had similar issues when trying some of his D/F 4,3,3 sequences. Often the'd just come out as d+4. It's like it didn't like the directional inputs being input in advance.

Yeah, It may be just leftover code from Tag Tournament 2. If not, it shows which characters they have been experimenting/considering. Keep in mind this list of inactive character codes is roughly double what can be fit onto the character select screen. When filled up, 6 on each side and a resized random select for one extra slot, it brings us to 50 characters (maybe 51 if the random select is moved completely).

As for King, I don't know him well enough to say what has changed or how he is best utilized now. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=tekken+7+king&ia=videos

Did MEDIUM Post-Processing Quality or lower give you the same problems with buffered inputs as the manual .ini change (r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0) ? Which edits appeared to affect the move buffer?

I didn't mess with the medium settings (I just went back to the defaults) but I might play around a little more. I'm running at 4K (@ 0.65) with everything set to "Ultra."

In the case of King, I'm just finding it tough to sneak hits in. I can hit his combos and multis with no issue. It mainly comes down to actually being able to land a launcher or grab against someone going full ham.
In watching tournament and high-level player videos, you see people playing very reserved and using a lot of movement and technique. Yet whenever I'm playing it feels like people are mashing buttons like mad and doing one mid/low string after another. Other than abusing Ali kicks and shoulder rams I don't really know what tools I have to shut a lot of that down. 1-2's aren't cutting it and B+1 seems to be too slow. The old lean back "crazy punch" from Armor King would come in handy, but they took that move away. My mistakes net me 1/2 my life gone and my successes aren't giving me the same results.

I swapped over to Paul and it's instantly easier no matter how dirty I feel doing it.

Marduk and Armor King release today. Julia Chang and Negan are the last 2 coming with Season 2, they probably won't be out for a few months though.

This is fantastic! AK and Marduk were always my favorites along with King. I'll probably still be terrible at this game, but I'll at least attempt to start playing it again. I think I just need a character that can stuff out high/low shenanigans better. I feel like I'm constantly getting by combos that begin low and King's entire game is too "honest" to do much back.

Did anyone watch TWT Finals? Rangchu (Panda player) won, it was pretty great, taking down both tournament favorites back to back (Knee/Qudans).

I haven't watched competitive Tekken in a while. It feels like the same 2-3 players and characters battling one another in every tournament, so I get bored quickly. There's only so much Jack and Dragunov I can handle.
I find myself missing the TTT days where half the cast was broken and therefore the same balanced itself. With what I have watched of T7, 2/3 of the cast never sees any tournament action. I suppose that's one reason it was so neat to see a King player doing well at EVO.

Armor King is your offensive aggressive wavedashing answer, my friend.

Bring back all Tekken 2 Chars.
If there is enough boost in sales from the game and season content, I am sure Namco will green light a Season 3. This is especially possible because the fighting game community has embraced this game at tournaments. Otherwise we will have to wait until Tekken 8. I understand you though: Baek, Kunimitsu, Bruce, Jun, Wang, Michelle, Ganryu, Angel, Roger, Alex, Prototype Jack.

Everyone will be playing Panda now lol, suddenly not considered low tier. I am happy someone fought an uphill battle and won, not only by choice of character but he finished 13th in the season. He deserves so much more credit.

I usually watch the top 8s of each tournament, and whatever Josie and Gigas fights I can find (since I play them). Will be dropping Gigas for Marduk probably though most likely.

Yeah, I tried to pick up Gigas and he didn't feel quite right to me. He's like a hybrid of 2-3 characters (Marduk being one) but none of them were the aspects I wanted.
I'll probably alternate with AK and Marduk more than likely. I guess it depends on how different Marduk is, though. All of the videos only show him using the tackle as a combo ender. I generally liked using it as a dodge/counter. With so many speed mashes in T7, I can imagine the old retreat tackle snuffing that stuff out easily. Ditto with the sidestepping hammer.
AK looks to be pretty similar to his last iterations, but with more combo potential. I love that the dark knee finally seems to be a combo tool. I imagine his shoulder slam putting high/low mashers on notice, too.

Jun was my fucking best character. Would destroy opponents using her. But your list is spot on. It's why Tekken two has remained my favorite Tekken in the series.

Mos def.

I've been enjoying T7 off and on, but ehhhh. I'm enjoying SC6 and DB FighterZ a lot more....

Armor King though, is obviously a welcome addition :)

EDIT: People are going to say I'm retarded, but I still consider this to be the greatest console fighter of all time:
51cEYF7djhL._AC_SX215_.jpg

Virtua Fighter was always more technical than Tekken, although I found 4 to be at least a little more approachable than the earlier ones. I played that one a bit and felt mostly at home after not really loving 3.
My favorite console fighter ever is probably the final iteration of Street Fighter 4. Either that or maybe one of those versions of Alpha 3 that had like 50 characters. 3D-wise, the original Tekken Tag on PS2 reigns supreme for me.

