I haven't built a computer in about 6 years, currently have a Viewsonic 27 in. It's good, however, I'm planning on building a new computer with 3700x and radeon 5700xt. Im somewhat out of the loop with what monitor would be a good fit for my new build.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Ideal price range would be $500 US

The LG 32GK850G is $500-550. It's a pretty good option for a larger screen, 144 Hz, G-sync.

I agree that the LG 27GL850 is worth waiting for. Looks like it could be among the best 27" gaming monitors to come out.

He's getting a 5700XT so 32GK850G would mean no VRR for him

I can't do 27's. I've been on 30"+ for so long there is no way I could deal with that. I'd recommend a 32" of some sort. I think the MSI's (2560x1440) are pretty good and are FreeSync and G-Sync compatible.

I used to disagree with this thinking 27 was about ideal for desktop gaming.... Then I bought a 32 and not sure I could go back.

It's a 70 Hz panel so I get a Jones for my old 144 Hz 27" screen from time to time and will swap it out.... Feels like I'm gaming on a cell phone.

I do think 25-27" might be ideal for a competitive gamer as everything going on is in your direct vision but for the majority of us that aren't professional gamers, the extra screen real estate really adds to the immersion especially on slower paced games like Mass Effect, Dead Space and so on.

It does depend on how deep your desk is because a 32" up close could be a little overwhelming but if you've got the space to scoot it back far enough, it really is nice. So much so that I'm thinking about moving up to a 21:9 screen.

24 25" will probably be around for a while just because of esports. I mean Ninja uses a Alienware 25" 240hz and it's a good monitor because it's a Dell except it's 1080P.

Personally, I can see everything at once on my 34" Alienware without any issue. I could go bigger comfortably. My eyes aren't even that good and I still sit two and a half feet back from it at least.

Seems like most all the pros use 24 or 25" screens again so they can see as much as they possibly can while moving their eyes around as little as possible.

It's 1080 so they can get as close to 240 fps as possible and that's easier at the lower resolution. My kids a Fortnite nut and loves the streamers so I'm familiar with most of their setups lol

Again those are only gonna be important if you're playing very fast paced games like Fortnite, PUBG and the like and while I do think there's merit to that theory, it's arguable how much of an advantage it really is tho. I did notice when I went from my 27 to my 32 that in fast paced build battles in Fortnite for example it was easy to lose track of things on the 32 but once I moved it back far enough, it was no longer an issue. But really, how many games are out there where you're getting in build battles?

And as much as I love the look of 144+ fps and how smooth it is, I don't think it really makes you a better gamer.

I used a CRT for as long as possible until I finally relented and got a 27" Overlord. FPS Gaming has gone downhill ever since crt's died.

It has taken 20 years for the technology to catch up to CRT's performance. Even then, we are not there... before I die, I just want to buy a 39" 4k oled Gaming monitor with zero lag and game at 240hz again.

CRT were the best these LCDs are for the blind birds I know oled is great typing this on my Amoled Samsung S9 it's a great screen.

Ah crap you're right. That's the one I've been looking at buying.

Change that G to an F (32GK850F) and you can get the FreeSync 2 version for $500. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjABegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw00XM6sDD4_SiSyAy8SBkuu

this monitor seems to be the way to go, thanks for the feedback
