ASUS unveils custom RX 5700 STRIX

Pretty sexy, curious to see if it gets close to Arctic performance.

I am going to house / dog sit for 2 weeks around September 1, it would be extremely nice if i was able to do that with a new GFX in my computer.
CUZ this time i am bringing my COMP as the drive between there and my home are too costly in gasoline, beside the place have fiber though it is just a ultra modest 30/30 mbit connection.
And really i would be a bad dog-sitter if i left the 2 dogs alone for so long every day, even if they are used to their owner being at work for 8 hours every day, but i like to think of my self as a better dog "owner"

Looks sharp- though I'd pass on red LEDs. If they're RGB and can be set to a nice clean white, that would be nice.

If they're like my current ASUS 1070 they can be set with software; mine defaulted to red but I changed it to blue to match my fans. The software only needs to be run to change the color. Once set you don't need to keep running it unless you want to change the color again. For ASUS software it's not actually bad for a change.

That's definitely good.

And AMD GPU- quite aware, it's just my least favorite color and companies catering to enthusiasts seem to think that everyone likes red.

I don't mind red, but I hate the very bright LEDs in red. Radeon Logo is annoyingly bright on reference. My Corsair AIO I have turned down in Cue and is easy on the eyes.

I've been out of the game for a while, but damn, aren't those pretty huge for midrange cards?

Here is what I do not get.

Look at those designs and if the fins all face 90 degrees from where they are, you could seal up the whole unit and use 3 fans to blow out the back. Much easier on a double, or triple slot GPU design.

Bah, Strix doesn't hold a candle to this model from Yeston:

"You're gonna need a bigger case."

That is one big card. These days, I don't put much in the mobo other than a video card, so that's alright. But still...

RX 5700 is limited artifiailly for overclocking even RX Vega was
limited "artificially" how? Idk about Navi, but the problem with (14nm, limiting to my experience) Vega is that the efficiency curve is such that going from <1500Mhz to >1600Mhz can result in like 50-100% more power consumption, which is down to limits of the architecture and silicon- nothing artificial about that. Nvidia GPUs do the same thing if you wind the clocks up enough, it's just less noticeable because 1) NVs position as the market leader means they can set their efficiency goals from stock cards more aggressively and therefore have more room for OC'ing and 2) NV cards tend to have much more conservative power limits than Vega did so we don't get to see what happens when you push a GeForce way outside of its comfort zone like AMD allows

It does make sense- 2.2GHz has been the limit for GPUs coming out of TSMCs fabrication lines for some time.
check this https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&u=https://www.igorslab.media/ungefesselt-radeon-rx-5700-xt-auf-ueber-22-ghz-uebertaktet-break-the-limits-mit-den-neuen-softpowerplaytables-fuer-die-rx-5700-und-rx-5700-xt/3/
now they allow oc up to 2.3ghz

Just found first this up for presale here in Denmark with a in stock September 3, and it carry a extra price of 150 USD over the blower cards.

None of the other "leaked" cards have turned up here yet, but i hope their price will be a little less than that Asus, and a release before SEP 1 will suit me fine.

Well don't Denmark have a 25% vat tax slapped on it over the USA prices?

Indeed, i am comparing to the price of other cards here.
If i had to see the prices Americans get for electronics and gasoline i would just go insane.

So they say, i dont see that.
Danish hospitals and doctors use to be #1, now we are way down the list not even top 10
Sure we are one of the happiest countries, but factoring in the number of happy pills we eat and the use of illegal and legal drugs, thats really no wonder.

not surprising, they've always slapped a higher price tag on the strix cards, did the same with the vega cards and rx580 as well. it really just comes down to whether the benefits you get from the strix card are worth it over the others that will most likely be cheaper.

Well the Strix women just LOVED her Demoing Lol...besides fing up that board Lol. And Asus don't even want to do indicator LEDs...does that matter no...do ittt their killing NVidia..jump those first bead or two and just f it send 12.6v in lol...it does run better lol

The TUF OC have popped up here ( no in store date ) about 50 USD cheaper than the strix OC.

I seriously want some of what you're on. I haven't been able to make heads nor tales of anything you have posted so far on this forums.

but now reviews dont show it can overclock beyond 2.1ghz i wonder if these tech sites arent enthusiast and dont risk overclocking ? was there some review where they achieved more than 2.15ghz?
