No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

Looks like the update is 4.8GB. It just showed up as queued in my Steam client so I went ahead and kicked `er off.

What say you modi123? Are you going back in for another round? Really enjoyed your posts in this thread!
Oh lord.. A third tour? I may help to ween of Destiny 2. I am not even sure if my 'spunky explorer class A ship "Chaffed Nuts" ' is even there or I'll start all over again. I vaguely remember a base being built but then I put it down.

Yeah I'm trying to think what else would even compare in terms of digging out of as deep a hole as they have.

Most developers would typically be forced financially to put a poorly received title behind them as quickly as possible, and then attempt to right all of its wrongs in a sequel.
Well they aren't back by a high corporation like EA that only cares about money.

Stunning update. https://www.nomanssky.com/2019/08/no-mans-sky-beyond-release/

I'm just messing around with it so far and seeing the differences. HDR looks pretty nice, too. ;)

For my own memory I think this deserves crown for: The Cinderella come back story of all time in the history of videogames.

Can you screenshot a random ship inventory for us? I'm wondering since inventory and slots have been rehauled that all ships would have the same slot counts.

Inventory stack cap on suit before patch - 250
Inventory stack cap on suit post patch - 10,000

Lol! Slight bump.

This is EXCELLENT news. I think they finally realized what type of people play this. They're REALLY starting to know their audience. IMO, and yes, there are probably plenty of different types of players into this game, but I think the bulk are the builder/explorer types. People who like games like Lego, Minecraft, Starbound, Terraria, etc. rather than say Wing Commander players. (though I think all of this overlaps of course) People used to the sorts of games I mentioned are used to having TONs of inventory stack-space, and being able to build without being held back by the sorts of physics and limits that a story based Space Sim or combat type of game would focus on. There's room for all of the above, but lightening up these restrictions will really help the people that want to explore and build. Good move I think.

The VR stuff on PC is spotty at best apparently. On WMR setups it seems to not work at all due to controller issues. I tried it with mine, it came up with this odd binding screen overtop Steam VR I never saw before, but looked generic. I tried to set it up, the game starts to load, then just quits out. I didn't get a chance to try it without controllers but I'm told that would work for now. Users of other headset types are reporting issues as well. Oh well, another 1.0 release from Hello Games. ^^

so its becoming a minecraft style game with like unlimited resource slots?
I'll have to load it back up. there was still plenty to do in mine

Did they fix the bullshit alien vocabulary system? I played for 30 hours before and I still don't understand shit.

Performance seems to have improved with Vulken, getting about 20% higher framerate since I last played, getting around 65-85fps at 4K with a 2080Ti/6700k. I believe last time I played I got around 50-60FPS.

No Man's Sky Beyond launched today and unfortunately also brought a few bugs and glitches with it...some of the issues are pretty serious...players have especially been reporting a lot of crashes, most notably while entering The Nexus, the brand new player hub where astronauts can hang out, socialize, and crew up for multiplayer missions...VR is proving a bit spotty as well for a number of players, particularly on the Valve Index...multiple people have reported that they can't see one of their hands while in VR, and some have said they've been experiencing laggy performance...

Been playing the last 3 hours. Haven't crashed once.

Hope the "few" players whom are experiencing this can get it resolved soon, as this update is fabulous.

You mean you didn't like the idea of going to a bunch of ruined stones scattered around a bunch of different planets, activating them to only learn a single word per ruin. :ROFLMAO:

I haven't started the game yet but let gog galaxy update it. I kind of gave up on the game because after a while I just couldn't deal with the tediousness of it. That inventory bump sounds like it'll help in one area but also make it a big pain to sort through unless they can group things by category or hell how about alphabetically lol.

The inventory bump alone sounds amazing. It also appears you can remove components from tools now?

^ interesting. I was on the beta Vulkan install. The patch was 6.2Gb for me. No issues seen on a new game — did not launch my saves— for about 2-3 hours of playing.

Uninstall/reinstall or do the file integrity check via steam yet?

There are some issues being reported certainly but so far so good here.

all files check out fine via steam, I renamed my saved game folder, reran, same, so it isn't corrupt saved game data. guess next step is to nuke everything.

EDIT:
delete and reinstall = no change

I mean, if you learned like a dozen words per ruin, it wouldn't be nearly as bad. But with like 2000+ words, one per ruin is pretty ridiculous.

Supposedly, they made some "inventory QoL changes" but the patch notes were pretty vague on that.

I didn't get a chance to try it last night, but I did reinstall the game so hopefully tonight I can give it a go.

Well, the good news is that pretty mucy every alien you encounter will help you with learning new dialect now. This new method significantly speeds up the process.

And there's essentially a good 15 to 20 aliens minimum at every space station, 6 to 10 at every trading outpost now.

And while it still seems a bit tedious to go to every alien to learn new words, it's not only faster than finding some ruin, but you can pick which type of words you want to learn from the aliens as well.

Trading, battle, symbols, etc..

Inventory as you said has been completely rehauled.

Not everything stacks to 10k, but the stuff you need to, does.

Ammo now stacks at 5k which is insane.

50 ferrite dust creates 1250 rounds. Lol! Super cheap.

They've seemed to have changed flight controls a bit with mouse and keyboard. It's not amazing, but it's definitely better now.

One thing I've noticed was that sentinels aren't as abundant, not even a 10th of what they were before.
The planet I was on before the patch you couldn't even farm carbon for 5 seconds before getting scanned. Now? I haven't had one encounter in the open.

