Ok so this is how I got my 3800x from Newegg.
First off, it came in a box that said Surepost on it, not the typical box from NewEgg.
Second it had NO box, meaning the cooler was wrapped in brown paper along with the small box the CPU was in. (See Pictures)
I called Newegg right away and sent them pictures. This is un-freaking believable that this can happen.
Im not even sure this is the right cooler for this CPU.

lol they shipped you a bare cpu box and when it broke usps or whomever tossed it in that big box and sent it to you.

good stuff newegg.

bet they deny your RMA because of bent cpu pins just to fucking rub it in.

also maybe black out your name and addy.

I'm so disgusted i forgot my address on there.
Pins look fine just eyeing them.

doesnt it come in a box like i got with my 2700x last year? i would be to concerned if it works but im just wondering where the usual box went?

everytime i order shit from newegg, even if i pay, its this slow ass half witt surepost nonesence... it always took like 2 weeks to get from ca to pa.. its just an odd shipping arrangement but im sure it saves them cash..

i feel for you man, my blood would be hot if i seen that shit in my house...

Call your CC company and dispute it. Im pretty sure they will be able to help.you If Newegg tries to fuck you.

I get pistachios from Amazon and the bags are always destroyed when we get them. Sad way to do business.

Its sure is, I was shocked when I came home to see my 1080 just laying there with no packaging whatsoever, just some plastic film around it that's it. So does your CPU work?

Yeah it works, but going to get a replacement just in case.

I just noticed your kind of like me around HardForum, we both joined a month apart in 2006 and still haven't broken 1000 posts, I was a Limp Gawd forever lol.

Did you order with a Newegg subvendor? I've done tons of orders from them before and never ever received such items in such condition. Glad they are shipping a replacement.

No, I make sure I click the Newegg sale only, this came direct from NewEgg.

Not a processor (this isn't really a thread about processors), but I ordered a headphone amp with tubes from Amazon. First one came in the product box, no shipping box, and it lacked tape. Literally could have fallen out. The unit looked perfect except they sent the wrong color. I don't do red, let alone shiny anodized red, and I'd ordered black.

Did the return with the description above, ordered another after to writing a review, and the next one was black- and it had tape.

Still no shipping box.

companies love surepost because they can pass off the last leg of the shipping onto the postoffice and save some money

And USPS has the option to stick it in your mailbox, something neither Fedex nor UPS can do themselves, and it adds a convenient possibility between 'leave it on the doorstep for everyone to see' and 'don't deliver without a signature'.

i was right!

they third partied you.

now it's gonna be a pain in the ass to get satisfaction if Newegg tells you to fuck off.

I'm fighting Newegg right now with a cpu cooler that was supposedly sent out this week that I cancelled in plenty time while it sat in processing for 3 days. Reason being it went on sale only several hours after I purchased it and tried to get the discount. Newegg said contact the seller, I said no so I played their game and canceled then reorder. Of course the 3rd party didn't reply back until after they shipped it and said sorry already went out. They then updated the order with a tracking number that said it was already delivered on April 25th, over 3 months ago. Glad I paid by Paypal as I have a dispute filed already. Never 3rd party again from Newegg...

Did you at least see how well it clocks? If it's a high clocking chip I would just stress test it for 24 hrs and keep it.

NE should replace the cooler if it was damaged, but who knows, you might have a golden chip there that you might exchange for a dud.

Just a thought.

When I shop Newegg anymore, I make sure I click the newegg supplier button, that way it is sold directly from them.

I am not use to seeing all these sellers on Newegg and my account is 18 years old. I have never an issue when SPEAKING to an Egg rep and always have had everything resolved.

That sucks Dave. I hope they don't BS you over. Explain to them how important your build is... they might surprise you. I have a few times.

I had amazon last week ship me a package of ram in a big box with other items ordered inside, no bubble wrap around it just some air bags in the shipping box. Ram ended up under a package of bed linens. Surprised the plastic packaging didnt even get dented or broken.

Funny thing is, they already credited my account and I still have the CPU. Never had that happen before.
Could not get a 3800X so I got the 3700x instead. Saved a few bucks.

Had ram mailed that way myself.

UPS doesn't really do their own long haul ground shipping anymore.. they basically hitch a ride on the cross country contract haulers USPS uses, it arrives at a USPS distribution center and is separated and sent to UPS(USPS does the same thing for FedEx as well).

surepost is the contract name between UPS and USPS.. UPS is still responsible for anything that happens to the package, not USPS. basically the same guidelines set by the fedex USPS airmail contract where even if fedex breaks the package and it's obvious it was fedex, they can't be held responsible for it.

either way it falls on neweggs sholders unless it went through a 3rd party seller.

as some one who has to deal with amazons shitty ass packaging on a daily basis their shipping model sucks.. they just use the same generic boxes, if the person happened to grab the wrong one or what ever you're shipping is slightly too big to fit in the smaller box then you get the medium box with no filler, then they expect us to some how not destroy it when we have to stack 400+ pounds of mail/packages on top of that crap in air freight containers. if i was allowed to post pictures of some of the crap we deal with i think people would have a better appreciation for their stuff arriving unbroken. but if you think it's bad now, wait til they start doing their own air freight..

I've had a ceramic electric radiator shipped from Amazon in retail packaging, arrived looking like someone dropkicked it.

The other day I ordered an led lightbulb from lowes, arrived via fedex in a bubble mailer. The bulb had come out of the retail packaging, which itself had folded flat... or maybe they did that before putting it in the bubble mailer...

Did your package get delayed while going up/down the east coast? I remember a USPS tractor trailer split open on the beltway right around this time, stuff was everywhere.

Those bulb packages aren't taped shut in any fashion so any pressure will squeeze the bulb out...great for the store when people do returns, but no good for envelope shipping.

It's actually both- depending on the route between source and destination as well as designated service level, USPS stuff may ride on UPS transport and vice-versa. Loaded plenty of USPS mail onto UPS aircraft and have received plenty of UPS and Fedex stuff in the mailbox.

And both have the opportunity to mangle your shipment.

Newegg should be black balled just for using UPS. My neighbor bought a PSU, it took twice as long as it should have to get to him and the box was all out of shape, the PSU was bent and that box was crushed down on one side. Really pathetic!

And I've never gotten a busted-up UPS package, nor have I had issues with delivery times. Usually arrive sooner. And I spent eight years in a UPS sorting facility watching stuff get busted!

In general, package damage can happen at any point and for many, many reasons, as can delays. Some of which are unnavoidable, but if they're not and a level of service was guaranteed, you can claim that shipping cost.

Also, local delivery centers have a large effect on how last mile service is perceived, and, this applies to all delivery services.
