Shenmue freaking 3 kickstarter! It's happening!

PC Physical version

The PC Physical version will be delivered on disk. However, the disk will contain the Epic Games Store installer and not the actual game data

Sweet, im gunna get that physical copy so i can have a EGS installer on disk lol

uh what? You just made up a bunch of crap so you can justify being unreasonable to yourself.

I didn’t make up shit. There was a previous Kickstarter that got sued and lost due to not offering a physical disc with the PC release.

This Kickstarter entered the same murky waters. It’s much cheaper and better PR to justify cave on the refunds than it is to test it in court. So, it’s reasonable to assume their lawyers advised them to do so.

They wouldn’t be doing this otherwise. They aren’t in the business of “caring.”

Secondly, wanting something to bend to the whim of the consumer is not unreasonable in a capitalist society. It’s actually the foundation of it.

I just want out and I’m getting my chance. That’s the end of it.

Basically, their lawyers looked over the Kickstarter and the communications. Determined that based on a previous lawsuit on a Kickstarter, they were in muddy water and would likely stand to lose even more money.

Epic, of course, blames Valve for this.

Reasonable people just want out of this dumpster fire.

Good luck trying to find Shenmue 4!

*awaits his $160*

Reasonable people don't want out of anything. Reasonable people would realize that if they backed the game during the main campaign, they paid for a "PC Digital Copy" with absolutely no implications of a Stream release to factor into their purchasing decision. Reasonable people would realize that because of Deep Silver and Epic's involvement, Shenmue 3 is going to be a bigger, better game than what was envisioned four years ago when it launched on Kickstarter. Reasonable people would realize that a better game on a worse platform is better than having a disappointing game released on Steam. Reasonable people would realize that it's not worth crying about and just enjoy the damn game.

There nothing in Epic's deal stopping Steam from giving out steam keys to play right away but Steam doesn't want to do that. You came to the conclusion that "LUL TIM SWEENEY BLAMES VALVE LULULUL".
You seem pretty unreasonable to me.

So you’ve seen their contract with Epic?

Kickstarter backers won't get content in pre-orders/deluxe edition, including the season pass?
https://www.resetera.com/threads/sh...ceive-preorder-deluxe-edition-bonuses.128243/

My understanding is that the standard edition only has a single kick scroll as a pre-order bonus, the rest of the extra content including the season pass being locked behind the deluxe edition. Truthfully, I'm not sure this bothers me. I backed a digital copy of the game for $29. If I waited and pre-ordered today, I would be paying $50... I'm good with not paying $21 extra for a move scroll. Same goes for the deluxe version which would essentially make the season pass $36. This stuff will be available as DLC down the road and I'm quite confident I will have paid less buying the DLC separate with my KS pledge than if I had just bought the game outright on EGS.

I can certainly see where giving people the deluxe edition would be a show of goodwill, especially through the EGS debacle, but I suspect it comes down them not being able to afford that. They need funding to create the DLC as well as continue the franchise, and that's obviously not happening through KS backers as their money funded the game. Only selling to non-backers might not create enough revenue to continue to support the game, but having a season pass to sell to backers might just create the influx of cash they need to keep things rolling. I'm fine buying the season pass later. They probably should have given the backers the pre-order bonus though... we did pre-order after all and a single move scroll neither really cost them much to make and if sold seperate likely won't generate very much revenue.

when the hell did entitlement become a thing? No kickstarter I have ever been a part of has handed out paid DLC.
Yet tonight I bet there will be a dozen youtube videos about it and most will probably find some way to blame EGS.

Shenmue was already being partially funded by Sony at the time of the kickstarter. They did the kickstarter to gauge interest and make extra money.

It was never some small indy dev team genuinely needing your help just to pay their bills. You're a fool if you thought you would get anything more than was explicitly stated. The whole thing was controlled by businesses in it to make money. They milked you once and they'll milk you again. And they won't be finished after that.

I don't feel any sympathy for backers that are complaining. I see the complaints as public admission to being an idiot.

oh spare me this milking bullshit. you can talk about milking if they introduce micro-transactions with loot boxes and various other monetization BS that happens in many AAA games.

For me what it would come down to is, was any of this content promised with the Kickstarter? Did they say you would get "everything", or just a standard copy of the game?

Just a standard copy with some KS only bonus I believe. People just like to pile on with then bitching when they don't get everything they were expecting even if was never promised to begin with.

So the PR stupidity continues with this game:

Release is on the 19th, I'm sure a lot of people are looking forward to it. I'm also sure a lot of people are waiting to see what reviews say. Well...If you want reviews from people getting codes from Koch Media then don't expect to see them until the embargo lifts on...November 21st. For some reason, Koch is trying to prevent review outlets from having a review live until after launch. Not really sure what they hope to accomplish by doing this as its not going to stop people from reviewing the game, all they'd have to do is not sign the NDA and buy their own copy. Not to mention, every single other people already buying the game will be able to post their thoughts on release day. This is really just a confusing and stupid move from Koch.

It probably is not going to review very well. It is going to continue to be a niche game that wont sell millions. I just don't see this being a game for the average gamer just like the original games. I am on the fence myself getting it. Just the fact it been what nearly 20 years since the first two came out? I would of like to replay the first two but I don't have the patience to go through those games now. They were a slough back then.

It's been clarified that review embargo lifts on the given release date for each territory. So, US review embargo lifts the 17th. The release date for the game in the UK is the 19th, and thus that's when the review embargo lifts over there. Still seems like a weird way to do it, but this isn't a "don't let people read the reviews until two days after release" situation.

I'm not so sure... nostalgia is a powerful thing. Any of the recent previews I've seen have all been positive. I expect a few negative reviews from people who just don't jive well with the games concept and/or have no prior experience... but I would be surprised if the overall media concurrences isn't positive. I don't think it'll be mind blowing, but I'm expecting to see a lot of ~8/10 reviews.
