big software optimizations for Apex Legends, Battlefield V, Forza Horizon 4, Strange Brigade and World War Z, which increase framerates by up to 23%...also included are several new beta features based on feedback and requests from our community -- an Ultra-Low Latency mode for faster input response, an Integer Scaling display mode for pixel art games, and a new GeForce Experience Freestyle sharpen filter

lastly, our new driver brings support for 3 new G-SYNC Compatible gaming monitors, and day-0 game support for Remnant: From The Ashes...

Holy fuckin' shit. This really comes out of the blue and they finally after years of pleading offer integer scaling! It's a load of nonsense that it only works on new 20 and 16 series GPUs though.

EDIT: It does seem that it uses some hardware only found on Turing cards but it should still be a very minor performance issue if done in software on older GPUs. It is after all mostly useful for scaling 1080p to 4K or scaling emulator games.

Did they find some magic sauce for DirectX 12 like they did years ago for DX11? Pretty impressive performance improvements for a driver update if personal experiences can back it up.

EDIT: Looking through the notes, this version now includes 10-bit color support in non-DirectX applications which was added in the last Creator Driver. The G-SYNC Compatible list is also expanding nicely.

Any improvements for last gen cards or is this only for the current series?

Word is you have to install GeForce experience. No uncheck box. I just updated last night (of course) and these weren't out yet.

There is a post on the forum saying this was an issue with one of the installation files. You can still uninstall GFE after installing the driver package.

The implementation for integer scaling is less than ideal. Instead of a per game option it's one of the scaling options for the display like aspect ratio, full screen etc. I tried it briefly going 1280x720 to 2560x1440p and it definitely gave good results. For non-integer resolutions it uses 1:1 scaling. Why can't this be just a toggle box for "use integer scaling when possible"?

In the driver release notes it states that it's currently in beta.

404 on the UK drivers it seems:

And apparently Geforce experience is now force installed?

No GDPR Consent and forced GeForce Experience Install

The driver installer, however, is messed up once again, as NVIDIA did not impose any GDPR concent, and even worse it is forcefully installing GeForce Experience now. The option to not install is greyed out. Please be aware of this fact prior to installation okay?

*edit*, oh ok

When I installed it this morning I noticed it force fisted GFE. I was like WTF Chuck? Uninstalled GFE. So no major harm done beyond being a little miffed.

Yeah, but it 'touched' your install. Didn't just look, but it fully touched.

Re-image time...

I'll wait for the re-release in a few hours...

*cue nvidia phone calls to MS to speed track WHQL real quick...*

Seems as if they are trying to make the 2000 series better due to the lacking of cost to features ratio, but also segmenting the hardware more while removing some such as the 30bit color from high end only to all cards. Also, why is there now such an increase with Division 2 performance when it should have been a focus at release as with most released drivers; and also why the utter lack of fixing DX12 when it has been an issue since Div 1!?! It doesn't matter anymore the game is boring now, and by the time it is fixed there may be a reason to play it again......

Freestyle now remembers your settings, in the past it forgot them if you rebooted. Conan Exiles screenshot with 75% sharpening, 1440p on a 4k monitor.

thank goodness the forced GFE was just a bug...any Pascal users try this driver?...performance results?

what should Low Latency mode be set to now for optimal performance- Off, On or Ultra (not for competitive gaming, just regular ole gaming)?

I tested Ultra Low Latency in Sekiro and immediately noticed a difference. It is intended for games that have FPS caps below 100 or something. You can set it on a per-game basis.

so if a game regularly is under 100fps then I should enable Ultra?...does this apply to G-Sync monitors as well?

It will be fine on any game that you're GPU bound or it is engine capped at 60. If you're CPU bound on a game it will cause stutters.

reading some posts on other forums it looks like these new drivers aren't performing well for Pascal owners...so I'm going to stick with 430.86 for now...

Also, beware the download option for DCH is automatically enabled. You will have to select the option to get a non DCH driver if you so wish.

For performance: Off - which is the old default setting.

On or Ultra will reduce latency but also smoothness and can cause stuttering in some cases. You said "not for competitive gaming" so you should always keep it OFF, it makes a very small difference anyway (just look at the numbers they provided, it's extremely small)

On another note it's great to see integer scaling but kinda ridiculous that it's limited to the last gen of GPUs. Bit of a scummy move since it's not something that requires computing power or anything but it's not like the competition is any better on this regard so yawn.

