Despite what AMD says in drivers, did s.o. test Ryzen 3000+Windows 7

In France it's nearly non available. You can buy it for more than 600 euros (should be less than 550) but have to wait a couple of weeks, but generally they won't respect that and they get your money but would send the CPU whenever they want. Amazon Europe sells it at the "standard" price, 540 euros but "generally available in one month or two" means they have no date. At AMD USA directly, same thing, not in stock. But I'd like to buy it from France since I will retrieve it from my professional taxes.

Mind, even if 1 euro is more expensive than 1 dollar, much higher taxes must be applied in France, starting with 20% VTA. This is why the standard price for Ryzen 9 3900X is 540 euros.

CaseKing will ship as soon as it's in stock and has them for retail pricing: https://www.caseking.de/en/amd-ryzen-9-3900x-3-8-ghz-matisse-socket-am4-boxed-hpam-164.html

Well I swapped the hard drive from my C2Q system to the new ryzen 2600 system I put together. I pre-downloaded the drivers for everything before hand made the swap and booted with PS2 keyboard and mouse untill USB drivers were installed. Everything works fine. No problems. FYI. The mobo manufacturer and AMD both have full drivers available for Win7. Seems like its supported to me?

In fact Windows 10 would make my business much much more expensive to run. I would lose money on new software that I should learn and reinstall, would lose plenty of money lost in time, too long unnecessary updates, faulty updates, software uninstalled by Microsoft, continuously modified UI in non documented ways you have to relearn, interface reconfigured by default at each major update.
Nobody's got the feeling their are getting screwed by Microsoft ?
The principle is simple : the more time you spend on their problem, the more you pay attention to their problem, you will imagine important, and the more you will end paying to Microsoft. All the big software companies are using this principle now to extort more money from you without bringing anything new. In all those companies the developers have been brought down to a few people compared to thousands of salesmen who, the most of them do not even know the product they are selling you.

Well youre gonna face the change eventually. You will have no choice.

Got win 7 on b450. Use HP usb driver prep software. Msi has driver for 2000 series win7 and they worked on the b450i from msi and Asus. Good luck.

P.s. I use winxp almost weekly. I got ebola from it becuz muh sekuritay out of support oyyy vey!

Awww, how cute! Now why don't you show us the real Windows 10 control panel!

It's there too- I actually find myself using it almost exclusively, as Microsoft has gotten nearly everything ported over. Just pointing out that they've left the classic one in there with full functionality.

I'm well aware most of the old panels are still there, but not all.

Let's see you out-pr0n this:

Well with Windows 8 you could get to 8.9. 7.9 is max for Windows 7.

Made sense to someone!

How do people using Ryzen 3000 with Windows 7 feel (especially Ryzen 3900X) ? Ryzen 3000 seem to have problems with some Bioses on some motherboards, on Nvidia Turing cards, some AMD Navi graphic cards. Because most people use Windows 10 and Linux, the trouble is reported on those systems.

I got XP running on a 3900X

Virtualized or full OS running ? How much RAM used ? In some cases with more than 3 or 4GB ram XP won't boot.
That could be interesting. Means I can make an XP or a Win 7 32 bit box with an Asus A320i with a Ryzen 1200 and come compatible graphics card like HD 6450.

Full OS, but it's really not on a 3900X. it's a 9950.

I just managed to finish installing Windows 7 on Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and Gigabyte B450 AORUS Elite. I needed a PS/2 mouse to complete the installation though. And of course, since the USB chipset drivers were still not present, I had to download the necessary drivers using the onscreen keyboard.

Do your USB ports function normally? I 've read some conflicting reports about whether some "modified" drivers work flawlessly or not.

For the record, i have a (castrated) Turing card (Tu116 core) and it works flawlessly under Win7.

Some problems might be BIOS related, linked to specific BIOS versions. For instance, i was running fine and dandy, but i got the itch to update the MSI BIOS to the first version that had explicit support to Ryzen 3000 (in reality the version i was running, had also a "support for future CPUs", but i guess it was immature). That was a very bad idea. It came with the new "lite" version of the UEFI (because MSI has run out of space for new CPU codes, so they cut down on graphics of the UEFI, giving you an UEFI that seemed the one of AM3+ days), but even worse, i had severe problems to boot. The motherboard was having the diagnostic led lit on "CPU" and wouldn't boot, even after 10 attempts. At first i thought the CPU was fried by some weird overvoltage due to the new BIOS. At the end i managed to boot, but the RAM wouldn't run at the same timings like before and every attempt to change RAM settings, would lock the boot again, red diagnostic LED etc. Finally i went back to my previous BIOS (the last one with the complete graphics) and i don't touch it again. Since then MSI released new BIOSes, but i am in no hurry to try them.

Aside that, AMD's B450 drivers and NVidia's drivers both support Win7 and the system is running as stable as it can get.

i use serva to install windows on everything. it works over your network,

you give it the drivers you need and it preloads them for you.

mouse keyboard and all usbs and nic and whatever just work.

Thanks. I can make a Win7 DVD or Flash drive with preinstalled USB3 drivers, even if i don't have serva. What's important is to know that your USB ports work normally, because AFAIK the main issue is the USB driver support, which officially doesn't exist for Ryzen 3000 and Win7. So if they work fine for you, this is good news for me.

I am about to attempt the same in a couple days. Did you find a way to download all the windows updates you need?\
Also would the install have worked with just a PS/2 keyboard? Cause I have that but not a PS/2 mouse.

I can help with that. You can find here 2 different methods of getting all the updates.

