Price being equal; 5700XT or 2070 Super?

Techspot has the difference between the 5700xt and 2070 super as 2-4%. Anandtech shows the same. Meh. Game selection seems to play a huge role, the games you play should determine your selection along with feature set not company bias.

Snowdog = Jensen

Easy to spot people who can not think objectively. They stand out.

this is 100% true, @ 1440P the difference is very small but as sabre has stated base it on the games you play and what kind of monitor you have.

Guys tell me if i am wrong but GSYNC monitors cannot be used on RADEON cards, so if you have a GSYNC monitor and want to use that stick with your nvidia

Right: The difference is very small on average between the two cards, but may be wider in individual games -- the games you play should also influence your decision.

Correct: unless there's been some miracle over the past few weeks, GSYNC-branded/certified monitors CANNOT do freesync. However, a good many, if not most, freesync monitors can do gsync (you'll want to check compatibility, the list continually grows).

There are two forms of G-sync Monitors.
-G-Sync displays
-G-Sync compatible displays.

There are also two forms of Freesync monitors.
-FreeSync.
-FreeSync2.0

Yes games selection massively influences this, and TPU has a LOT more games than either, which should pull them closer to average results.

Fewer games means more open to skewed, especially if, like Techspot, you have fewer games and a massive outlier like Forza Horizon 4. It's too bad that Techspot, famous for having about thirty plus games, only used 12 this time. That is the lowest I have ever seen them do for a major GPU release. I was really looking forward to Techspots 30+ games to average out the results. They really dropped the ball this time. For instance, with the RTX 2060, they did 36 games. That kind of high game count gives much higher confidence you are getting closer to average difference between cards.

It is only one review... There are still 30 more you can read, as to cross reference Each card's relative performance to each other.

$399 for AMD
$499 for Nvidia

The 5800 Series is coming. So save yourself $100 bucks now.... and when you sell the 5700 to buy the 5800... use that extra $100 then. Almost a free upgrade.

Assumig he 5800 will cost $499 and the 5700 doesn't drop in price.... Good luck with both.

honestly just buy a card you will be happy for now, you really have two (2) options, buy a card now or wait til next year.

Price being similar, the 2070S is the better card. There's a reason the 5700XT is $100 dlls cheaper and no its not because AMD is nice to gamers ;);)

That said, I'd take a look for RTX2080 deals, maybe you can get one at a lower price than the RTX2070S even new.

I don't need good luck, all I have to do is listen to Dr Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD. She already told us what is coming and in what space...

Radeon VII is eol @ $699.
It's replacement is coming very soon wearing RDNA... and performing well into the 2080ti space.

tick, tock..

she also said VII would be their highest performance offering for the entire year. Everyone forgot that.

Correct, meaning that AMD won't be releasing a tier above the Radeon 7 this year, not that it the R7's performance won't be replaced. Because Navi already does that in some instances. It means that a higher-end card at $799+ won't be coming in 2019. That card is dubed "Nvidia-killer" /AKA 5900 Series.

But "big navi" is the same tier as R7 and will easily outperform it... and it's been taped out almost as long as Navi10 has. So it is coming this year...

Both the 5800 series and the ultra-powerful 5900 Series are both coming before nvidia can release their first 7nm GPU. AMD is about to drop a Zen2 on Nvidia.

Back to the OP's question though. I don't see the AIB 5700XT's commanding 2070 Super prices for very long. They should fall back into the low $400's in a month or two.

Just stop, the more you post I swear more people buy green or blue just to spite.

RTX 2070S has extra features like RTX, so at the same price you'd have to be an AMD fanboy to choose their card.

But then quoting a source that also uses significant outliers in the opposite direction? There's a reason no one uses Ace Combat 7.

I'm building a secondary rig, and I went with the 5700 XT (coming in a few days). While the performance does go to Nvidia (I love my RTX 2080 TI), Ray Tracing isn't something I need nor been impressed with, and I'm saving some money.

Having 21 games in the list blunts the effects of an outlier to a greater degree. You have a more fair alternative to suggest?

One outlier in a set of 12 isnt any worse than 2 out.of 21. Should techspot be using Forza when it shows a 5700xt nearly matching a 2080ti? No, not without showing the other extreme.

Should TPU be using two titles showing a 1070ti being better than a 5700xt without the other extreme? Again no.

One source has an 8% outlier base. The other is almost 10%. Ace Combat 7 isnt the only one. Just the worst one. Barely.

Damn hard to find some kind of neutral review, certainly hard to find agreement about what it might even look like.

