What do you do with your old 1TB/2TB drives?

Shoot and then bury them on my birthday every year. What used to be a two person carry box is now maybe a dozen or two. Good riddance.

Haha, if only my server had 3.5" bays... But it's 2.5" sas/sata, so my options are limited.

People around here are asking over 60 for a used 2tb

I'll buy em for 40 or less else can't be bothered.

I need to make something to replace the 4tb in my media server.

Yeah, old drives fall into that area where used sales just don't make sense for most people.

I know personally I usually can't be bothered to go through the trouble of listing an item, communicating with a buyer and then packing up and sending it if I'm not going to take home at least $200. I also would not pay any real amount of money for these drives used.

So, like with so much stuff, the junk just ages to irrelevance in my basement.

I will pay for shipping and some
Beer money for people’s 2TB drive. I use them for offsite (parents basement) storage :)

if i have no plans to use them again, i just rip em open and take the magnets out and shatter the disks. then throw whats left of it in a box full of other random computer crap i should recycle but never will most likely.

I must be completely out of touch because I still use a 2TB drive on my only PC. I've got three other 500gb/1tb SSD drives, sure, but the 2TB drive I keep random crap on.

I keep a few in a pile for... whatever reason.
Reformatted a few for friends to use as backup drives with a USB dongle.

Still using 4x 2TB drives with my NAS setup at home (2x in the NAS, 1x USB attached for local backup, 1x remote for network backup).

My minimum requires for drives that I keep are that it must be SATA2 or newer and 250GB or larger.

I finally got around to selling my stack of old 3TB and 4TB drives. But I sold them in bulk so it was easy. I still have a few 1TB, etc, that didn't get a lot of usage. I'm giving them to family members to use as backup drives.
