Figuring this might help a few people out. Building a new PC, going to go with the 3900X and the 5700XT. I am going to use the Corsair H115i RGB cooler.

I am not looking to spend a huge amount, last time I built a PC was 2011 with my i5 2500K I'm still using, and man have prices on motherboards gone way up. I am looking to stay under the $350 mark which seems to open up most boards to me, but <$300 is preferred. Currently looking at ASUS ROG Strix X570-E, ASUS ROG Strix X570-F, ASUS Prime X570-Pro, GIGABYTE X570 AORUS MASTER, GIGABYTE X570 AORUS ELITE, MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE, MSI MEG X570 ACE, MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS and MSI MPG X570 GAMING PRO CARBON.

I really don't need WiFi or any special features, but I am looking to overclock. Any help is appreciated.

Personally I would go with the Master but would hold until it is clear bios's are in a good state. Personally I think the ASUS Strix E is over price, frankly most ASUS boards are, I would get the Crosshair instead of the Strix which has more options in the bios, way better back panel and no Wifi (I am the same in regards to that). Not impress with MSI boards but really anyone of the above boards would probably work very well once the bios's are good. ASRock Tachi is a feature rich, good VRM board but appears to have bad bios issues at this time, plus probably the only T-Topology memory layout which is noramally better for 4 sticks of ram but not as good for speed with topping out 2 sticks. Which for all intensive purposes, 3733 mhz is the abosolute sweet spot for memory with Ryzen 3 keeping a 1:1 ration with Ram and Infinity fabric in sync ->Faster ram as in 4000 and above you actually will loose performance. Anyways probably any of those boards will work.

I've been muellering over this exact same question since their release.

I tend to keep builds together and working for about 7-10 years, so I am looking for longevity and stability. So I figure a good motherboard just under the halo model for $350 is a good place to start. Quality components and ample ability for future CPU, etc upgrades. I am going to spend about $500 more than I normally would, because I am going long haul. Decided on the Lian Li 011 case. I've been using them on & off for over 20 years. Going AIO water cooler w/360 rad for best long term stability and clocks.

I'm going with 3900x and 32gb of memory @ 3600Mhz c16 & two 1TB PCIe4.0 NVMe drives.

My two choices were:
-Gigabyte Master
-Asus Hero

Either will do, I've just been looking over memory sticks and bios updates/support.

Very similar to me, where did you find 32GB 3600mhz memory, or is it 4x8GB?

That new G.Skill Trident NEO 2x16GB.
I have not bought anything yet, except the case and fans and PSU. I don't plan on having the rig built until end of Aug but if the memory go back in stock I am buying it.

Damn, that's more than double what I paid for the Corsair 3200MHz.

Now I'm rethinking my memory though and seeing if it's worth speng a bit more for a bit more speed.

I think I have narrowed it to the ROG Crosshair VIII Hero, ASUS ROG Strix X570-E or Prime X570-Pro. Not sure the extra of either the Crosshair or Strix are worth the price over the Prime.

The 3rd gen Ryzens as they currently are won't really overclock much, or you lose single thread speed when overclocking, since manual OC turns off the precision boost.

Prime X570 Pro gets my vote becaues of that.

The Prime definitely looks like a great board and a reasonable price, looks like the main things you are giving up is some USB 3.2 G2 ports, the BIOS Flashback and Clear CMOS buttons on the back and going to 14 phase power vs. 16 phase if I am reading everything correctly. Other than that I don't see anything that it downgrades that would affect me.

If you're getting a 3rd gen with the Pro, you won't really need flashback (if you're upgrading to 4th gen, you could always flash a BIOS before selling the chip).

The clear CMOS button (FOR ME) isn't a big deal, same as the G2 ports. Depends on you if you need it though.

I went x570 Gaming Edge for "Dragon's Aspect"

I ordered from Newegg/Amazon.ca (july 12th both of them) but cancelled orders/set to back order mid sept before would get (even though online said "in stock ready to ship"(boy do they need better stock tracking, this led to finding best option (price wise) and listing as in stock.

LIARS lol, at least the price is reasonable (where it should be)

shopRBC (ordered on 17th) under $320 vs 335+ Canadian

check today, next week Aug 6-9 (they not 100% know) nice new mobo (hope all warranty stuff goes through proper) and works as good (preferably better) than review etc. suggest it will.

(now Newegg/Amazon(as of tusday this week) updating as "available order today" should be Aug 14 to sept 2.. remove backorder/preorder status (almost a mth late :D / wish means the 3mth pass vouchers are likely "gone" (they should have 6mth tbh..

