New Note series landed, and for the purposes of battery life the Note 10 no longer contains a headphone jack. Of course folks are in uproar over this. Samsung PR has been going through their archives on Youtube and other social media platform one can assume to purge any mention of Samsung taking jabs at competitors for their lack of a jack.

What I don't understand is why these companies want to get rid of the jack so badly. I personally will never buy a phone without a headphone jack. Many are the same. Therefore, there is a clear market for this. Why not have some models with a jack and some without?

But I suppose I should stop being logical. Logic never applied to smartphones.

To be fair... Samsung has spent hundreds of millions on ads. Ads designed to seep into the oled places in our minds.

Going forward there's no need for earphones - they expect you to listen to the voices in your head - Inception style.

Lol.

Eating their words almost literally.

I miss the jack ever so slightly (just to charge while driving and listening), but it’s hardly a deal breaker. I’m not a huge audiophile, and I don’t exactly consider a smartphone the ideal platform to pretend to be one. Podcasts and background music at work, bluetooth is fine.

But I’m sure that somehow makes me and everyone else just terrible people for not dying on this hill.

This is not a problem with the headphone jack. This is a problem with the USB interface.

The first implementation of USB was an impressive piece of practical engineering that was ruined because Ajay Bhatt failed at something that would have been Job One (pun!) at Apple - he didn't make it obvious how the connector was supposed to be plugged in.

Micro-USB connectors are sort of isoscelese thingies, making it a little more obvious which way they are supposed to be connected, but now the connectors are so small it's hard to tell which direction they're supposed to be plugged in without bringing the whole thing up to your face (at least, for my older eyes - I can remember a time when I could read a Microsoft product key without glasses.)

The solution would have been to implement the USB 1.1 interface that was built to be compatible with a headphone jack, but the USB-IF didn't do it because no one thought it would be needed. Too late now, and no good solutions for 2019. Maybe mandate that all phones switch to USB Type-C plugs. But I still like plain headphones.

Making things for, get sued for patent infringement of things, in turn they counter sue, head phonejack, no headphone jack. I'm starting to doubt these are really 2 separate companies and not just some extremely elaborate front to evade potential monopoly laws.

I'm still holding on to my iPhone 6s+ with a headphone jack. I'm not doing it exclusively for the jack (though it's certainly a nice pairing with my Sennheisers) but because there's no real reason to upgrade my phone when this one works perfectly well.

You can get quite a bit more battery capacity with just fractions of an inch more space in modern lithium battery packs.

Some manufacturers are known to cheat size specs to get that bit more battery capacity.

There hasn't been a smartphone that I'd buy for at least 3 years.

Stop copying apple, idiots.

Here are my terms:
No notch
No infinite screen
No curved screen at the edges
No pop up camera
No more than 1 camera on the back
Must have 16:9 screen
Must have 4000mah+ battery
At least 5.5, preferably 6" screen with QHD+ resolution.

My phone's got more than one lens, one 1x and one 2x - That's something I can handle and is actually quite handy.

I'd just like to add one thing to that list...An OLED display. After using OLED I can't go back to normal LCD. But the crappy little speaker brigade can jamb their BT audio.

Battery life? Strap 6000mAh+ on a phone and you have battery life, so far my record is 4 days uptime on battery with moderate use and a headphones jack.
But a headphones jack sized area? They are shorter than the actual headphones plug and only a few milimeters wider.. congratulations, you gained 100mAH of battery capacity.

Why would anyone expect them to leave up ads making fun of a "feature" they now implement?

(Yes, I'm sticking with headphone-able phones, the less I need to remember to charge the better)

yeah ill never buy a phone without a headphone jack. but all my phones have been at least year old models from swappa... im not the target demographic of idiots that have $150/mo phone contracts and lease their cars.

Gosh, I feel like such a fool for leasing a vehicle and paying what most people do for a phone contract, thanks for pointing that out to me.

Good luck on being able to buy a phone in 10 years, you won't be finding one with a headphone jack.

As long as slim phones sell better than fat phones, then designers are going to want to get rid of the headphone jack, doesn't have a thing to do with battery life.

You want the Galaxy S10+
4100Mah battery
Headphone jack

Does have the curved edge, but you can disable the edge functions.
I never even think about charging it during the day... go to bed and its typically over 50%, unless I used it for several hours (in addition to my typical use), then it might be 30%. So nice compared to my old phones' battery. The battery and the excellent camera sold me, and exceeded the OnePlus that I was seriously considering.

Lots of "I'll never buy anything without a headphone jack" comments popping up online. You might not have a choice pretty soon.

Swore off Samsung at the S5.

Show me on the stuffed bear here where the S5 touched you. :p

Bad/defective products are made by every company, doesn't mean everything a company makes is bad. But that's actually surprising since I've seen many people still holding onto the S5 because it was the last Samsung phone with a removable battery while also being water resistant.

Anyways, back on topic; Samsung pulled an Apple with the Note 10 being 1080p for $950, like the XR was 720p for $750. I'm sure the display will be great otherwise, but it should at least match the cheaper S10 in all specs including resolution. The Note 10+ is as overpriced as ever, but I'll consider picking one up or the Pixel 4 XL as soon as there's a decent deal on the unlocked model.

I picked up the OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2 for my OP7 and being my first wireless headphones/earbuds of any type, i'm super impressed and not having wires is wonderful.

I don't actually want to deal with a wire anymore with my phone.

Doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, but you didn't list it in your terms.

It will definitely annoy me to not have a headphone jack in my old car which doesn't have bluetooth.

The adapters work well enough. Just sucks to not be able to charge simultaneously if needed. Haven’t really needed to myself though.

once jobs left, there's no excuse to copycat apple anymore. Imagine being reduced to copy a company that no longer innovates... like how shitty are you samsung?

Tried one of these before getting the S10+...

No "strong" cases are made for the Razer Phone 2, and I specifically wanted the unicorn beetle case (better, thinner, cheaper than Otter Box).
I was trying to make it work tho with only a soft case. After 4 days it rebooted and reflashed itself to Factory... Returned it after that, bought the S10+ instead.
The price on Razer Phone 2 was great ($449 or 499) and I really liked it... But self factory reflashing just felt like an alarm going off, and I was doubting its build quality. Hope they get it right with Razer Phone 3.

So a V10/V20? That's what I use and it's plenty of phone for me. You can expand them up to 9000mAh. 6k gets me 1 day (20hr+) constant/heavy use, 2 days heavier/normal and 4 days with moderate to light use. And that's on Android 5, have not even updated it yet.

AFAIK, the team was fired, so there is little chance of Razer releasing another phone anytime soon.

Self reflash.. wow.
Definitive return.