I think you are going to be quite impressed with the 5700XT. :) I do hope you are going to be using it on a good Freesync monitor, that will make a huge difference. :)

Truth is, no one really cares one way or the other. If you are going to base your purchase exclusively off other peoples reviews, then check on as many as you can and go from there. Also, there are a few things that no review can ever cover and can only be determined by actually using them. Truth is, we do not even know what the OP decided, looks like another hit and run thread. :D

Why is this thread even alive when the premise is so absurd? The 2070S isn't equal in price to the 5700 XT. The 5700 series' competition is the 2060S.

price being equal 2020 Toyota Supra or 1984 Pontiac Reliant hur durrriuhh

Yeah, not sure why they came out so high honestly. The 5700 (not XT) AIB cards are going for about $9 over the reference designs, would hope the 5700XT AIB's start coming down to a reasonable price to actually be worth purchasing.

Not even close to a real comparison, but.. yeah. The AIB (non blower 5700XT's) are going for $419 while the 2070S is going for $499+. Not really sure why he thinks he can get a 2070S for the same price, but if it's the same price, then the 2070S.

I pretty much stick to Gamers Nexus, here is their 5700 XT review.

You will see stock and overclocked cards across multiple games at 1080/1440/4K, same if you were to watch their processor review. In short card is good and exchanges blows with the 2070S in some titles, but would not recommend a reference card. For that review you can look at either of the following...

Honestly what games do you play and are you going to use CEMU. Based on that you should know your answer.

Just stop, the more you post I swear more people buy green or blue just to spite.

Yeah... just stop with the truth or else..?

Also, People don't care what you buy dude, nor do I. As I already own an RTX2080 and it's not much faster than my Ti. What gives? There are only a few cheerleaders here and they are badly bruised by AMD. But even they are coming around to the facts. So don't bump ur head on this...

BUT.. AMD's brand new RDNA gaming architecture is better at gaming that Turing's RTX. This is a fact and when RDNA is scaled up... it will still be better at gaming.

Navi10 gave us a taste of RDNA @ 251mm^2...

And now we are about to get a taste of RDNA about the size of the discontinued Radeon 7. Remember, AMD's 1st 7nm GPU @ 331mm^2...? From there, One can speculate at how much gaming performance can be packed into 335mm^2 of navi space (+30% more die space)

RDNA is scalable and will be in everything. There isn't anything bad with it, so why are so many people here unable to even accept simple facts..? (Smart People playing dumb... going to write a book on it.)

I can decide for myself. I just look at the games I actually want to play like Witcher 3. Though even then it's a bit sketchy. One review had 2060S faster than 5700XT in W3, another had it the other way around. Then there is the apparently unthinkable that I actually do want to have Ray Tracing support if the cost isn't too great.

The issue is finding a neutral review is the contestant cherry picking of more favorable reviews by each side, to support their GPU choice.

Honestly what games do you play and are you going to use CEMU. Based on that you should know your answer.

What issues does CEMU have with GPUs?

You might also consider if you want to do a hackintosh, where an AMD GPU would typically work better, though that probably won't be easy with Navi until Apple starts using them.

Those two sentences are in direct conflict with each other.
As everyone would pay for what you are asking, but the simple truth is that the RTX don't support true unfettered ray-tracing. And if you bought the 2070S for performance as you suggested in your first sentence, then the seconds sentence is just hogwash...

If you posted facts that would be ok but you don't you cherry pic and post speculative eschewed points of views. That's called lying, let me paste the definition for you from Merriam Webster:
lie

noun (2)
\ ˈlī \
Definition of lie (Entry 4 of 6)

1a: an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker or writer to be untrue with intent to deceive
He told a lie to avoid punishment.
b: an untrue or inaccurate statement that may or may not be believed true by the speaker or writert
he lies we tell ourselves to feel better
historical records containing numerous lies
2: something that misleads or deceives.

You talk that it's all about facts but then say that when we get something that AMD hasn't even had a paper launch about we will know how great it is. Just makes you sound like a nutjob. You are the one and only member to your cult of AMD. I surely wouldn't drink anything you pass out. AMD is making some good products but they are good in certain situations. You rave on and on it really just makes the AMD products look worse when you misrepresent them as a good solution based on your opinion and not their tested performance.

I don't know what do you mean by unfethered, but RTX actually DOES support full raytracing acceleration as defined by DXR specs

That"s the same spec that AMD should support in ther RT implementation.

I tought CEMU supported vulkan

I don't know I don't use it. That's just what I read when I googled what it was. I assume that's what the other guy was talking about. It looks like it runs better in openGL mode versus Vulkan mode anyway as a 1060 will run circles around a RX580.

NVIDIA GPU: Runs as expected on most recent driver.
AMD GPU: Runs as expected on most recent driver
Intel GPU: Not officially supported. Heavy visual glitches.

Don't kill the messenger. I didn't even know what CEMU was until I googled it and then searched CEMU nvidia vs amd to see what the other guy was talking about. I saw a video of BotW running about twice as fast on a 1060 3GB as a RX 580 and it seemed to indicate better OpenGL support than for Vulkan. Maybe an older version?
