Anyone run into this problem and have a working fix?

Problem

When launched, the Android Chrome browser will lock up for 10 to 15 seconds. During the lockup I can't scroll, and can't get any response from the app. After 10 -15 seconds the dialog box says Chrome isn't responding and offers options to close app or wait. Choosing wait restores responsiveness after a few seconds of wait time, but the problem will return after closing and relaunching the app.

Have tried all of the following recommendations and it does not fix the problem
  • Disabled and Force Stopped the app
  • Cleared the app's Browsing history, Cache, and Cookies
  • Uninstalled all of the Chrome app updates and reverted to previous versions of Chrome
  • Wiped the phone's System Cache
  • Launched the phone in Safe Mode

Am running Android Chrome version 75, on a Moto G6 / Android 9
Have no problem with Firefox for Android
The problem has affected other smartphones, other versions of Chrome, and other versions of Android.

Haven't seen that issue myself, so just going to speculate and give other suggestions:

  • Do you have an SD card installed and/or configured to be used as internal storage? If so, maybe try removing or un-mounting it and seeing what happens.
  • Have you tried Chrome Beta or Chrome Dev from the Play Store to see if they do the same thing? If they don't, I would guess it's a bug in Chrome with your specific hardware or configuration.
  • Have you checked the RAM usage on your phone in the developer settings to see if Chrome or another app is eating up too much resources and causing it to crash?
  • Do you know when this started happening or has it always happened since you got the phone? If it only started recently, I would try to find an APK of an older known-working version of Chrome and see if it still happens on that version. If it does, then you know it's an issue with the OS or system configuration of your phone and not the App (though the app shouldn't crash like that regardless if it's written right or at least give you a specific error to fix it with). If it doesn't, then you know it's a bug in Chrome with your specific phone and/or configuration.
  • Good'ol factory reset, lol.

No SD card

Thanks, I installed Chrome Beta and Chrome Dev and discovered that they also have the problem.

Viewed RAM usage in developer options Running Services; Chrome and my other apps are not eating up too much resources.

It started happening during the last week in July, 2019 while on Chrome version 75. I updated to Chrome 76 last night and the problem is still there.

(y) Problem Resolved

That worked, thanks for that suggestion T4rd! I reverted back to Android Chrome version 73 and the problem is not there. Looks like I will have to stay with Chrome version 73 until some future update is released that does not give me the problem with my phone and configuration.

 What a brutal thought! Am glad I didn't have to.

Nice! Glad to have helped.. I guess I would just keep an eye on when a new Chrome version is released and see if it's fixed in each new version and then keep the APK on your phone to roll back to in case it's not fixed still. I would be reporting the bug (should be an option when it hangs or crashes) every time it crashes too just to ensure it gets the most visibility to the devs so it can be fixed.