Tutorials have been revised too. Anyone who is new to the game will easily find out how to do things, and they've even added additional assistance to how to create the items you need. (Open inventory slots now get highlighted to craft the item that is on your current objective. Additional details on what items are needed to craft to building a refiner, etc are easily displayed in front of you).

Haven't played for about a few months, but it seems high loot items such as uncommon, rare and legendary salvaged materials dug into the ground are everywhere now. From 300k to 2.8 million unit values. A great way to make some serious cash as a starting player. I don't remember this before the patch, someone please correct me if this isn't new.

Inventory UI has been way enhanced. They've added tab pages for each equipment piece.(Exosuit has now inventory, tech and cargo tabs, same with your ship). It's a small change but a much needed one for navigating through your on hand stuff.

Multiplayer seems to be bugged. I tried to go to the new hubs and nobody was there. And when someone did show up, the player and I both summoned our freighters nearby and we both couldn't see the others. I ended up crashing into his but it was blank space on my screen.

To be honest, if they're going to have 32 players cooping at any given time, the way to join these lobbies needs to be less of a grind. From what I know, the only way to get to these community hubs is by warping to an anomaly.

Should be a queue or an instant portal to it from your base at least. Maybe there is, but I haven't seen it yet.

They've added base generators now - these are quite annoying to put up at first. You can't even open your storage containers without having your generators and wiring set up to them. Kind of annoying, but I get what they're doing. With the new high inventory stacks, it shouldn't be too tedious to keep your base powered when you log. It's no where near as bad as say Ark Survival, but it does require you to check on the resources left every once in a while.

Aliens at Space Stations now come outside of their ship when docked. It's more immersive this way, but of course they're still selling over priced bull shit.

Comets/asteroids have been revamped. New ice looking rocks added to the mix. The game now has resources that come in forms of clusters in small increments when mining(on planets too). Basically a 40/50 to 1 ratio of the resource that you've obtained. Simply hold E on that cluster and you've got yourself a lot more of that resource.

That's about all I've done so far.

Aww. That blows. Hopefully you get it sorted soon.

Welp.... updatting graphic drives solved the problem. BUT.... saved games were completely wiped out. I think when I had temporarily renamed the saved game files or uninstalled the game, caused the new NMS to wipe them. And I don't cloud either so... LOL

I fired the game back up. a lot of the mechanics are quite a bit better. its a pretty good game if you like the whole scavenge/build/research/upgrade cycle.

Some things are a lot better, like you can move your mods around. Other things are still annoying, like there still is no build sub-items process. The increased inventory size also only applies to resources. Other stuff is still going to eat the slots. good times. :)

Hm...So far I dunno. Played for a bit, didn't seem tremendously better to me. You still end up with a bunch of items that only stack 5 or so which is super annoying.

Also, it seems like all of my freighter cargo containers just vanished? I can't even figure out how to check the controls in the game to see how to get into build mode again and figure out what is going on there.

The Anomaly is just a clusterfuck of other players running around and chatting shit.

Performance seems to have taken a dump for me for some reason, and there seem to be a ton of flickering textures and graphical glitches.

Not really impressing me too much, but I'll keep going.

Anomaly is where you can also upgrade/unlock the best stuff in the game. Plus you can get a ton of nanites and rare items from doing pretty simple quests with players.

Had my first crash post update. After 6 to 7 hours of gameplay and during joining a galaxy with 3 others from the Anomaly.

Logged in again and started back at the anomaly again and crashed shortly after.

Maybe the servers are overloaded, I didn't have that issue earlier.

It was inevitable something this huge would create some temporary new issues and bugs. Let the smoke clear for a little bit before jumping in.

trading is much easier now. a resource scanner, a couple of hyperspace mods and that is all you need to max your suit and learn a bunch of words. the planets now show their advancement level so it is easy to stick to the 3 star ones. Learn the rotation (or have an image) and you are good to go. I think it is red battery orange pickaxe yellow gears blue chip. Expand suit, talk, sell loot, make fuel if you need it, buy loot, repeat.

There was a small patch but the bugs are still prevalent.

After putting a few more hours into it, I just don't think it's for me. The inventory management is still shit with all of the crafted items you have to carry around, given that you can still only hold 5 or so in a stack.

Missions are incredibly tedious and time-consuming for very little reward. My objectives are completely bugged, I am unable to complete any of the base helper stuff because it just says "talk to so and so" and when I talk to them, nothing ever happens.

Apparently freighter crates are an "advanced" item that you have to unlock now, so all of my crates from previous seem to just be completely gone, along with whatever I had in them.

Performance is still really bad, seems worse than ever for whatever reason.

I think I'll probably give VR a try and then shelf it again. I spent at least 3 hours and still feel like I made zero progress.

I don't disagree with a lot of your criticisms but the thing I learned a while back is: Focus on what you want to do. When a certain moods hits for me, this game just works.

I would definitely wait until the smoke clears after such a huge update.

It sounds lame but for this game I've found for myself a little trainer use goes a LONG ways for certain "quality of life" preferences as well.

Don't' forget that NexusMods has a ton of things to fix or change how the game plays. I hate the circle menu (hold button to interact), so I grabbed one that turns it into a single click.

Yes. I also prefer the "black space" mod since orange colored skies and the like aren't doing it for me. Space needs to be black. It also makes other things easier to see and more distinct for me.

I picked the one that speeds selection. issue being the instant, if you click on someone you have to listen to 20 seconds of BS. This game really REALLY needs a a STFU (skip dialogue) mod.
