RIP Newegg, you weren't good lately anyway

I still shop there but I also live 10 mins from a Frys AND a Microcenter, so local tends to win out. Plus the Microcenter CPU/mobo deals are awesome. If prices are same or less on Amazon I go that route for Prime shipping.

Wow I just looked at my order history and I haven't bought anything from Newegg since last Oct (some case fans that STILL haven't been installed)

Only time I buy from newegg is if there is a great deal on their eBay storefront.

I grabbed a brand new Asus Formula XI Z390 for 240.00 after instant discount and ebay bucks.

Unfortunately, Newegg is about my only option in Orlando. I am stuck with Best Buy if I need something immediately.

What about TigerDirect? I ordered my entire 4790k rig from them in 2014 and it shipped from Florida. Haven't checked them out in quite some years though... Unless you mean you use newegg for in store pickup, they used to offer that in Edison, NJ, but I believe it was stopped.

Newegg is complete trash now with the marketplace. My dad ordered an SLI bridge from "them" and it never came, that's when we learned Newegg wasn't Newegg anymore.

Another nail in the coffin - they've closed two Will Call locations in Indiana and New Jersey. The California location is going to close real soon. I used to live 10 minutes away from one and it was really convenient to pick up a bulky stuff like a monitor or a computer case there. Not anymore. Hopefully Amazon would do the opposite and open a pick up location nearby, it seems like they've built a bunch of warehouses around.

I used to order thousands of dollars every year from Newegg. As time went on, I ordered less and less from them until they opened will call here in Indiana. I didn't order a TON from them, but I did use their will call quite a few times. When they closed that, I decided I was done with them. They would have to have an exceptional deal for me even consider ordering from them. I don't really understand why they eliminated will call - it couldn't have cost them that much (if any) extra to do.

Tigerdirect got bought out by PCM, and Newegg is owned by a Chinese company now... (Liason Interactive bought a majority stake, a bit over 55%). Amazon, well, just about everything on Amazon is Chinese or from a Chinese seller. Not saying it's good or bad, just an observation (generalized of course).

Does TigerDirect being bought out by PCM mean they are no good now or are they the same with new ownership? Newegg always had better deals but I never had issues with TigerDirect when I was a regular.

I don't like the chinese sellers from overseas simply due to the shipping, also they are prone to selling knockoffs even on amazon, as I learned with the hilariously bad QCK mousepad I ordered a while back. I did buy some cheap Delta AFB series fans from an asian seller, they took a month to arrive but work fine... You never know.

I used to buy from Tiger Direct when I needed a part immediately for a repair or a good deal when they had two local stores. I stopped using them when they closed the two Orlando stores. I always had a tough time finding what I am looking for on Amazon and they did not have as good of deals as Newegg most of the time. Outside of Best Buy (Bleah), I have only seen a couple local computer repairs/stores in Orlando in the past few years. I am not even sure if Computer Warehouse (businesses and resellers only) is still around.

I had no idea that Newegg went Chinese. Fuck 'em. I'll never buy from that company again.

One thing I think, missed here was, Tigerdirect is dead... The tigerdirect that exists now has no real link to the old tigerdirect as far as I know. They liqudated everything shut down the site, than re-launched under new ownership same as compusa and circuit city(same company). Newegg on the other hand was just bought, it never ceased operations just changed ownership. I think Frys and Microcenter are the only real computer chains left, and those are really tied to where you live.

Honestly with how shitty their serach is for computer parts and the load of 3rd party sellers on Amazon it such a pita to build a computer using them.

This isn't hard to overcome and it's VASTLY better than Best Buy, which is what the comment I was replying to.

Newegg is Amazon’s best search engine - search for parts on Newegg and then paste part numbers in Amazon search.

Newegg powersearch is the shit. No doubt about it. I do the same damn thing.

I grew up in LA with Fry's earlier on in Manhatten Beach and then later in Burbank. (they are now reportedly going to start closing stores.) Then I went to college in Miami so I was exposed to Tigerdirect, I was honestly never impressed with them. I've lived in the Dallas area for over a decade now, and Microcenter has only gotten better and better. So happy to be near one.

Jealous, lol. Closest microcenter is 3+ hours... In store only sales are great, but I have no reasonable access to your store.

A little less than two weeks ago I took a trip to Microcenter (about 2 hour one way) to get a new motherboard, CPU and RAM since my ancient socket 775 motherboard died. Even counting gas and very high sales tax where the Microcenter was located I still saved quite a bit of money on those items making that trip. My son also made out well as he ended up buying the same motherboard, CPU and RAM combo and built his first system from that trip as well.

I haven't bought anything at all from newegg in years. Once they were bought out that was enough for me to stop buying there and the company was already going downhill regarding prices and service before the buyout.

Newegg or Amazon, whichever is cheaper. Best Buy for emergencies thanks to them price matching Newegg/Amazon. Living in the midwest means no Microcenter.

I live in the Midwest and just visited a Microcenter.

Unfortunately there are none located in Iowa. The state could be too rural for them to invest here. I could see Cedar Rapids or Des Moines getting stores, but that's a 1-2 hour drive from where I live.

If only everybody had a Microcenter "1-2 hours drive" away from them. I'd happily take a 1-2 hour road trip for computer parts. :(

Yeah, closest one to me is about 3.5 hours each way, that's with no traffic... Which is almost never. So, more like 4+ hours each way.

Yeah, I've got one within that range, but it's in Illinois. Between the gas, tolls, and sales tax, it doesn't make any sense to shop there.

It's sad, I know a few people from Illinois and that lament how the city of Chicago is ruining the whole state.

I havent seen any drop off in Newegg over the years. If your upset about the chinese getting your money, best stop buying computer parts. This store that store, its all silliness. The internet is my store, I look for the best deal. Newegg still usually has the best deal.

No more Yay for Texas after this month. This is what I get now if I go to Newegg's site:

So for me, there is no advantage that Newegg has over Amazon or Microcenter. Bye Newegg, it was fun.

Living in Chicago is awesome. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I go to Microcenter fairly often. I've been fortunate in that I could go to the one in Cincinnati when I lived just across the river in Kentucky and now I have the one even closer to me in Chicago. I don't think I've used Newegg in years.

When I lived in Raleigh, NC I went to the Tiger Direct there. They may not have had the deals MC has, but their prices were decent and it was faster than getting stuff shipped. I think they're gone now though.

I bought something from newegg a ways back. A older NOS CPU. from there eBay store.
The canceled the sale, I called them up and they told my address was fake. Yeah I been living here for 20 years so yeah fake address. About 5 minutes after they canceled the sale they updded the price on the CPU by about 20$
Talk about saddy.
Oh and on top of that they say mt address has been black listed so I can't buy anything from them now. Not that I want too.

This is indeed sad. I lost my proximity to a well stocked Microcenter due to divorce so Newegg was what I assu7med I'd be using now. Guess not in light of this.
Damn man, she got the Microcenter in the divorce?

Fucking divorce court screwing dudes again.

i shop at microcenter every now and then, its only 5 hours and 49 minutes 1 way from my house. good deals though, totally worth the trip.
