I think the problem is being exposed to good sound and most people aren't.
Its kind of like good baking can ruin all other baking type thing.
I'm not an audiophile or anything, but havibg known more decent sound... The you go back and hear all the shit, all the missing sounds, a lack of 'completeness' if I make any sense... Or you hear this 'inside a box' kind of thing.
And you don't forget!!
Cellphones are quickly becoming the center of music, and while cameras keep being upgraded to infinity, sound is neglected for the most part. Its a disgrace. Part of the problem is of course you need to connect it to the right/better stuff, so manufacturers assume nobody does and they are mostly right sadly.. chicken and egg type thing.

While its a fairly sacrilegious thought to those of us around here, smartphones and tablets have kind of removed the need for traditional computers for a lot of people.

Basically this. There are also space limitations to deal with inside of a phone. The only real way to get high quality audio with a cellphone is to carry around external portable solutions.

They are being logical... insideously logical. They know that they'll sell far more in accessories (dongles, BT headphones etc) than customers who will leave - especially considering there will literally be only one manufacturer left making phones with headphone jacks.

I have tried a multitude of phones with USB dongles. They are incredibly deficient compared to even the lowliest of phones with headphone jacks.

LG is the last glimmer of hope, and I use an LG v40 now with a Note 9. Their DAC and this wired audio performance is remarkably better than anything else out there.

It’s not so much a physically larger screen but higher pixel density and higher resolution.

Both of which are absent on their latest regular Note 10.

Again as some else mentioned the only real reason for ditching was a business case:
We have an entire division dedicated to bluetooth audio headphones and smart watches that really stays in the shadows of the industry big wigs like Bose or crapple. If we remove certain things onto other division like a headphone jack or say a HR monitor, we make our other products attractive to the end user.
 
So the big question is this:

How do you get great sound for your car unless using BT?

More battery volume, if you're actually playing audio does running the BT use more or less power than sending output to the audio jack? As for lighter, they're replacing a hole with battery, it's going to be a few grams heavier. Of course if instead of removing the jack to get more internal volume they just made the phone 0.1mm thicker instead no one would notice anything other than a higher number on the battery charts.

I don't have a source handy, but when Apple started the trend remember seeing an article showing the DACs used in most phones were - while not audiophile class - still well above what was in most 3rd party USB dongles or affordable BT headsets.

My biggest reasons to be unhappy with how things are going (and why I'll probably be buying an S10 sometime in the next few months - the last readily available in the US flagship class phone with a jack) are: 0) Dongles are garbage that intrinsically admits the produce they're used with is defective and feature incomplete. 1) Replacing headphones that will never need charged their entire lifespan with ones that only last a few hours is a strict downgrade, and would be even if comparing $2 walmarx specials against something that costs as much as a new car. 2) The proliferation of bluetooth beacons by corporate tracking/spyware/espionage cloaked as marketing scum have reduced BT to something I'll only ever enable by exception.

GPS / Waze comes to mind. If you're not plugged in that shit will devour your battery in no time. Plus I have to aux in my audio in my car... so yeah no headphone port, no buy for me.

I stopped buying Samsung product, any products be it phone, tv, monitors, etc. Because I had some really bad experience with their shit quality phones and tv's. And the whole fire battery shitstorm.

Never again will I ever buy another samsung product, and it would be good news it they just went out of business.
 
There was a time when Samsung made some quality stuff. But now it's all about volume and cutting corners...

You'd think that with the rift between China and the USA, that Samsung might step up their game.... maybe it's time for someone else to step up?

I always liked Samsung hardware. I still do for the most part. On the other hand, whoever their software team is....ugh. Not sure if it's Google's fault for letting them do it or their fault for making it.

I would be using a HTC 10, except the battery crapped out after 2 years of use, and was declining for a year. During the last three months before it fully crapped out, it wouldn't last more than 1 minute off the charger. Replacing the battery was liable to break the screen, and no cellphone repair shop was willing to touch it.

Replaced it with a V20. Removeable battery, and I feel like it has a better DAC than the HTC 10. I've given up on mobile games so performance is hardly a concern for the next few years.
 
Its almost like if you want AND can afford (since alot of folks who will disagree with my statement say the vocal minority are those who arent really purchasing) flagship devices you automatically want wireless everything, thinness, and fragility. Also you must also agree that the company can do no wrong.
