Hi would you guys think is worth upgrading to a 2070 super or 5700 XT (my system specs are in my signature) from 1070 SLI?
I have a 32-inch 4k Monoprice monitor and do some light gaming (Battlefield, the division 2, starcraft, etc).

The dilemma I'm having is that I'm building my 14-year-old nephew a new pc and so far this is what I bought him

AMD RYZEN 5 2600X 6-Core 3.6 GHz
ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming AM4 AMD X470
Team T-Force Delta RGB 32GB (4 x 8GB)
Cooler Master RR-212S-20PC-R1 Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G3, 80 Plus Gold 1000W, Fully
1 TB SSD + 4 TB WD red drive (games drive)
and my current Corsair Air 540 case

the only piece missing is the GPU so I had planned to either give him one of my 1070 and sale the second one on eBay and upgrade. Or buy him an RX 570-580 since he is only playing on 32 1080 monitor.
I just have not seen many benchmarks (or can't find any) comparing 1070 SLI to a 2070 Super or 5700 XT I was hoping I could do SLI or crossfire but from what I read neither the 2070 or 5700 support it. Is hard to let go of my SLI setup lol I have been running SLI / Crossfire setups since the GTX 480 days.

Any suggestions?

give him one of your 1070s and each of you have a single 1070. he will be happy and you already said you do "light gaming" so just upgrade your card if you become unhappy. that is my advice, seems like everyone comes out with a nice setup. good for you and your nephew, sounds fun.

I would say 100% forget about SLI. It's not worth it anymore. I've run SLI from GTX 470 and above, had Tri-SLI at one point, and most recently had two 2080 Ti cards. It was fun while it lasted, but it's more hassle than anything these days (micro-stutter, driver bugs, etc.).

My advice would be to sell both 1070s while they're worth something. You can get between $200 - 300 each (I'd recommend selling here on the forum, ebay is scammer's paradise now). If your nephew is on 1080p, an RX 580 8GB would be fine (I see some used around $100). Then you can use the rest of the money and get something nice for yourself.

The 2070S and 5700XT are both nice, but will be a stretch at 4K. I think you can do it (I've tested 4K on my 5700XT) but you will need to lower settings to get to 60 fps. They are trading blows, so I would say the 5700XT is the better deal.

I think Sli and Crossfire would have been wonderful if still properly supported. General consensus is do it with one card to suit your needs.

I had 3 Gtx 670's at one time. Didn't last long as the gains with three cards wasn't worth it, but those two 670's kicked ass for quite awhile. Only have one now, gave the other two away to needy systems. <sniff>

Seems like the second and third posts offer pretty good options

The thing is with DX12 it's now up to the game developers to implement multi GPU. Nvidia and AMD have no control over this unless they want to pay game devs to implement it. That's not really feasible considering it doesn't really have a large user base.

Yeah, the game developers. A gamers best friend.
/End sarcasm

I had high hopes for dx12, but other alternatives are out there.

Sli and crossfire are great for multi monitor systems, but for pure gaming, support is lacking. When it works it's cool still though.

well that's the thing buy one think the cards fed up or something...just buy something I don't know..I see some dogging on this one though...idk shot at a reference vega see if its ok. Probably is...

Read this post again and see if it makes any sense. It certainly did not to me.

As for OP I agree with 2nd and 3rd posts.
