Would you buy open box?

I just got probably the best open box deals of my life from my local Micro Center:
Gigabyte X399 Gaming 7 - $89.96
Threadripper 2920X - $239.96
With tax $354.66 total.

The board was in a non-original box with only the backplate. There was some thermal compound on the top of the metal over the socket and on the clear socket cover, and on some other areas like ram slots. Some alcohol and a rag fixed that all up easily enough.
The cpu had all original packaging, but was opened. It had some thermal paste around the edges and the bottom looked a bit dirty, so more work with rags and alcohol and it cleaned up nicely.

At first the ram in slot 2 was not detected, but I took out the cpu and installed it again. I went slower, tightening the screws a little each at a time, and now I have quad channel RAM. (That was advice from Kyle in a video on how to install threadrippers, so thanks Kyle.)

I know the 3rd gen Ryzen on AM4 has much better IPC but this is a pretty cool combo and I'll probably stick with it for a while.

No I rather buy used and save some money, open box may technically still be new but you never know, it might have been used once for a very short time

I'd be iffy about buying Open Box from a 3rd party seller unless they're willing to take the hit on return shipping if the item is banged up or shows signs of wear/use since some people are careless with their purchases. And usually they won't since shipping is expensive and cuts into/kills a 3rd party seller's profits (on top of the insane fees Amazon charges them).

But I buy Open Box from MicroCenter and Amazon itself all the time and you save plenty of money. The items are usually practically brand new and in great shape, and if it's not, MicroCenter and Amazon will accept returns and provide free return shipping labels.

Heres my 2 cents, if your buying open box, you want the chance to inspect the device carefully. This chance can come either as instore in front of the selling merchant and at home or just at home. The more chances you can inspect a device the better it is for you.

Now days though, big box stores/websites know that open box means deal, so they jack their prices up to a point, where at the immediate point, the open box is a deal, but if you can wait you can probably get the same price on a new in box deal in a short amount of time.
