Pixel 4

We've seen a lot of good leaks on the Pixel 4 line so far have there been any specification leaks?

-Battery size? 4,000mAh hopefully
-RAM? 6GB or 8GB?
-Screen type? Flat or curved?

"There are obviously plenty of rumors out there right now, but BGR’s reliable inside sources have been able to confirm a few key specs for both the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL.

First, we can confirm that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will have slightly larger displays than the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel 4’s display resolution is 2280 x 1080, while the Pixel 3 had a 2160 x 1080 screen. Meanwhile, the larger Pixel 4 XL has a 3040 x 1440-pixel display, which is an upgrade from the 2960 x 1440-pixel screen on the Pixel 3 XL.

On top of that, we can confirm that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will both come with 6GB of RAM, which is an upgrade compared to the 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM in the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. We also know conclusively that there will be a 128GB storage option on both the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, though it’s still unclear what other capacities will be available. It’s also not clear if higher-end Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL models might come with additional RAM, but that’s not something Google has done in the past." BGR July 18, 2019

Here's an ask: if the 3.5mm headphone jack is so prohibitive, give me a 2.5mm TRRS (balanced) jack with support for a TRRRS with mic. Much easier than a USB-C adapter.

Nobody should care about analog headphone jacks on phones without a good DAC. LG is like the only major player with flagship phones out right now that you should want an analog audio jack. But LG's market share is teeny tiny.

Figured that was implied- put a balanced output on a phone (or anything really) and you're going to catch hell if you don't put a clean DAC on it...

Best Buy has unlocked pxel 3a for $299.99 atm. My question is that a fair deal?

Considering the 3a is a fair deal at MSRP, I would definitely qualify that as a more-than-fair (or pretty good) deal.

I think people keep forgetting too, there is a good side to using a USB C headphone adapter; you can get one with a better DAC (or at least similar to LG's) and use it on most phones (some have built-in DACs still that aren't compatible with these, but think they're mostly older HTC and Moto phones from when they first switched to USB C and removed the headphone jacks) or laptops too. Though there's nothing stopping you from using that on a phone with a built-in headphone jack too, I guess if you wanted a better DAC. There was a guy at PocketNow that used to do decent audio/DAC analysis of current phones, but I haven't seen any newer ones in the past couple years. It would be interesting to see these third-party adapters compared to LG's and the standard headphone adapters included with most phones.

Edit: In fact, I just ordered that DAC after looking at it more, lol. I have noticed some popping with the stock adapter on my 2XL since I've been using it a bit lately when the wife steals my Sony XM3s, heh. It'll be good to have for my Surface Pro and my Yukon that only has aux input too.

After the complete failure of the Nexum AQUA after Apple released an update, I am weary purchasing any budget friendly headphone DAC adapter that is not FiiO. Impedance Impedance Impedance!!! Maybe things are more stable on the Android side, but what if Google makes an update too?

Now you're implying that Google's Pixel will use a good DAC... which has not never happened. Not even when HTC built the Pixel 1.

Just get a good wireless like Sony's XM3s. Stop living in the past, bro. :D

What I'm looking for, potentially, is a cable (or a dock) that would allow for a USB interface and for power to a phone, and for that USB interface to either work directly over USB to a higher-end DAC or to output optical or coaxial audio digitally.

What I'm not looking for is wireless anything or a solution that relies on either the phone DAC or a cheap external DAC. A compromise might be something like an 'OTG DAC/preamp' of sorts.

And that's not even specifying the phone...

Well, yeah. Not expecting that at all.

I bought an AudioQuest Dragonfly USB DAC for $75 on sale. It typically runs $100. With a USB adapter I can use the DAC with my phone, laptop and tablet. It works for speakers or headphones and really improves the audio on mobile devices.

Official Pixel 4 XL specs listing 6GB RAM and 3,700mAh battery are both big bummers.

OnePlus 7 Pro has 8GB - 12GB RAM and a large 4,000mAh battery. And is only $650. Come on Google, you need to do better than this. I may just get the 7 Pro now. And that big Frankenstein forehead bezel will look so goofy for a 2019 phone.

Yeah, I'm officially off Team Pixel after reading that article. Gonna get another 7 Pro this weekend.

