Are we going to see any? So far the only "budget" options for an high frequency monitor are either TN or VA, and no matter how good they are getting i still hate TN and while i never tried a VA the ghosting stuff makes me weary and i'm spoiled by my IPS screen when it comes to colors and viewing angles.

Those are best i can find, for 1080p and 2k respectively:

The Acer is way out of my budget and the Asus is also pretty steep as well.

Are we going to see better options in the near future or is this how it's going to be for the next several years?

Acer XF270HU

Too expensive compared to the VAs out there:

Is IPS really that superior to justify double the price?

I'd probably would have gotten that panel but in their infinite wisdom Samsung decided not to include Freesync on that particular model or its follow up, but they have on the 1080p version, 'cause that makes sense i guess?

I don't think IPS is superior and actually prefer VA. I like the better black levels and contrast of a VA and to my eyes, it makes images and graphics in games look much better. Yeah IPS has the better color but VA isn't far off and the better contrast is worth the tradeoff IMO.

I don’t think the IPS are so expensive due to being superior, but due to how much more difficult it is to manufacture an IPS panel that goes up to 144hz with acceptable response times and other things that matter for gaming. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure that’s the main reason they cost so much.

I’d have preferred a VA but couldn’t find one with specs I wanted that wasn’t curved for some reason. So I bought the Acer XF270HU from Acers refurbished store for $350 USD. I also own a Dell 2719DGF and the Acer is significantly better in my opinion. TN panel gamma/brightness shift drives me nuts. That’s why I replaced the Dell with the Acer and the Dell is on my secondary PC. Try seeing if there’s an Acer refurbished store for your country. You can tack on an additional warranty for pretty cheap and might find a better bargain or just wait until everything matured enough to drop down in price.

Edit: Try the Pixio PX275h. Not 144hz though.

One question about the C27JG50. Would it be possible to hack Freesync into it? While ago i ran into this:

I'm almost tempted to try it, but if it doesn't work i'm left with a useless monitor. I just haaaaate having to deal with screen tearing, vsync etc.

LG 27GL850 2K ~432Euro
LG 27GL650F Full HD isn't available yet.

Been waiting for years but we're finally getting proliferation of 1080p IPS 144hz displays, especially at <27in sizes now.

The Acer Nitro VG240Y Pbiip is now available at Amazon for $200.

This is a 23.8in 144hz IPS display using a panel by Panda (a Chinese manufacturer). It's a lower end 6bit+frc and slower reponse time officially compared to others (listed as 7.5ms), will need to see how the individual implementations are. Phillips and AOC will also be launching monitors using this panel.

AUO (who's been making the "old" by now 1440p 144hz IPS panels) is also volume manufacturing a 24.5in 1080p 144hz panel. Acer and Asus are already known to be introducing monitors using this panel. The Acer XV253Q P is already listed as DisplayHDR 400 certified. This means it should be close and also would be an 8 bit panel (instead of 6bit+frc).
