well seems like intel/MS (and probably the government) up to their nastiness again. looks like the only reason you can't get win7 updates for ryzen/skylake is because they want you to move to the less secure spyware of an OS that is windows 10.

i was reading a thread at tom's (https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/windows-7-updates-on-ryzen.3228014/) and if you scroll down to the third post on that page you will see a link to a little program called "wufuc" and here is the official description:
"Disables the "Unsupported Hardware" message in Windows Update, and allows you to continue installing updates on Windows 7 and 8.1 systems with Intel Kaby Lake, AMD Ryzen, or other unsupported processors."

**the link is actually to a github page so don't worry about the files at the top of page, scroll down a bit to the downloads you'll see "latest stable builds"*** not sure if i'm allowed to post the direct link here???

Wufuc worked great on my X470 Tacihi for the year that I used it. It is a pain to get Win7 to install since the USB drivers aren't recognized so a ps/2 keyboard is required until chipset drivers are installed. I ended up going to 10 in May when that system had a hardware failure.

i always install it from a disc. but the more people that keep it installed the more likely they will be to extend support. if they don't they are dumb because windows 10 is a fail in the eyes of a lot of people. and those people will prob end up jumping ship for daily computing and w/ proton there will prob be a very minimal need for windows at all.

ASrock made a simple tool to add the USB3 drivers to a Windows 7 USB or CD image. Should work with any AM4 board.

That said, I've been very happy with Ubuntu. Steam/Proton works great.

I tried to use windows 7 with my x370 board. Had no luck. Ended up going to LTSC. With the start menu replaced i can't really complain.

WU on 7 always worked with Skylake.
Newer CPUs are the issue.

This is very old news, from back when the "unsupported hardware" message first appeared. But yeah, the prevention on installing Windows 7 is entirely artificial and it's easy to get rid of the "unsupported hardware" message with the tool you mentioned, or by uninstalling the KB update that added the "unsupported hardware" message for newer CPUs.

When I was looking into them, MSI Smart Tool seemed to be the one that most people had success with. It also adds NVMe drivers to a USB Windows installer. I don't know if it also works for CD images, though.

I used wufuc also from memory.