Fucking Google man, what the f? It's your OS, it's the "stock vanilla homemade Google phone" designed the way you want Android to be. So make a bad ass phone already. You now charge high dollar for these Pixel's, start blowing away OnePlus for once. The 7 Pro for $650 should not be as good or maybe even slightly better against the higher price $900+ Pixel 4 XL. But per these spec's, it's looking like another ok good phone, not amazing or give you a hard on type of phone, but a good solid smartphone.

I think the 7 Pro may be the Android phone of the year over the 4 XL.

Since y'all talking about the OP7 Pro, let me play the devil's advocate here. All that extra money you're giving to Google is for American spying instead of Chinese spying. You know you want to be spied on by the good old USA rather than the super ancient China... And camera!

It is all made in China so the more then likely China is also spying on you with the pixel!

If you want privacy on your phone in the digital age, there's only one way...

Not digging the battery size reduction in the P4 regular...but I don't think I have a choice.
OG Pixel is really showing its age now. I'll put the P4 purchase on my Uber card (price protection up to 120 days), so the incoming $150 discount on Black Friday doesn't screw me over lol.

The Regular P4 would have been pretty boss if it had a 3500-4000 battery and the smaller screen. Oh well google you swing and miss again. You can't rest on Stock Android and your camera forever.

In today's age their is not such thing as privacy. Spy on me all you want. Got nothing to hide and I watch my credit like a hawk.

Regarding OP7 Pro - when they finally offer a non-phablet size, I'll bite. That said, I think most Oneplus owners are fine with sacrificing camera for performance anyway; or they don't care.
Google's been resting on their laurels for so long that sooner or later the industry, just by sheer length of time, will catch up on camera quality. Apple made an absolutely massive jump between the X and XS generation, certainly close *enough* to a Pixel now, that it's no longer a weakness for Apple.

No offense, but I think that's a bad attitude to have, the old "I've got nothing to hide".

That's how our freedoms slowly get stripped away over the years, and before you know it, were living in Nazi Germany or "1984".

I like my older brother says when people say this, okay then for the next month let me listen into every single personal phone call you make, let me watch every single thing you browse and view on the internet, let me look at every single text you sent and receive. doesn't matter if it's personal to your wife or work or bank if you have nothing to hide then you don't care if I look at everything .

everything other than my banking has false info, its not even a consideration for me anymore. The other day I had to chuckle because an old log in was asking for confirmation by asking for my birthdate and I had no clue what I had entered into it (my guesses were wrong) but why the fuck does a rando website want my birthdate and why would anyone enter that in?

There's 'made in China' and then there's 'made in China and sold in the US by a Chinese company'

It's enough of a difference- though I'd prefer not 'made in China' for computerized electronics at all.

[you can leave my stack of Chi-Fi alone]

I'd say that Pixels are not running stock android. They are running stuff that is not normally available to other brands unless sideloaded. Heck, Essential had Pie on their phons first because they run bone stock Andriod.

Honestly was looking at getting the OP7Pro but wanted to wait for the Pixel 4 and similar offerings from Apple. But gotta say, so far the Pixel 4 looks a bit underwhelming.

Yeah it looks ok, but nothing earth shattering. Sure Google's FaceID seems cool, but that's about it. OnePlus 7 Pro still seems like an amazing smartphone, especially if your a fan of stock vanilla type UI. And then the price LOL it's unbeatable for the price.

So the Coral color is not the Halloween orange I was hoping it would be, but seems to be more of a salmon almost pinkish color :(:(

And the black border around the frame, instead of matching the back color is a bad choice.

Yawn I am done with buying any type of flag ship phone. I just brought my mom a $150 Moto g7 and was like this damn thing is enough for everything I need. No reason to buy $800+ phones anymore.

The forehead bezel looks so 2016, not like a next gen brand new phone should in 2019. This Pixel 4 XL looks like the Pixel 2 XL from 2017, a somewhat dated design today.

My wife has the 2 XL, and me 3 XL, and when I use her 2 XL, I always see the large forehead bezel, just seems extra thick and big for a bezel on a phone, and I never thought Google would go backwards in design to large bezels.

I know at the end of the day, performance, and stock Android are the key features here, as well as best camera on a smartphone, are #1 over what size bezel the phone has, but still, it looks dated for a 2019 new smartphone.

And for the suggested price of $900+, we still only get 6GB RAM, and a 3,700mAh battery, whereas the cheaper OnePlus 7 Pro has 8GB to 12GB RAM, and a larger battery, and a more customizable OS, and more fluid smoother OS, I sure hope Google upped the performance to match the smoothness of Oxygen OS.
