XBOX ONE X folks, check in here!

Welp, I officially ran out of space on my 6TB external when attempting to preload Resident Evil 2 last night. I need to find and uninstall all the Game Pass crap I've installed. Going to be cancelling Game Pass as I'm just no longer getting any use out of it.

Damn, lmao! How many games are you guys actually installing and playing !!???

I’m on my original 1TB 1X. I have like 150+ games over a 10 year span but I only have like 5 installed right now.

I have 275 games installed as of this morning. I've installed a lot of stuff from Game Pass because I had a passing interest in trying them, but I have not been playing any of them. About a dozen of those 275 are also backward compatible games that I already owned. I think I've completely played through 30-40 of that 275 and have played some of another 50 or so. Bottom line is I'm not disciplined at all with game installs on my consoles in contrast to keeping things clean on my PC.

Weird question for anyone stuck using Comcast. Are you able to choose 4K resolution on your cable box (XG1v4 model) when routing it through the Xbox One? Mine simply won't do it. When I go directly to my TV or AVR it's there, but something about the Xbox One seems to cap it at 1080p for me. Not the end of the world, but it would make a couple things more convenient if it worked correctly.

The Xbox One X does not support 4K using HDMI pass through.

Are there any 4K channels available for TV via Comcast? As far as I'm aware no channels have actually switched to 4K at this point. Could be wrong though as I use antenna for live TV, and that wont support 4K until the ATSC 3.0 standard is deployed over the next few years. If there aren't actually any 4K channels available then it might not even be an issue to be concerned about.

There aren't. Well, not really. There are on-demand versions of the Olympics and World Cup in 4K, but that's it. The main reason I wanted it was for Netflix and Amazon Prime video. Both of those ARE in 4K/HDR and Comcast now has their offerings in the menu. If your box is setup to display 4K/HDR and "Expert" audio they'll come over just like in their native apps. I was kinda hoping to unify all of my options via a single delivery method (and 1 remote), but it looks like that's not in the cards.

The Xbox One X versions of the Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps both support UHD streaming. I also think the smart TV app versions support it on any TV made after 2014.

They do. It's a minor nitpick, but I kinda like how on the Comcast box you can see all of your options on a single list and you can select all of them with your remote rather than a controller. Most of the time I don't use my Xbox controller. I just use my TV remote since the Xbox powers on and defaults to my OneGuide.

I could just plug the cable box into my AVR directly, but that brings a whole new set of issues. When you use the Xbox One passthrough, it unifies the other device’s audio volume and color space.

By default, my cable box wants a limited RGB color space and unique color values. However, when you route it through the Xbox, it looks perfect with Full RGB and my existing settings. Having a single oddball in limited RGB also screws with my 1-button toggle for HDR and gaming modes. My TV only has two 1-button toggles and they’re already being used.

For audio, the cable box volume is extremely low. Like 50% lower than everything else. Surround channels only use one set of my surround speakers, too. The Xbox boosts the volume to the same levels as everything else and it uses my side speakers for surround channels rather than my rear ones. It makes a huge difference for the way my room is set up.

Are there any controllers worth while? Or should I just stick with the controller that came with my OneX?

I wish it was bigger. And these aftermarket controllers with buttons on the back sounds interesting.

I haven't found any 3rd party controllers that are any better than the stock one. I generally think it's pretty great with one exception - the bumpers are fragile. They're being held in place by 2 little tiny plastic protrusions. If you're mashing them with some level of force regularly, you'll probably end up breaking one at some point. Once that little piece breaks, the bumper only works about 1/2 the time.
Even the $150 Elite controller (which has the back triggers) still has the same issue. I have a buddy who broke his after a couple months and MS just shrugged about it.

Elite controller is the best, in my opinion. It has slightly wider haunches that my hands find more pleasing than the regular controllers. I also like the heavier weight and extra buttons. I purchased mine brand new in 2015 and never had any issues with it. If you read about the rubber grips coming off, just wash your hands with regularity and don't eat around them and you'll be fine. I wash my hands before I handle my controllers every time, but I'm OCD. You don't have to do that, but it can help.

