Microsoft Tries Sneaking Telemetry Into Windows 7 "Security-Only" Update

Yet everyone keeps using them, who is the bigger idiot? LOL

My comment doesn't call anyone an idiot, but liars, cheats, and propagandists

People use MS stuff due to lack of effective alternative options, though.

In his defense, when I see posts like the one with guy screaming "TELEMETRY!!!", it genuinely shows that most people don't care.
They should care, though, and years from now, it is going to bite them in the ass in ways they can't even imagine.

Microsoft is a megacorp, and at this point in time, may very well be the worst of them all, with Google being a not-so-distant second runner up, Apple tailing them, and Amazon following close suit.
Pick your poison - they are the future, and they are here to stay for the long haul.

What was once a bad sci-fi fantasy of a dystopian future that could never happen is actually happening, and oddly enough, people are ok with their 1984 Brave New World of a reality - as long as they get their "free" shit.
Nothing in this world is free, though, and they will, and are paying for all of this, with their lives.

I hope you all enjoy the dark cyberpunk future that soon approaches, because it is going to enjoy all of you!

There are alternatives, people just refuse to look at them or are lazy, it’s one thing to complain about it, its another to take action and show MS that they have gone too far...

Yes, I am lazy.
Microsoft has gone too far this time.
I really am going to look into trying to start actively looking at starting an experimental Linux rig.
heh.

In all fairness , I've had MS updates (for win10) do some great fixes on the fly-overnight too.
I like the idea of active telemetry helping the OS get better, but the semi-malicious microtransaction thing sucks.

:meh:

I do not dual boot and have not in a long time, anymore. If I want to run Linux on bare bones hardware, I will just wipe one of my 3 computers, which are all pretty fast, and install Linux on one of them.
You can setup a default selection or boot to last OS with a 5s time out to switch if you want to. Pretty painless.

You are right but, I would rather just use a dedicated machine for something like that.

Windows 7 isn't going anywhere until Microsoft pulls their heads out and builds a proper successor to it, no matter how much anyone screams "EOL 2020! Better install 10!", it'll be around for the next decade+.

supposedly win10 is the last "version" of windows. they said they are just going to keep updating it and adding features. kind of how apple's done with os X

and there have also been automatic updates that have bricked peoples computers. can you imagine how you'd feel if that had happened to you?

just did a search about Microsoft Telemetry and came across the following:

Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry is a service in Windows 10 which contains technical data about
how Windows devices and its related software are working and send this data periodically to
Microsoft so as to enhance the user experience by fixing the Potential issues that occur.

"to enhance the user experience" ... they know that's what most users lust after

But how can they keep us safe without knowing everything about us?! Lame, I want telemetry in my os as much as Bill Gates wants his prostate to get acupuncture.

Oh I do.
Just because the automatic update I got only tried to extort money , doesn't mean I don't understand.

It's a positive and negative thing.....right now I'm firmly in the negative side because Microsoft ransomware is not cool.
That does not mean their automatic updates have not helped me as well, because they have.
