3900x is hot and I need to cool her better.

I just started getting a new 3900x system up, and I have noticed it is a hot CPU with the stock cooler, the wraith work great with the 2700x but this CPU is pushing much more power then that ever could and it shows, the CPU is idling at 60-66oC, hitting 70oC under light load and getting up to 80+ when all the cores are working, It keeps the all core boost up to 4.0GHz but the temps keep the single core boost from exceeding 4.275GHz so I need a much more robust cooling solution to get the most out of my CPU.

I need the best Air cooler I can pair with this CPU Socket, I'm going to start to look but I figured you guys might have some ideas too, I would like something with at least 200Watts of thermal cooling on air so she can be big, there was one a cooler from cooler master called the v10 its discontinued and only on the LGA platform but if there is something that can do the same job or come close I would like to know.


BTW I know the 200watts requirement is going to get ppl saying go with a 240mm AIO but I have had 3 AIO pumps fail on me in the past and I'm done with messing with that stuff.

anyway let me know what you guys think and one last thing it needs to be available to Canada at least in some capacity


BTW my Case is a Fractal Meshify C so i have room but there is a limit to how big the cooler can be
 
A lot of boards are over-volting the CPU and not by a small amount. That said, I got my voltages and temperature well under control on my 3900x and it too will not boost past 4.3GHz, if it even gets that high. I'm usually somewhere between 4.2-4.3. I'm hoping this will be resolved in a bios update.
 
Lower your voltage.

I've started whole threads about this.

Lower until its 1.32 ish full load. Idle might spike to 1.45plus but it's safe at idle since no current is being drawn hence no thermal load. Loaded should pull no more than 1.35 maximum.

Use your negative offset function andndial.it to around -0.035v offset. Should work great.

My temps went from 90s to 75c full.load just dropping the voltage.

I've got mine stable at 1.29v and can go less alot more I'm sure. I hit 4400 on my chip.

What are you boosting at?
 
I just went through some research. I wanted to stay air cooled and here what I came up with

Buget cooler: scythe Mugen 5 rev B

Mid range: thermalright macho 140 or be quiet dark 4 pro

Upper range: Noctua d14/d15 if you have room to mount etc...

I've got mine stable at 1.29v and can go less alot more I'm sure. I hit 4400 on my chip.

Will do a Vcore offset like you said, it does seem to be pushing alot a voltage to the CPU on default setting, I'm getting a average reported in CPUid of 1.44v
 
lowered my Vcore by a -0.035v offset and it is going to a average of 1.33v under all core load but is still super hot hitting 87oC on a cinabench run, I looked around and found a Noctua d15, it does not seem to have a bracket for AM4 so i will need to bust out the drill I guess.....

... J/K I figured i will need to order one from noctua so im going to look in to emailing them for a bracket kit.

In the mean time im going to tweak my negative offset some more and might disable some cores to reduce the heat until i get the cooler on.
 
This is off topic but how's the fan noise on your GB X570?
 
ya she is quite, I hear the CPU fan every so often ramp up but that's it

Got the Noctua d15 mounted and it took my idle temps down by 20oC and max load temps by 10-15oC, it now peaks at 76oC under full load, 40 runs with intel burn test v2 holding all core boost at 4.0GHz, this is more then likly the best i will do for a pure air solution, I could get the temps down some more if i fitted the second fan on the cooler but that would require me to move my memory to a non optimal order on the MODB and I might have issues running the memory in dual channel mode

Also running a offest of -0.0375 and all is stable and well, full load vcore is now 1.31vish dipping in to the 1.26v when the burntest would start a new run and leveling out at 1.31-1.33v under load.

single core boost got to 4.25GHz vs 4.2GHz lol, you need water cooling to get a higher boost i think or exotic cool 0_o