I haven't had that problem with any of the One controllers I've had so far. I've had several Xbox 360 controllers where the bumper would just casually break, though, even though I wouldn't mash them. It isn't that puzzling that Microsoft doesn't fix it, though, as I'm sure the profit margin on controllers is pretty high.

Have you looked into using a harmony remote? They are full programmable, and support input to the Xbox One via it's IR receiver. When we watch Blu-rays, we use the Xbox and control it with our harmony remote. The Harmony also controls every device we have. Most of them also allow for one button configuration, for example pressing the watch TV button will turn on our NVIDIA Shield, TV, and sound bar, and then configure all of the inputs accordingly. One of the best purchases I ever made regarding home theater. I'll put a link to the one we bought below.

I have an older model Harmony right now. It's good for toggling the different inputs on my AVR, my two TV color schemes, along with my cable box. Plus it'll power everyone on at once like you mention.
Mine will control some features on the Xbox, but not all of them. For instance, it won't toggle between the different apps (like OneGuide toggling to Netflix).
I figure that once it dies I'll get a newer one.

Order this

Going to see how that case/grip works. If not maybe entertain the idea of a used elite controller or the wired :spitoutdummy: Razer Wolverine

+1 for the Elite Controller. I can't go back.

Checkin' in... Just got an XB 1 X.

Found a Refurbed "Grade A" on ebay for $320 with 20% coupon = $256 and I had $98 ebay bucks from last 2Q2019 to spend, so that put me at $158 OTD.

Waiting for my wife/son to get home from vacation so I can show him. Already picked up various games from gamestops 3*9.99 for $15 sale as well as dropped $20 on the marvel lego 3 pack with all DC & Monster Hunter.

I don't have xbox live gold yet, but I suppose I'd get it if I could play Monster Hunter with someone. Any of you guys play?

Nice, helluva deal you got yourself there.

Great console, especially when mated to a nice 4K HDR TV with high refresh rate.

Xbox live Gold is a must. 100%. 4 free games per month and being able to play online on games that allow it are great. And if you look online at slickdeals.net or various other sites, you’ll usually find a year of XBL for only $35-$39 instead of the $60 a year straight through the console

I don’t play monster hunter though

Problem is I don't really know anyone that has an XB1. Most people my age have moved away from video games :( So unless I play with someone from [H] I'll mostly just be playing by myself & my 7-year old son. I was under the impression the "4 free games" are only yours as long as you stay subscribed & not valid anymore if my subscription expires. Is that actually true? that is what I've read at least.

Also my tv doesn't support HDR :(

I'd check out game pass if you're new to Xbox. There's a pretty decent library of games to choose from and they release first party day 1 exclusives on there as well.

Agreed. Seems like a really good option for a new owner.

Yes, unfortunately true. If your Xbox live subscription fails to renew, that game library is not playable from Games With Gold. Kinda sucks but not for me because I’ve been paying for XBL since it started years ago and I will continue to pay because it’s totally worth it for me. I don’t know many people at my age either but online competitive gaming is fun regardless.

And Game pass as someone else mentioned is also an amazing deal

I'm also not sure if game pass would be the best fo rme. There are some months I might play less than 10 hours total. I figure the 10-15 games I have will probably last me quite a while :). Library is 2.5 miles away and has like 100 xbox 1 games I can borrow for free :)

I'm not much in the competitive scene as I just don't have time to "get gud"

Weird....I was toying around with the TV settings and I found An HDR mode but didn't work with Game mode until I set it to input 1! Now I have all green check marks in my system settings -> display when it comes to HDR. Whoo!

Most televisions are like this, with full HDMI 2.0b features only being available on one input. What TV do you have?

It's a Samsung 65" 4k, but one of the "lower end" models....6270 ? 6290 ? I don't remember exactly...

With that being said, I don't understand why it has to be so complicated. Is it that expensive to put that mode on every input? I long for the days when you screw coax in on the back (only one spot) and then tune to either channel 3 or 4...

My friends want me to buy one as they dont play pc. I am thinking about it. Anyone know the best deal I can get one a Xbox One X right now?

