Navi discussion thread

Best ones to slap a water block on and is what I did on my 290x, the rest just isn't worth a response to you on.
What no one mentioned is Nvidia FE cards are loosing the extra cost attached to them. Maybe because OEMs would just get a cheaper version elsewhere, plus NVidia perf/$ was clear out in the bleachers, at least now they are in left field.

Now who predicting AMD GPU's may outsell Nvidia's or make great headway?

Better off using the waterblock cost towards a higher tier card.

Id still slap a waterblock on it. I like the quiet more then anything else and reference cards work best for that purpose. Like I said if my 1080 dies today I would get a 5700XT to replace it as the price to performance ratio is good and I tend to stay around 400 bucks for a video card and hang on to them longer then most of you guys do. I am more interested in seeing what big Navi ends up doing performance wise and we get to see what ray tracing AMD can do as well, plus I figure Nvidia should be ready for their next gen so I will get a nice look and see if either of them can convince me to upgrade.

Ok so my 5700xt is an absolute beast and so is the 3900x in gaming.

I just played Battlefield V DX12 literally as maximum as the game will go. 3440x1440 Gsync (cant use that can I now hahaha) But with Vsync on @ 100hz the game was pegged at 100 and never even dropped to 99 fps.... I am more than please with this card.

Felt like my 2080ti but very smooth graphics. Cant explain it ... probably the enhanced IPC of the 3900x compared to my old Threadripper.

If you already have the infrastructure in place, sure- that's almost no one, relatively speaking, and for most, they're not sandbagging with lower-end GPUs.

the rest just isn't worth a response to you on.

I do realize that the AMD subforum is almost always a 'fact-free zone'.

Frankly I say it is Nvidia hype, the 5700XT cremes the 2060 Super as well as the 5700 the 2060 and the 5700XT virtually ties the 2070 Super. Both at the same price points for the lower tier Nvidia cards. Nvidia Super is not so super duper even with their massive price cut per performance it does not match AMD perf/$.

At current pricing, you'd need to spend that difference on a decent cooler, and then you'd still be without DXR / Vulkan RT hardware support.

As for the cooler, good grief, you can find blower coolers on Nvidia 2080 Ti's there is a place for them, people do want them. AIB partners should have some nice choices for those who prefer other cooling methods.

You can also find all manner of 2080 TIs that do not have a blower, but you can't for Navi, which is the point.

Personally I like the blower coolers and the AIO type cards that take the heat out of the case.

I prefer the AIOs too, but I'm done with blowers, most especially AMD blowers. GPU coolers are one of AMD's consistent failures.

Yes for some the noise can be bothersome for others

Just say, 'I like my GPUs loud and red', and we'll understand ;)

In this case AMD and OEM sells can be a big thing and having a quality blower card is actually important.

If they actually had a quality blower, that is.

With Ryzen 3 out, excitement up, AMD will have cards more fitting for the crowd who just wants to buy the whole computer and game.

These two things are not related except for those that fall on their faces over marketing.

I should be getting my Lisa Su signature card this Friday, should be able to play around with it this coming Sunday.

Everyone has their fetishes, but you should be aware that Dr. Su is a married woman.

Well you do post in it and your posts are usually fact free and full of bias. I just think it's funny you post so much on the AMD side of things yet you have 0 intentions of owning one. You should see a psychiatrist for that unhealthy obsession you have with AMD.

You should quote posts directly that you believe are non-factual alongside cross-referenced documentation.

I post in all forums, because it's really just one forum, and I have an AMD GPU in my system right now.

You're zero for two here.

Everything you post is opinion not fact. 5700XT is just as fast as your 1080Ti yet costs less, but somehow thats poor performance now. Always some supposed hype that AMD didnt live up to that is total bull and if anyone disagrees with you they are a total fanboy. Your entitled to have a opinion but stop pretending they are facts. Last I checked a 560 is not Navi and you have been clear you think Navi is garbage yet here you are posting about it. I think RTX is garbage, yet you dont see me posting in the Nvidia side constantly bashing it now do you? Even most of the press has agreed that Navi turned out better then they expected and is priced right, it did even better then I expected.