I was looking online and a lot of people are saying to leave it 'On' (where Max Pre-rendered Frames= 1)…they're saying it's a good middle ground for all games with no performance penalty and could potentially help...but I'm with you in that I think Off is the optimal setting...plus I think that also lets the game decide how best to use it

what is considered 'competitive gaming'?...any multiplayer game like Battlefield or Call of Duty?...or is On/Ultra only meant for those competitive pro gamers who compete in tournaments and such?

To me, competitive gaming means that you care greatly about your own performance, as a player, more so than eye-candy, and so you want the highest stable framerate and the lowest latency.

The equivalent of the "ultra" option existed before but was removed for some reason. I personally did not like it as the stuttering I experienced with it greatly impacted my enjoyment of the games, more than the 5-10ms of input lag I would never notice in a blind test.

A setting of "1" was always the best compromise in my experience (in cases where I really cared about input lag) and it very often seems to be the default chosen by the devs anyway - which is why I think the "off" option makes the most sense (off is like setting it to "application controlled" previously). Some games might ask the drivers for more which is fine for the vast majority of players but it does objectively add latency. Even VR uses "1" and not "0" anyway.

edit: apparently I'm wrong about the "ultra" option existing before, I'm reading that setting pre-rendered frames to "0" never worked and was the same as "1", so I guess it is indeed a new feature - but what I said about smoothness & responsiveness still stands. Most people should not touch this setting.

Can someone explain why its dx9 and dx11 getting fixes. What happened to dx10 and 10.1?

considering there was only about 5 games that supported dx10 and those 5 games happen to also be the least optimized games to ever come out, no one cares.. also everything in dx10 are in dx11/12.

There were many more than 5...

I feel like there's a better answer than that. Thanks though.

Maybe since most dx10 games can fall back to dx9 or forward compatible with dx11, then they just don't care about dx10?

"Our new Low Latency Mode is being released in beta with support for all GPUs in DX9 and DX11 games (in DX12 and Vulkan titles, the game decides when to queue the frame)."

There are improvements to DX10 API calls in DX11, so if you're running Windows 7 or later I don't think there are really things to improve. As far as I know, whenever DX11 is mentioned in support documents it implicitly includes DX10 due to the forward compatibility.

Some things for DX9 broke in DX12, which is why there have been updates for it over the past couple years. I know some games in the list you linked to have actually removed DX10 in later patches, including Resident Evil 5.

You realize, of course, that DX12 development is 100% on the game developer? With DX9 and DX11 Nvidia sometimes collaborates with the game developer to fix and optimize things, yet with DX12 it is all on the game developer. Bitch at the game dev for not fixing their shitty DX12 engine/implementation.

I do not think you realize that it is a known issue with nVidia, not the developer. You can even look at the issues not resolved, and it is well known in the community. AMD does not have the issue, btw.

One outstanding issue with one game. Obviously indicative of a systemic issue with NVIDIA.

It has been a long outstanding issue, and I noted this to the developers during alpha/beta testing-including the fact that Div 1 was plagued by the issue too. It wasn't till there was so much noise with the release of Div 2 on the forums (Reddit and their own) that this was finally looked into. But with Div 1 there was also another nVidia problem with gren/red lines if using HFTS or PCSS shadows. Took a few drivers to fix the problem. Personally, this is the longest going issue I have ever experienced with drivers, and the previous mentioned is the second.

To note, it was confirmed in state of the game that it is indeed nVidia even though the highlights say "may not be their responsibility."

From the release highlights pg18 http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/436.02/436.02-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf:

It's on the game developer to fix the shit that they didn't implement correctly:

https://www.quora.com/How-do-game-developers-learn-to-program-DirectX-12

"The problem with all of this low-level access is that developers are given plenty of rope with which to hang themselves. They need to optimize properly for the underlying architectures, manage buffers and work queues appropriately, and distribute work across multiple CPU cores. And when something inevitably goes wrong, figuring out the root cause becomes more complex. To help developers, Nvidia announced new tools for software development that will all work with DX12: nSight, Nvidia Aftermath, and PIX for Windows."
