EA trying to rename Loot Boxes

Why don't people just play games like Bastion, Capsized, The Swapper, Pyre, Hob, etc. if they don't want loot boxes? Or against bots in some AAA games.

While many people hate them.. myself included.. These things will always exist because people buy them. They have voted with there wallet.. Sorry but these things are here to stay.

wahh wahh wahhh loot boxes are ruining it for the rest of us.... wahh wahhh.. aren't most of them just cosmetics?

In a way, I can't really blame EA, no more than some dick head charging $14 for a POS hot dog outside of a stadium. Why? Because someone is clearly buying this shit, and why not capitalize on someone else's foolish purchases?

Amurica.... Boycott with your wallet people or this stuff is here to stay.

I've been doing that since the days of Horse Armor (tm). However, the problem is that the ROI is completely out of wack when it comes to anything out of the gaming monetization schemes that are consumer unfriendly (ie from Korean item mall garbage, to mobile gaming gatchapon garbage, to many others). You and I and a thousand of our friends can refuse to buy the (cosmetic or otherwise) DLC or item, but it only takes a very small amount of people doing so to make it worthwhile. Its relatively easy to add a single new set of armor, or weapon, or mount etc... in terms of actual development time - even less if the art team can work from existing models and whatnot (ie most things). So if someone sells those items for $5+ each, it only takes a few people buying them to cover the small amount of effort expended. Attempting to just not buy isn't enough, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it!

Thus, only huge boycotts with media involvement and whatnot, properly pulled off, can have a real effect when major AAA publishers, from EA to Epic, are throwing their money around. Of course, indies can be swayed a lot easier but they also don't usually involved themselves in these monetization practices. Ultimately when it comes to nasty AAA stuff, just because it may not always work doesn't mean you should just give up and/or give in - if nothing else, not giving them YOUR money is a moral victory and you've deprived them of a sale. Sadly, much of the gaming community and media often report, clickbait style, on boycotts "failing" which is even more discouraging and becomes self-fulfilling when less people think they can do anything in the future.

There are ways to change things for the better and it will take all sides - from legislation (in the case of gatcha/lootbox/gambling type mechanics) to gamers not defending corporate greed because "dev/publisher need make money" or some other variant thereof. We're in an era where game developers/publishers are buying huge amounts of personal and aggregate data for analysis, keeping data scientists, psychologists, and economists on staff specifically to make their games more exploitative for better monetization and we need to find a better way forward lest it only get worse and worse.

EA honestly believe you're all just stupid consumers, chances are they're probably right.

Strong opinion brought with snide attitude. Then comes a question about the basic funbdamental argument that you based your opinion on.

Try "get info and then form opinion" not " form opinion then get information"

In any democratic system the stupid majority will always dictate to the intelligent few.

This shit is never going away.