I'm still hopeful we'll see Tekken X Street Fighter someday. Namco does such a good job with guest characters. I'd love to see how the SF grapplers would integrate into Tekken's world.

Lol. This thread made me remember waaay back in the day when I played Street fighter in the arcade. I could get a quarter to last a good while eating people with Blanka.

Just played a bit to test out Armor King and he is definitely the best bowler.

I played both AK and Marduk, and they're as I hoped. Both are basically "intact" from previous games, but with some new nuances. Marduk is all about heavy damage from a few hits while AK piles on the juggles. Tackles still work like they used to, although you have to do your grounded follow ups pretty fast. You can no longer wait for a reaction - you basically have to guess on your way down or he'll let them up.
One thing I've come realize is that it seems like the old giant swing tic off of 2, 1 seems to be totally absent in T7. I can't get it to work with King or AK and I think that's one thing that has held me back. The grab just doesn't come out for some reason.

I'm definitely no expert, but some of these look pretty devastating and they're mostly practical, too.

Last night was pretty crazy, every other match was against Armor King and Marduk pretty much in regular online, only ran into AK once in ranked. I'll probably commit to playing Marduk this weekend and practice his movelist, but I ended up sticking with Josie/Gigas last night just learn how to punish AK/Marduk with what I'm comfortable with.

I'm trying to get back into this now that SF5 is starting to get stale.

Just curious - is there some type of training mode where you can practice defending moves at random? I feel like that's what I really need to up my game. My offense, movement, and execution are still intact from the old days. My problem is that I simply don't have enough experience defending the 8 million moves everyone now has. Especially now that seemingly every move has at least one follow-up.

Does something like that exist?

You would need to set it to CPU AI IIRC, there's no damage taken so you can go on infinitely. But I recommend using the record function or if you don't use want to bother with character you can select moves directly off the movelist to play out against you.

I'll give that a try later. Whenever I go online I feel like I do really well vs. talented players and get bodied by mashers. I know how to deal with traditional characters like Kaz, Jin, Hwoarang, etc. but once people start busting out those long ass high/low speed strings I can never get going. Back in the DR days I won a long online set vs. Alex Valle. Now I find myself losing to trash play.

I have the same issue, I have gotten up to brown ranks as Josie, but have fell all the way back down to like Dan 2, and got smashed hardcore by the low ranks because they spam buttons and are more or less unpredictible. I'm actually in the process of getting Josie back up to green ranks atleast after having a rough weekend (went all the way down to 3rd Dan). In unranked I usually do pretty good against Red and Purple ranked players, I actually beat a Ryujin in a tournament last weekend which felt pretty good. But yea you can get trapped in "Green Hell" and not get out because it is the borderline decent players but which relies on a lot of gimmics which if you don't know how to stop you get beat pretty easy.

I definitely need to put more time into practice as well to make my trip back into yellow ranks easier.

I've been practicing with Armor King a little (vs. the CPU in "treasure battle") and I'm hoping his shoulder block can put an end to the nonsense. That move is lightning fast, hits mid, and is safer than it probably should be. My main concern is just once people get rolling I need to be able to stop it.

If they don't introduce a new grappler to SF5 (I'm hoping for Sodom) soon, I think I'm just going to go back to Tekken and bail on it.

Season 3 starts today for anyone interested. Reposting what they posted on Steam.

The change list looks like they've put a lot of time into balancing the game. There are at least a half dozen tweaks for everyone including new moves for each character, too.
Not sure that'll affect tournament meta, but I'm getting pretty bored of watching the same 5-6 characters in tournament play. I'd love to see some Anna, Nina, Yoshi, Katarina, Leo, etc.

Nina was my jam back in the Tekken 2-3 days. I should pick this game up professionally just to make you happy .

I've been a King and Armor King player since the original. Both have super high level people winning with them (Lil Majin and JDCR) but they're basically the only ones.
Most tournaments consist of Geese vs. Steve over and over. It's one reason I can handle Ash's fairly boring playstyle. At least he's using a different character.

King was super OP in the hands of people who knew how to use him. I had a hard time with him because I always would end up indecisive on what to do in critical moments. Seems like most people stick with easy OP characters like Paul and that gets boring rather quickly.

In my case, I was basically at the highest level of casual play in the Tag era. I’d lose to tournament-caliber players, but could beat most anyone else. At the highest levels, competitive Tekken requires a level of patience and practice that I never was and never will be capable of. The zany backdashes, throw escapes, and ability to recognize every low in the game seem to be what separates pros from everyone else. King’s massive movelist and shenanigans always helped me a bit, but I’d run into a wall with hyper defensive players that could Korean backdash and break grabs. Nina was pretty good in those days, but I guess she sucks now. I remember Michelle and Julia being the match I hated most. Their high/low stuff always threw me off.
