My video card will not display anything. The card lights up beautifully, but nothing. I swapped it out for a spare video card and everything works fine. Great.

I just opened an RMA with ASUS, and love to see I have to pay for shipping. Whatever; I'll deal with it.

My question is, what is the likely outcome going to be with this? Get back a refurb RX 480? Actual repair?

Thanks.

Same gpu worse case scenario.. rx 580 in the Best one.. after all they are the same gpu with better clocks

My last ASUS RMA went fine. I got a working GPU back, probably a refurb. S/N was different and it was not in retail packaging.

My last Asus RMA.

They told me it wasn't packaged properly, they couldn't find anything wrong, and then held on to my part until I agreed to pay return shipping. I got the same part back, packed in the exact same UPS box and packing material I had shipped it in they claimed was inadequate, with nothing fixed. Four weeks later.

Good luck.

Yeah, I've heard better RMA results than their motherboards, but not by MUCH.

Be sure to take pictures INCLUDING CARD SERIAL NUMBER and pack things correctly.

Great....I don't have the original packaging anymore. After 30 months I figured it would be fine. Are they going to give me crap if I pack it in a nice anti-static bag and about 4 inches of popcorn foam around it?

Fill the box with popcorn and don't forget the butter. :D:D:p:p

Take pictures of card, make sure it is packed in an anti-static bag and packaged well, take pictures of packaging, send via a method that includes tracking.

If you are lucky they will send a refurb and that will be that.

Some tips if things don't go well.

1. Don't take no for an answer, even when a rep tells you that have no manager and you can't talk to anyone else. You may need to call numerous times before getting to anyone useful.
2. If they are replacing your card with another model make sure it is not a downgrade. I had to fight with several people before they agreed to replace my card with an equivalent or better one instead of a slight downgrade.
3. Pay attention to your shipping costs. I had to ship my 5970 back so many times without it even getting looked at that if it was a $100 card I would have been upside down on it. Given the cost of used rx 480 or 580s, I would cut your losses if you need to ship it back more than once.
4. Asus doesn't do their own RMAs IIRC. They pay some cheap terrible company and your RMA luck pretty much hinges on what rando employee receives you card for RMA and what kind of day they are having. If all else fails politely take your issue to forums and social media. Eventually you will get an actual Asus rep who can swoop in and save you.

fwiw, double-boxing stuff can go a long way to avoid getting the "improperly packed" treatment.

card in an antistatic bag, wrapped in (preferably antistatic) bubblewrap, inside a snug-fitting box, that inside an appropriately-sized outer carton with plenty of peanuts (i'm old fashioned and prefer kraft paper- not newsprint- myself but some receivers don't like anything but peanuts) and at least 2" between the box and carton on every side. Better safe than sorry with returns.
sauce: managed shipping & receiving in both tech and "import goods" (porcelainware and such)

Sound"s like you may need to bite the bullet and buy a card instead tums and high blood pressure medicine.

buy it or at least pay for the shipping on a credit card(a real one with line of credit). claim fraud if you dont get the response you need. the credit card company will crucify them. ive done this with warranty returns on other items.

After I received my RMA they offered to sell me a shipping label for $15. I'm in Ohio and it's only going 1 state over to Indiana. I know I can ship it cheaper, but I'm thinking it may be worth it to ship it "their way".