If he were criticizing the performance of a 5700XT in May of 2017 you'd have a point...

Time period is irrelevant. If a 1080Ti card died today the 5700XT would be a fine replacement for it. It's a mid range card producing the same performance as last generations top card for less money, heck the whole 2000 series from Nvidia is barely better then the last gen. The 2000 series has been a disappointment in my eyes, far to expensive and RTX features have been a bust, thus why I think the 5700 series has a decent chance to sell well.

I'm currently on a custom cooler/factory OC'd Vega 64 with few issues. An upgrade to a 5700 XT is a no brainer for me.

So you're not going to provide references?

I made no performance comparisons, especially not to a card as old as the 1080Ti.

They hyped up how quiet the cooler is, and that's objectively bull.

Haven't said Navi is garbage either.

I think RTX is garbage, yet you dont see me posting in the Nvidia side constantly bashing it now do you?

One is advancing the edge of industry technology, the other is barely catching up to their competitor's old products... the comparison makes total sense!

Even most of the press has agreed that Navi turned out better then they expected and is priced right, it did even better then I expected.

Which I did not refute.

You're at what, zero for eight or nine now?

:ROFLMAO:

GPU market is still in 2017. You could buy a 1080 Ti for ~600€. You can't get more performance for €600 still in July of 2019.

Time period is irrelevant.

It most certainly is relevant. Praise for the performance of the 660 Ti now would be very out of place if you had to pay the same price now for it that you had to pay then.

Currently, it's AMD's top tier card competing with nVidia's last (or second to last) generation top tier-ish card (1080 Ti was third from the top of that generation's tier, FYI). It is cheaper so I'll give you that.

It may thanks to price. If I were in the market for a new graphics card it would definitely be in my 'seriously looking at buying' queue (two more handguns to purchase first, though).

What I find to be most disappointing is it took an entire node shrink to even get close to parity with a product released two years ago. If we're going to assume that nVidia will never ever go to a smaller node then everything is perfect. If we're going to assume that nVidia will move to a smaller node then we're back to status quo.

I think we can all agree that status quo is unacceptable.

I go by what I can buy now, not what was available at one time is less important to me. I do agree it's not a amazing leap in performance but at least it has lowered the price for that level of performance. Which was more performance then I expected from it.

Not really worried about the fact that AMD is at a smaller node then Nvidia and is not dominating Nvidia. Nvidia still has to shrink a node and improve performance without massively increasing the price, things dont always go as planned just ask Intel. Both companies are likely to release top tier products next year so hopefully we can avoid one side having a dominant edge this time and hopefully prices will come back down. But I think the days of large performance gains on the gpu side might be numbered.

Polaris launched at $199, polaris replacement at almost double.
I'm more than pleasantly surprised with the performance, but the price leaves me wanting. It's only good when compared to the Nvidia tax.
I'll be watching from the bleachers until the price comes down, or picking up a heavily discounted Vega

If she is smart as people say, she will know a better thing when she see it, and going for that should be natural. :D

in the 700s range, hate to see what the non OEM (custom cooled) wll cost up here in the great white north.

took FOREVER the RX 4 and 5xx stayed at elevated pricing and folks had all kinds of tales as to the why even when dram pricing was not at higher than normal.

over 550 CAD is an atrocious deal imo, what is even more fubar as fk is many of the 5700 xt I have seen listed are same sometimes + the extra chunk (like should be) a few of them the 5700 xt was less pricey.

this is the 4/5xx all over again (with the remaining listed 4/5xx radeons bouncing in price all the time still, mk2 570 from 240 all the way to $380 even when currency exchange rates were favorable for months type thing.....

idiots.

IMO if AMD truly wants to make that difference is to ensure those places (like Canada) are not getting auto fk jacked on pricing all the damn time, life is expensive enough dang nabit ^.^

on another note, pricing on 2600/2700 x and non x and 3600, DRAM are absolutely nummy nummy right now, is that much more terrible that Radeon pricing (via sellers) is all kinds of stupid, am sure that folks who "forced" into buying that much beyond what should be, if anything "not work right" any kind of mindshare that AMD wants to establish gets screwed much more quickly (it seems) than for Intel/Nvidia "can do not wrong"
