How many 3900x silicon lottery losers are going to upgrade to 3950x?

I guess the 3950x time frame is still a big mystery, searching around I can hardly find rumor sites and such talking about it. Either they have it wrapped down tight or it's not close to launch time.

I thought AmD said Sept 7th?

There is no mystery about it. During AMD's Ryzen 3000 series announcement, the existence of it was officially confirmed and we were later told that the CPU would be available on September 7th 2019. This was covered by most reviewers in their Ryzen 3000 series launch coverage.

Does the embargo lift the same day? I would think we are close enough to release right now that most/all the major reviewers have their samples and are likely testing as we speak.

With AMD not even able to keep up with demands for the 3900x, big Epyc upcoming contracts/sells, I expect it will be delayed or a very limited availability for the 3950x. If they do come out and one wants one - better grab them quick. Could also be a paper launch on Sept 7 which I sure hope not.

If you're willing to get up early and get to the retail front you'll get one.

I got 3900x on day 1 at microcenter
Was there 1 hour before opening. People are still waiting 2 months for a chip.

Dont always work out that way for me though.

First problem, Ryzen 3900X not available. I bet that if I wait for around one month I will be able to chose between 3900, 3900X, 3950X.

It's been well over a month already and the 3900x is still pretty difficult to acquire, at least conveniently. I'll bet in a month, that trend will shift away from the 3900x but not the 3950x

I bought mine at BestBuy which took less than a week to pick up in store. Now I am sure it would be much longer than that.
