Anyone using a 55" display for primary monitor?

Have some room and thinking of picking up a used Samsung 55" 4K for my primary monitor. There's a Samsung 55" UN55JU6700F (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55JU6700-Curved-55-Inch-Ultra/dp/B00T48CVV0 ) posted locally on FB Marketplace for $275, right about the max I'm willing to go. It is a few years old but as long as it works that's fine.

Plan to put it on a big table that I use for a desk. I'll use it primarily for some work stuff and movie watching. That much screen space should allow me to multi-task pretty easily. Not really looking to game on it (have another PC with my beloved X34 for that). It is curved but since it is intended for just me to use (i.e. won't double as family movie TV) I don't think that should be a problem either.

Wondering if anyone else has gone this big for everyday use, and if you have any suggestions for this or other possible monitors of similar size?

Been 55" for quite a few years now. Went ultra wide for a little while and hated loosing the top half of my screen. I am right at about 3 feet back if sitting up straight in the chair so leaning back a little its another 4 or 5 inches. I have no problems with seeing the whole screen and rarely actually tilt my neck. I've seen 2 ft back setups and would not be able to deal with the size that close.

48" Samsung JS9000 here for couple of years. Love it.

55" OLED here but will be swapping it out if/when LG ever releases their 48" version. It's perfectly usable, but I prefer 43"-48".

I have a 48" Samsung JS9000 that I'm not using, but shipping likely wouldn't be worth it.

You can make the 55 inch work as a computer monitor (I have the LG 55 inch C7) but it only makes sense if you cannot get a smaller size for the technology you want. Something around 40-45 inch is the max perfect size for a monitor.

Why does it only make sense if I can't a smaller monitor? Doesn't it kind of depend on how far away I'm sitting?

Personally I have one hangup with larger monitors.

Once i sit far enough away that I can take in the entire monitor without a lot of head motion (that sentence doesn't come off right) - then I start to lose clarity in text and I have to start really bumping up font sizes/scaling. I have crappy eyesight and I'm getting old, so probably the double whammy there.

It's fine for gaming where you don't have a lot of overlay/UI... but I primary play MMO and the UIs there can get busy, I don't like the chat box taking up 1/4 of the screen just do I can read it from 4'-6' back.

The converse of that - if I sit close enough so the text is reasonably sized and clear, then I have to move my head all over to be able to see all of the screen.

I would love to be able to hook my PC up to my LG OLED and use it productively.... I just haven't been able to get that happy medium to work out well enough.

Currently I use 2x27", and I sit about 2'6" away. I game or work on one monitor, web browser or other reference/utility on the other. The work flow has worked well for me to date, but it's not for everyone. I could probably go up to a 32" in my current desk/situation, but unless I dropped to one monitor I couldn't squeeze a 55" on the desk. Before the 27" I had a pair of 24" and honestly I can't tell much of a difference between the two sizes in my current config.

Got it. When I made the jump from 3x 1920x1080 to 3x 2560x1440 I had to move the monitors closer, and a "smaller" (28") 4K monitor was the same. Currently very happy with 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor for my gaming pc, but it isn't quite big enough for work/movies. Since I have the room I thought a larger (55") 4K might serve that purpose for my work setup.

I feel like the 49” I use is too big, but it has exceptional PQ, 120hz up to 2880. I will be switching to a 43” as soon as one emerges with fald and 120h. I have a very large desk Nd can move the display pretty far away but 49 is still a little too large for me personally. YMMV.
