Borderlands 3

Reviews don't even matter with Borderlands - it's videogame pizza. It's just fun, the loot grind is addictive, it's even better in co-op.

The instanced loot alone is going to make finding legendaries way more fun since you won't have to feel guilty about taking it when playing co-op.

F.U Epic!
Heh. I realize I'm in a weird state of denial - excited it's finally out after so many years of waiting, but knowing I won't be playing on release day unless I re-buy a console before Friday. Because I'd rather throw my RTX2080 in a landfill than validate a gloating Tim Sweeney's hostage tactics. If BL3 puts up less than embarrassing numbers on EGS then the forced exclusives and bribery bullshit will never end.

In terms of least-worst options, this is one of those rare instances I actually wished the publisher did just start their own launcher/store and sell the game on there - to hell with launcher fragmentation.

This is one of those rare instances I actually wished the publisher did use their high profile sequel to start their own store/downloader, I don't care about game consolidation on Steam anymore.

lol nobody cares. It's going to be huge and you're going to feel left out and end up buying it.

Couldn't agree more. I couldn't give a crap what store has it, I'm buying it and probably day 1 and doubt I'll regret it. Borderlands 2 was virtually a perfect game and even if it's only half as good as 2 (ie the pre sequel) it'll be worth the money.

Never did understand the nerd rage over this game or any being a Epic/Steam/GOG/UPlay/Origin or whatever exclusive. I just want the game.

I've been playing the videos & looking at the stuff on the VIP site, earning "points", not sure what to do with them, got a lot of points for Assassins Creed that I did use to get 20% off Odyssey, but not going to waste my time on skins & shit like that (got a sword for points that I couldn't level up, stashed it on the ship and forgot about it). Pre-loads start about 4 days before release. I'll be playing Sins of a Solar Empire & GalCiv 3 till then.

Definitely preferred Steam for Multiplayer Co-Op stuff because all of my friends are on Steam and I don't think all of them use Epic, definitely not near as often. As far as SP goes, I was against Epic in the beginning but I know there's nothing that can be done about it at this point. If the game ends up getting rave reviews I doubt I'll wait the full length of time before it goes to Steam just out of spite. I'm still on the "exclusivity is bullshit" train, but I can still have that opinion and use whatever platform I have to as long as I get to enjoy the game.

This is cringeworthy.

The game is still widely available. You just go to a different URL to get it.

2K is confident they paid the reviewers enough

After all the backlash from the EGS exclusivity deal, they'd have to have some major balls to lift the embargo 4 days before release if it's actually shitty game and they're bribing reviewers for high scores. This isn't EA we're talking about here...

Similarly, do people really think Epic would be touting shitty games as controversial paid exclusives in an attempt to build up their "store" or "platform" or whatever they call it?

Of course, as always, all bets are off and the game could be a total train wreck. We won't know until Friday.

I picked up the Deus Ex collectors edition a few weeks ago that was my first one ever for 20.00 statue of Adam Jensen looked really nice. Probably retailed at 149.99 or something

Forgive my ignorance to the BL series, but is this like a "Diablo"-esque loot grinder type of game, but in FPS format?

Man I wish this was out already, I have NOTHING to do today!

I also have no one to play with this with, hoping I can friend up and play with some of you, don't have a single friend on the Epic launcher lol, feel free to add me if you're looking for people to play with. few35t

They don't need to bribe any reviewers - there's been so much preview material and gameplay thay we know what we're getting. IGN and friends will give out 8.8's and 8.9's, Metacritic will settle into a 8.3 or 8.4 average. The game will get dinged for dumb stuff like "being basically more Borderlands and not a totally different game".

But the scores won't factor the addictive effect once you start playing. The game is crack, scores don't matter once it gets underway.

Everyone is going to give this game a good review because everyone wants the series to evolve.

I like that videogame pizza description. If you like these kinds of games then you know this series delivers the goods. For all their flaws, this is the one thing Gearbox can get right. No bribes necessary. It will be a solid, fun looter shooter and likely the best of its kind.

It remains to be seen how much "evolution" has happened here but thus far I think we can clearly see some sort of advancement and certainly some welcome refinements.

OK, not going to watch the crazies guns video, I might not even read anythign spoiler-y until I have most of the story complete the first time. But that living monster (shot)gun..? CRAZYINESS!

The Verdict - If Borderlands 3 is what happens when a modern looter shooter doesn’t concern itself with the longevity of its item economy and daily quests then you can sign me up for Borderlands 4 right now. Being untethered from persistent servers and able to trade loot at will is a refreshing change of pace, but that’s hardly the only reason why this such an amazing co-op FPS. The sheer magnitude and diversity of its arsenal of fun and surprising weaponry is unmatched, and the striking amount of loving detail and variety packed into its energetic and replayable 30-hour campaign is what makes Borderlands 3 a high-point for the series – and the genre as a whole.

The Borderlands formula might be a bit dated with its raunchy jokes and cheesy dialogue, but that doesn’t change that it is a formula that keeps reeling players back in again and again. Despite the fact that I’ve already logged over 40 hours in the game, I still can't help but feel the want to dive back in with a new character just to experience it all again. But beating the campaign doesn’t bring the story to an end. There’s still plenty of great content to devour after that final boss fight, including True Vault Hunter mode, and plenty of great side quests featuring some of the best characters ever found in the series. Whether you’re an old fan who has played all the previous games, or a brand-new fan just diving into the series, Borderlands 3 is an absolute masterpiece that will bring you hours upon hours of fun.

As for post-game, the main thing is the Proving Ground challenges, which task you with beating a ton of enemies (and a boss) to a pulp in less than 30 minutes. Having played through several runs, it's not nearly as expansive as say, a live-service-oriented game like Division 2. And that's okay! Borderlands has a very old school "just keep repeating the game" feel to it that's fun solo, much less with other people involved. Getting new loot, more skills, and enhancing my Guardian Rank progress for my alts is fun: and that counts for a hell of a lot. As an aside, I did not encounter any major glitches outside of one crash on PC literally in the final area of the game.

Borderlands 3 takes most of the good bits of Borderlands 2 and either rolls with them or improves upon them. It didn't need to reinvent the wheel either, as Gearbox pretty much had the formula figured out the second time around.

Borderlands 3 does not feel like a total transformation for the series, just an evolution. And that may leave some part of it stuck in the past, but overwhelmingly, it’s a game that’s still a blast to play, particularly for those into the loot shooter genre. It’s easy to see that with Anthem on life support and The Division 2 in limbo, that the next few years may be a Destiny V. Borderlands horse race. The differences between the two may be large in many ways, and yet yes, they definitely are competitors, as there are only so many hours in the day and both demand a large amount of time if you want to farm their respective endgames. It’s going to be a genuinely tough decision which of these to devote my time to if both keep being as engaging as they’ve been so far.

But that’s what we call a “good problem.” Borderlands 3 was worth the wait and will be a fixture in this genre for years to come. And I think few fans of the last two will be disappointed when they get their hands on it at last.

The key word: Evolution. Good.

Sounds like what many of us would have hoped for with realistic expectations. I'm looking forward to it. :)