I pay higher price if get asap, not when waiting 4+ weeks (especially not when give 10-15 day or you get no chance RMA from delivery till you get and test)

you plicks ^.^

Dragon is optimistic I waited just the right time and chose the right parts with few Agesa/driver issues to contend with (smooth sailing)

Hope everyone who got into the Ryzen game (specifically this "gen 3") are loving them for the most part vs wishing they stuck with other options, now is the wait for more $$$ to get a shiny new Navi to slap in there (pricey for lil old Dragon...

That video just made me more indecisive. Lot's of good looking boards out there. If I were to go with the $360 level is there really no bad choice?

Is the VRM on the Aorus Elite good enough for overclocking?

Is the Taichi a good middle ground at $299?

Sigh, I hate being this indecisive.

tbh there is absolutely no bad choice across the entire lineup except the CH8 formula.. just go with which ever board is in the price range you want with the features you want. some might be better deals than others, some are a bit redundant than others because the board below them in price is basically the same board minus a feature or two that you may not need. every single board can handle overclocking ryzen 3000 series including the sub 200 dollar boards but they might be a little iffy with the 3950x.

honestly though if you still can't decide i'd recommend checking buildzoid's rundown video's for each manufacture. he does a good job explaining them.

MSI MEG Ace is my choice for 3 m.2 slots and reportedly one of if not the quietest chipset fans. Will be getting one when the 3900x is back in stock.

Gigabyte has chipset fan control on bios now too on theirs though.

Aorus Master and Meg Ace are my top choices in over $300 boards.

Auros Ultra for 3 m.2 drives beefy VRM and feature rich at $300

Aorus Elite at $200: a bit scimpy in features but good VRM.

MSI Gaming Pro Carbon at 250-260. I feel the best board in this price range.

Avoiding Asus this go around. Really love their stuff but I feel like there are equivalent or better options for the price elsewhere in X570.

I have the Asus ROG Strix X570-E and Im happy with it. I am waiting for an updated bios that will fix the overvolting issue at idle and hopefully higher boost but it’s been rock stable. Running my ram at 3666/1833 with a fclk to match.

All X570 boards are pretty good so I say get one with the feature set you want at a price that’s agreeable.

There’s no such thing as overclocking Ryzen 2 unless you go LN2.

The best you can hope for is dicking around with memory speeds, timings and fclk to eek out a slight advantage for stock but Ryzens boost algorithm has essentially killed traditional overclocking.

I agree it is a great motherboard. One thing you must note is that the second and third m.2 slots are NOT full length 2280 slots. So you would need to order a shorter NVME drive for those 2 slots.

12C484C1-6832-483B-91D6-89E86A093472.jpeg I picked one up yesterday. The slots fit the standard nvme drives with no issues.

Top slot will take the longest ones.

Edit: better pic WIP.

Who generally has had the best BIOS support and overclocking lately, especially for memory? I think that will help more than what price level to go with.

Couldn't agree more. Firmware is key as all the x570 boards have decent hardware. Its just a matter of features you want and price. I have only had the Meg Ace running for about an hour so VERY limited experience.. I have built on AM4 MSI boards previously and found the bios to be easy and pretty solid all around. AsRock has been good to me as well and Asus when they finally get going--these were on 300 and 400 series boards mind you.

Which one do you want? More frequent firmware updates or memory overclocking? MSI seems to hold the edge on maximum memory speeds, but have been quite slow on BIOS updates. Gigabyte has been putting them out the most frequently, but also appear to do less validation and are often times buggy.

For every pro you list for a manufacturer, there's also a con that goes along with it.

It's true, always seems to be that way, lol.

So, there's really no bad X570 boards above $200 from what I am hearing and seeing people recommend, just need to go with the features you want. Still thinking the Crosshair VIII Hero unless the Gigabyte is really better.

I have the CH8 and haven't had a single issue. I trust Asus to consistently update bioses more than GB personally.

There are no bad x570 motherboards, they are all over engineered. Also, don't worry too much about memory speed, it isn't as important to Ryzen 2 as it was to the previous Ryzen CPUs, if your memory can hit 3733Mhz and CL 17, then you are golden.

Every motherboard seems to have it's ups and downs. What I would do is look at the features that are important to you. Sometimes you are paying extra for features you don't need, like Wifi for example or extra m2 slots that you don't need.

For me, I watched all the videos from buildpac and went for the MSI MPG x570 Gaming Plus.

Speed is really only 3-5%. Could use that money on faster SSD or Something
