Will an ASUS ROG STRIX B350-I support a Ryzen 7 3700x?

Their support site does show it on the CPU support list with the appropriate BIOS update:

Ryzen7 3700X (3.6GHz,65W,L3:32M,8C,B0) ALL 4801

You will want to flash to the 4801 minimum BIOS before putting the new CPU in. 5008 is the latest so that would be best to flash it to.

Thanks. Going to wait a while. Just wanted to know that it was compatible.

Any idea if of the improvement over the 1700 with the B350?

Can't honestly answer that. Based on what I have seen it should be quite a bit faster than the 1700.

Probably work ok. I'm running 3700x on x370-i motherboard and it hit 4.4 boost. Stock settings PBO enabled.

Loaded question, are you referring to running in general? With a BIOS update, I believe all of ASUS's AM4 socket boards are now compatible with the 3rd gen Ryzen processors.

If you are referring more to overclocking and whether the VRM is beefy enough, that has been compiled by redditr CR1318 fairly elaborately:

(If you are unable to view, the VRM on the B350-I actually has some long last VRM that shoulde even handle a 3900X.)

If you are referring to reverse PCI-e 4.0 support, ASUS B350-I with the correct BIOS (5008) does have a limited PCIe- Gen 4.0 on devices that are directly wired to the SoC. (I think only the x16 lane, and not the m.2)

Hopefully that helps!

Clear improvement but you will be even better with a 3900x or wait for the 3950x without OC. Depends on how much you want to pay.
However you should wait for the BIOS fix. It's buggy now and waiting for an AMD fix. And I bet Intel may announce their 10 core 5.2Ghz (on 1 core) at $500 at the end of August and AMD will need to drop somehow their price because 10 core may beat in any case 3900x 12 core AMD.
