What mechanical disk should i buy today for my scratch disk.

low noise
long levity
Cheap

you can get 500GB ssds for 50 bucks. if you want cheaper than that, you can get much larger on HDD, used.

Why even bother with a mechanical.... there are super cheap SSDs now.

1TB SSD = $85 bucks now, lower if on sale/special.. & 2TB SSD for $185... is still a good deal considering a 2TB hard drive.

im only seeing one bad sector in that pic. have you run a disk check on it yet? 'cause one bad sector isn't bad and should be able to be marked off. error count could be from that bad sector or even a bad cable. have you ran the oem disk tool on it? see what it says.

I wouldn't bother troubleshooting an ancient 300 GB drive beyond making sure the cable didn't come loose. It's SSD upgrade time for the OP.

That or a 6TB spinner if you need a ton of space for all your po... video games and important documents. They had the best price/TB last I checked. Brand doesn't seem to matter much these days, Seagate got a ton of flak some years back for a bad run of 3TB drives but in the last several years I haven't had any issues with the 3TB Seagates/6TB WD drives I'm running.
