Found my first MP3 player

iPod 4th-gen, 20GB. First full-size model with the Click Wheel. And yes, this is from when I originally got it, way back in 2004.

It's funny, numerous people here talk about how their first MP3 player was hot garbage in some respects... not this one! The ease of use, straightforward syncing and ample capacity (at the time) made it a pleasure to use. I was more than a little spoiled, but I appreciated it every time I used it.

This was mine. 20GB Archos Jukebox. I loved it, but required manual organization of all my music.
At the time I didn't mind, the whole digital thing was fun and new.

That original 20GB of music is still somewhere in my current digital collection.

lol I remember that beast....

I saved up so much money when I was a kid to buy a Rio Karma, and the hard drive in the thing died on me within 5 months of owning it. It only had a 3 month warranty, and their "fix" for it was literally to slam the Karma into the palm of your hand.

I was too poor to really do anything with it and I eventually sold it for peanuts.

I kick myself to this day for doing that. It would still be an awesome player with a solid state drive in there. Oh well.

I think my first MP3 player was a Creative Labs one that looked like a cd player. Nomad Jukebox? I do however still have this beauty circa 2001. Terratec M3Po It took a IDE hdd and could transfer audiocd to mp3 and copy mp3 files to hdd albeit so horribly slow that it was faster to unplug the drive and dump files via windows. I planned on gutting it a while back for a htpc but brushed aluminum clashed with my gear

I remember when Diamond announced theirs, the RIAA went apeshit over it and sued them. They claimed it was a medium to share MP3's and was another threat to the existence of commercialized music.

i mean i dont care screw that industry, but didnt it(digital music) definitely do that??? apple rebuilt their empire on a 250 gb hard drive... at $1 a song it would take well over $100,000 to legally fill with music haha

it killed the album concept and even digital sales are down vs streaming-

so something died.

Bought the cheapest unknown maker 32MB mp3 player with a 32MB Smartmedia card from Directron or Tigerdirect in the early 2000s and barely used it.

Jumped on the Minidisc wagon with the Sony MZ-N505

, then the Hi-MDs, MZ-NH600D

, and lastly MZ-RH10, sadly OLED tec was still new and the screen gave out :(
Always loved the feel of Minidisc, the clicking of opening and shutting the deck, the drive spinning up and down, and how you can hear the laser assembly move across to seek your tunes....

Had a blue Apple 1GB Shuffle 2nd gen, jack started to fail, which doubled as the USB port.

A couple of refurbed 2GB Sansa Clips that had battery failures while wearing them around the neck....
Nice player but lacked a microSD slot.

A couple of 4GB Sansa Clip+ , with up to a 32GB uSD slot, but the OLED screens crapped out, note to users: use a wall plug to charge them as the screen will power off, leaving in plugged into a PC will keep the screen on and burn it out.....
Liked the Clip line, great for cycling due to the simple hardware buttons.

Had a 2GB Sansa Fuse til it was stolen..... thx thieves!
Nice player with uSD slot, bottom headphone jack for easy in-pocket, dedicate 30pin connector tho....

Only HDD player I had was a 30GB Creative Vision M
Shame the jack was on top, because you had to take it out of the pocket to navigate it.
Always wanted to upgrade the drive as my song collection started to grow like crazy due to one of my neighbors wad a open WIFI on broadband, ya I was a filthy pirate.....

Had a Roku Soundbridge but never fully set it up.

Rio Karma.....

I remember wanting one of those, but couldn't afford it IIRC.

That's cute. How different was your taste in music 15 years ago?

I don't think I ever could afford an mp3 player before they fell out of fashion...
Same taste as of today, anime OSTs :p
I still use a dedicated MP3 player, a Sansa Clip+ for cycling since it has hardware buttons I can operate just by feel.

This was my first MP3 player, the Creative Zen Vision M:
I want to pickup one of those again an swap the HDD out with a microSD adapter some guy made for the old iPods, and IIRC, they work with the Vision.
