Is $700 a good price for these specs?

I've never purchased a laptop, always been given hand me downs, but now its time I need a new one.

These are the specs of one I found on sale:
CPU - Core i7 8565U
GPU - GeForce MX250 (2 GB GDDR5)
RAM - 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM
HDD - 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA; 16 GB Intel® Optane™ memory
Display - Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS (touch)
Battery - 3-cell, 41 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic
Wifi - Intel A/C 2x2

Seems like a pretty good deal considering the hardware

Looks like Ultrabook specs. That 8GB is kind of a bummer, though.

I would search on a bit harder.

What's your budget?

Get a laptop from Dell outlet. They frequently have coupons and good deals.

Most of those are refurbished. Are Dell refurbished reliably safe buys? I always worry when someone else has owned it and you have no idea what might be wrong with it

Dell Outlet is pretty reliable. Even the scratch and dents are generally quite good.

GTX 1060 is much much faster. Like 2x-4x faster depending on game and resolution. Just be careful of the 3GB vs 6GB variant of GTX 1060.

You can find the Dell G3 with a GTX 1060 for $600. The screen is upgradeable after market as well to 144hz.

Also, is the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB significantly better than the MX150 GPU?
Very much so!

Use slickdeals.net and search for laptop.

It’s a deal forum and the community there is pretty good about helping novices find the best deals. People vote on the price with thumbs up or down. The best deals have a lot of thumbs up.

IMO 8GB of RAM is fine for most any purpose on a laptop, at this time. Make absolutely sure what you buy has an SSD. Don’t buy a platter drive at this point on a laptop. The difference is night and day on snappiness feel and usability.

I would trust a refurb, I used to do refurbs, and they are test a ton more than a normal unit. youre less like to have an issue with one.

that one will likely disappoint the mx series have always been garbage. look for one with at least a 1050ti preferably 1060 or 1660ti

I bought my new one barebones no ram no hdd or ssd they wanted a premium for the parts. so i saved myself around 500 more in parts for my laptop you don't need anywhere near the monster i have...

I have a Eluktronics mech 17 g1rx it is a tong feng chassis same as the walmart gaming laptop but i think mine has a better keyboard and ips panel the keyboard is a mechanical brown style switch they start at 1099 the closest ready built one similar to mine is 2150$...

I replaced a Eluktronics p650hs-g because the dgpu went out due to a sudden shock otherwise the laptop was great clevo chassis and better than all the toshiba and lenovo models i used before.

No why. Btw this is probably the cheapest bang for buck gaming laptop. asus tuf there is an issue with ryzen apu laptops you will need to disable the vega igpu to force the use of the gtx 1660 ti or it will try to use the vega igpu

I will admit all 3 of the laptops I mentioned are gaming laptops and out of the op budget. It really depends what he wants to do with it for 600 that is a lot restrictive I would look at refurbished units of older models with 7th or 8th gen i7 cpu and 1050ti or 1060ti if possible. You might get lucky find a deal for around 600. But imho since this is going to be your first for you find one you really like. Here is one closer Acer nitro it is like 750 has an ok dgpu and cpu

as for the original post, those specs are horrid for $700 especially when you compare them to Dell or other Outlet deals