Lowest price new would be probably finding a Fallout 76 bundle that would be $399.99 or less through something like Buydig via Google Express.

Value wise I think Best Buy and maybe some other retailers too were offering a second controller, digital copy of Halo 5 and digital copy of Madden 20 with certain of the $499.99 bundles.

I had a 43" Samsung 4K curved TV that I got with my PS4 Pro, so I decided to use it as my PC monitor too. I quickly realized that only HDMI 1 was a 2.0 port and could do 4k60 with HDR and 4:4:4 for my PC. So I either had to get a HDMI 2.0 switch (which were pretty expensive at $60+ I think) or just swap out HDMI cables between my PC and PS4 Pro. I was pretty annoyed about that as well and just ended up putting the PS4 on another input since HDR on that TV was a gimmick anyways.

I still have a 49" Samsung UN49KU6500 that does full frame dimming, and I agree it is not worth it. You actually lose contrast and color definition when it's being used. I wouldn't bother with HDR unless your display is OLED or has FALD.

$249 , and if you have 10% ebay bucks available to you it becomes $225

I am debating grabbing an Xbox One X, as well. I would like something to replace my out of date Roku 2 for media consumption, and the backwards compatibility would let me replace the Xbox 360 as well.
With the new Xbox release getting closer and closer, I would not want to spend too much on something that would be out of date soon. That said, I have concerns on grabbing one on ebay. Has everyone had good experiences buying one off ebay? Is it better to go with refurb, used, or open box? Even with refurbished, I see seller refurbished as well as manufacturer refurbished I have seen some ebay auctions specifically mention the unit has trouble reading some disks, but I cannot tell if this is a potential "watchout" when buying a used Xbox or the user scratched up the disks.

My understanding is Microsoft wants to try very hard to make future consoles backwards compatible with what already plays on the Xbox One. So while they probably won’t be adding any new Xbox/360 games to the BC list, going forward your games should work.

If you are still really concerned, maybe pickup an S that’ll be cheaper whether new or used. That way you still get 4K media abilities even if the games aren’t. I’m still rocking an original Xbox One 1TB. I thought about an X but it’s connected to a 1080p set so I’ve stayed on the fence about it.

Can’t speak to buying used as all my current gen stuff was bought new. Even my last gen stuff outside of the Wii/U has been bought new.

I bought mine from VIPOUTLET & it was like new. Couldn't find a fingerprint on it, seriously...
Ebay has pretty good buyer protection & I think you can probably buy a squaretrade warranty as well if you are worried. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ended up getting the Xbox One X Fallout 76 bundle over the weekend. I am enjoying being able to play TV through the Xbox. I am debating connecting an Amazon Tap I have to it in order to have voice controls. Maybe it is because it is new to me (havent actually used the old 360 for quite a while beyond sticking in a game and going, but the UI seems rather confusing at first.

It's not just you. The UI is garbage. They prioritize ads over usefulness. The console settings section is probably the only area where the menus are actually usable.

I feel like the Xbox UI has steadily gotten worse since the day the 360 launched. The day 1 Xbox tabs were absolutely fantastic. Everything had its own obvious tab, they were quick, and they were all accessible at any time. 14 years later it's tough to find almost anything in the various cluttered Xbox One menus. Everything wants to operate as a separate "app" instead of being part of a streamlined core UI. Either that or they just want to get you to their store at all costs.
Like Armenius mentions, the settings menu is probably the one section they did a good job with.

As far as watching TV goes, I just use my cable box's navigation. The OneGuide stuff is no better/faster. One really nice thing about running your TV through the Xbox is that it borrows your color/settings config, though. That's the only reason I do it. By default my cable box's color/audio settings are horrendous. When running them through my Xbox, they're configured precisely and the audio even outputs pretty nice sounding faux-Atmos.

That's one of the worst parts is the lag and crashing. Sometimes pages won't even load. It's not as bad as the PS4 these days, admittedly, but it makes me not want to browse and "discover" things like the design is supposedly supposed to do.

Blades was easily the best Xbox UI design and yeah it’s gotten worse over time. To be honest PlayStation has gotten bad too. I liked the simple XMB menus on it too.
