Paper Launch for AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

So i pre ordered day1 and i just got the call my 3900x is ready for pick up. This is Canada and it seems like a paper launch here but maybe not so bad

Well unless someone is willing to ship it to me I am out of luck for Microcenter, only one in my state is in Southern California and I am in Northern California.

if you want to pay Canadian prices I'd ship to you, also +13% tax

NVM, sold out here now too :D

I really don't have time to play the watch my Email for notifications and immediately buy game. I pre-ordered a 3900x from B&H. I didn't read the fine print and they've already charged my card. Says they expect it in on July 12th. We'll see. I don't really have time to build this weekend anyway. Also, I have no idea what motherboard I'm going to go with and those seem to be OOS everywhere as well.

I've seen a couple of notifications come through on Email, but I'm always hours late. Oh well. I've only been waiting since the launch of Zen+ for this so that I can pull the trigger. What's another month or two....sighhhhhhhhh.

According to nowinstock tracker for AMD Ryzen, the 3900X has been in stock at Newegg several times since launch, and always sold out within minutes.

I doubt Newegg has many large warehouses of their own and instead pulls their stock from Ingram Micro and the other big distributors, so their stock notifications are probably pulled from the aggregated warehouse notifications from their suppliers not from their own stores. So as their suppliers stock changes so do their notifiers, at this stage it means pretty little. I am just happy that my CDW rep was able to process an order for me even if the ETA for actual delivery could be a month from now.

Maybe this isn't a paper launch, but it's a low availability launch. I think AMD really dropped the ball here. We kept hearing about delays with the chipset which pushed back the launch date. They said there was nothing wrong with yields. They should have had plenty of time to get production completed before launch. Either they were full of crap about yields or the whole distribution system is garbage. How many individuals actually build computers anyway?

It's just really high demand and it takes awhile to move inventory around from docks to warehouses to retailers. When Ryzen first launched it was hell getting a motherboard, now it's hard to get the cpu. It will improve quite a bit over the next few weeks unless they truly do have a supply shortage.

There are millions of builders out there. Keep in mind that these are launching in more than just a couple countries and retail isn’t the only market they sell to. AMD doesn’t have a huge presence in the SI space but they still need to supply chips to those that offer AMD products.

Today was the day stock landed in the US !

MC in Paterson, NJ has EVERY new 3000 Series in stock and bundles of each.

The 3900X and 3800X do exist!

Waiting for stability before even considering purchasing.... however, I need everyone else to go crazy so that all the bugs can get worked out. These CPUs didn't go through near enough testing IMHO.

Was posting to say it was in stock at New Egg but when I double checked it was already gone in like 5 minutes. Sniping is probably the only way you're going to get one at this rate. I got lucky and was quick on the draw.

Yep, I got one this morning from newegg as well.

I don't know if a list that doesn't even have what's arguably the most popular SKU (3700x) listed, is good evidence against a paper launch claim.

The OP was for the 3900x so that is why I posted it. A quick check shows the 3700x in stock. The only paper launch was the 3800x, but AMD still had something available for just about everyone.

Did anyone else order from AMD.com? I ordered the morning of and it's still being processed. Go figure, the first item ordered will be the last to arrive.

After leaving Microcenter empty-handed with disappointment on 7/7, I was able to order a 3900X via Amazon on 7/8 afternoon. I was freaking out after placing the order when I saw a Reddit post claiming that the Amazon reseller I ordered from was a scam. Well, 3900X is currently introducing itself to her new friends in my old system (X470). Whatever AMD did, I am able to push G.Skill 4 x 8GB of 3200Mhz (14-14-14-34) to 3600Mhz (16-16-16-36). They couldn't do that on Asus Strix Z370-G even though the sticks are QVL for Intel, but not for AMD.

I read on Reddit that someone ordered his and received it.

My guess is they're swamped. This is the most hyped CPU launch in a looooooooooong time for AMD.

I am guessing that their On-line has NEVER been stressed? Not a dig but I can't think of another modern time that would warrant this activity. Anyone?

Installed my 3900X into my MSI B450 Gaming Carbon board

The Wireless caused BSOD after BSOD oddly, turned it off in BIOS and had no issue.

Gonnahave to see if there is updated drivers for it on the MSI website

Windows 10 1903 version BTW

Go get Intel's latest drivers for the WiFi and try again, if you need it. In general I wouldn't mess with drivers from MSIs site unless they're the only available ones or if the opposite occurs and the latest ones for whichever component are unstable.

x2 -- always get drivers from the manufacturer of the actual device/chipset -- never from the mobo/board manufacturer.

still nothing b&h says its the number one cpu on the site yet they have had no stock lololol number 1 and never any stock...

Picked my 3900x up online through Best Buy a week and a half ago, and got my ASUS Crossfire VIII Hero from Amazon last week.

It is a paper launch. I still couldn't get one in the EU, I've been looking for a listing since before launch. First listings appeared a week later, I ordered then, still nothing. They promised 23nd, then I got a message on 25th, that maybe they get some by 31st.

Well, one could call it "trickle launch"... as the CPU trickles through the retail chain, few pieces at a time.

I don't think you understand the demand.

I have been to my local Microcenter 2x since the release. Their reservation counter was stacked with Ryzen's both times. They keep selling out of the 3700 and 3800, and have been sold out of the 3900 since a week after the launch.

I almost reserved a 3900x a few days after launch, and decided to wait until I selected a mobo.........bad idea.

I think you don't understand that I wanted to order one since before the launch, but they didn't even take reservations. And I ordered one as soon as the listing appeared at a reputable retailer. Currently the 3900x only exists as hearsay in the EU. Some say they knew someone who saw someone who got one, but I've seen no first hand account of someone actually taking delivery in my region.

Getting a MB was a piece of cake, X570-s flooded the market the week before the launch of the CPU. If MB manufacturers were able to keep up with demand, then it's AMD who dropped the ball, isn't it? At this rate my MB's replacement warranty will run out before I get an actual CPU.

I got one here in EU, but i had connections - i got it through a friends shop, who got a total of 4 pieces of 3900X since the launch and he reserved one just for me. In comparison, the biggest eshop in my country often shows stats about how many items they sold in last week. They sold a total of 13 units of 3900X last week. An eshop with turnover of nearly 1B euros, serving mostly two countries with a total of 15M citizens (they are expanding to other EU countries too), and they got just 13 units of 3900X in last 7 days, because they are constantly showing out of stock.
In comparison, 3700X shows "20 customers bought today" and "200 customers bought last week".

So yeah, at best 3900X is "trickle launch" in EU, if you do not want to call it paper launch. Wouldn't be surprised if the total number of 3900X sold in 3 weeks since launch was still only in hundreds in whole EU.