Personally i have made my own DVD with slipstreamed the updates + the AMD USB3 drivers for my Ryzen 2600 and works flawlessly. With Ryzen3000 you probably have to use the "modified USB3 drivers for Ryzen3000" though, which i had found in another forum (i think it was called winraid or something). You can also buy a USB to PS2 dongle i guess...

My main concern about this strategy, is that some update might come for Win10 that breaks the modified USB3 drivers that work now and nobody releases a new version. So i may end up getting a Ryzen 2700 at the end.

Actually this was a stupid remark i made. Win10 will always have updated AMD drivers and Win7 since it won't ever get new updates again, it is impossible to have the modified driver to break. So as long as this driver works fine, Win7 should be fine. If anything, i 'd have to live with the the MSI "lite" UEFI, which frankly doesn't thrill me.

I just built my new PC and made a passing attempt at installing win7. First issue is that it says I am missing required CD/DVD drivers. I'll figure it out.
But I am curious - what was your strategy for slipstreaming the updates? All I know how to do is download them one at a time from microsoft update catalog

Go to the link i posted, then to post #36 and download the pack (about 850MB). Then i use this:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/9xhl64b8ve8tjf0/Integrate.7z/file
The "DRIVERS" folder is one i made myself with the B450 USB3 drivers for Ryzen 2000. Use them in the "Drivers" folder of the "Up7integrator". Then you need to put the Updatepack (maybe you need to rename it to "UpdatePack7R2.exe" (i don't remember) in the respective folder of the "UP7Integrator". You also need to put a Win7SP1 image (ISO file) inside the "image" folder. Then run with admin priviledges "Up7Integrator.cmd" and it does everything for you. You will end up with an ISO (image) file which contains all the updates except those for Spectre vulnerability and with all telemetry disabled, as well as USB3 drivers (install them again once you 've installed Windows anyway, using AMD's chipset driver package). Mind you, last time i did it about a month ago, i had to do a slight overburn on the dvd (free space shows as 0MB). Now it may have grown a bit bigger. In that case,if you don't have a Blu ray burner, you can make a USB installation flash drive instead. Just take the ISO made with UP7Integrator and make a bootable flash drive using MSI's tool (go to an MSI B450 motherboard and look at utilities. There is something called "MSI Smart tool" or something. It will take the image and turn it into bootable flash drive with 1 click.

Done in this way, i never had problems with "CD/DVD drivers". The only problem was always the missing USB3 drivers, because you get no keyboard or mouse. If you slipstream as i told you, there is no issue whatsoever, you don't need PS2 mouse or keyboard and everything just works fine.

I'm using the Asus tool to do that on an W7SP1 image from my DVD W7 install, then reburn it. One can do that on a Windows 7 image downloaded. I then put all the drivers needed on an USB key which will be able to be read. If you use a sata DVD drive there shouldn't be a problem reading it. If you use a USB DVD drive you need to put your slipstreamed windows 7 install on a bootable USB key. There is a MS tool to do so.

There are 3.5 issues.
0 (0.5 issue) : Same even on Haswell considred by MS compatible, you need USB and AHCI/raid support that is not included in original Windows 7 even SP1. You need to slipstream windows DVD/USB or need to use the USB2 ports (compatible but not always set), and keyboard and/or mouse on PS port , and a sata DVD drive.
1: MS set some updates stopping the updates and showing a panel showing incompatible hardware bla bla. Nothing more since it's compatible. There is hack to go over that and regain updates. Same problem for Skylake.
2: Ryzen 300 has renamed their USB3 hardware name (but seems 100% the same). You need to change the text in the inf files of the USB drivers from AMD to revert the incompatibility.
3: X570 chipset needs the exact same hack on the inf file on the USB drivers. X570 chipset is the same chip as the IO chiplet on a Ryzen 3000 CPU.
Also, you won't profit from the PCIE 4.0 under Windows 7.
There is no DX12. You stay on DX 11 (not a big deal sometime faster especially on Nvidia older than Turing cards and on Navi).
No Ray Trace on Turing (not a big deal for now really - people are used to deactivate RT to regain performance which is more interesting).

Advantage : stable, no bugs, no forced updates so your OS stays the same, with same UI forever, and better UI, no failing compatibility on software already installed after an OS update, to some extent lesser spyware from MS and even then, very well known on WIndows 7, not changing, and very easy to block. Windows 7 is faster in many situations. There is no proof yet that Windows 7 has the 16 core limitation bug as Windows 10 until very recently. Needs to be proved on Threadripper, since it's already known to work on Intel. IBM proved internally based on testing thousands of people during several years, that people using Apple UI (close to Windows 7) are much more productive than those using Windows 10 UI.

Finding someone who installed Windows 7 on their bigger than 16 core Threadripper system is difficult because it's a pain to install on X399 (not yet done on TRX 40).
2970X and 2990X on X399 may be installed with this procedure :
Use Windows 7 chipset drivers from AMD, same procedure as Ryzen 2000, PCIe 3.0 dropped to PCIe 2.0 in the BIOS (mandatory), using Raid 1 for booting (need to install drivers at Windows install slipstreamed with USB drivers). Install the hack against Microsoft blocking Zen updates after march 2017. Grab all the audio and other Windows 7 drivers needed from commanies buiding the chips on your mother board and install them. Everything should then run fine. One needs to see if for instance Blender renders using all the cores and that scales with a smaller CPU using 16 cores or less.
Not sure about how to handle TRX 40 chipsert. Nobody ever did that but the x570 and Ryzen 3000 procedure for USB 3 and downgrading PCIe 4.0 to 2.0 in the BIOS may work.
