Destiny 2

Well I just updated the BIOS on the MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE and no dice. Granted, I don't think this could address this issue specifically. I think the fix is going to be game side. The BIOS that I just got wasn't available prior to the embargo date being lifted, and this one will hopefully address the boost clock issues.

An update: AMD is aware of the issue and is investigating it. I have no ETA on a fix, nor any technical information as to what's causing the issue or where the fix will come from. That is, whether or not AMD has to do something via BIOS or microcode, or if Bungie has to patch the game.

There has been an update in the thread in the Bungie forums. They're looking for dump files to help determine the issue. I find it strange that a studio like Bungie doesn't have/can't get machines in house quickly to test this themselves.

I would think/hope Bungie is also getting some machines for in house testing as well. I'm sure AMD would overnight them a few Ryzen 3 PCs to test the game on if Bungie just asked for them. Even overnighted, that still takes time, so browsing through a bunch of dump files would be the way to go for now, imo.

Man, I had completely forgotten about your new site when I was reading Ryzen 3000 reviews...heading over there now, and I'm definitely bookmarking it for the future haha. Hope your ears survive the motherboard fans on your x570 testing!

What!? Is there a link to the new site that someone could share?

Sometimes it really feels like Bungie doesn't even play test the game. Like, when they were dumbfounded to learn that WotW's white nail would NOT always kick in and they couldn't do anything until the community submitted video, which took all of about 5 seconds for someone to do.

Honestly, Bungie does far better than a lot of game developers. The game receives updates quickly, and honestly there aren't that many issues given the size of the game. Being a game developer does not mean that AMD is going to send you their newest processors ahead of a launch to ensure they work. Frankly, CPU's not being able to run an application at all is incredibly rare. I didn't even consider that as a possibility when I was trying to test Destiny 2 with our Ryzen 9 3900X test sample. These processors use compatible instruction sets and games use the same API's to run. This shouldn't have happened and I don't think anyone would have had any reason to expect something like this. I haven't seen a processor compatibility issue since the late 1990's. Sure, sometimes an application or a game needs optimization to work with newer hardware, but I've not seen a processor simply fail to run something in years.

AMD was more likely to approach Bungie about its GPU's than CPU's. It really doesn't surprise me that Bungie never tested Ryzen 3000 series CPU's ahead of time. Bungie and AMD seem to be working rather quickly to resolve this issue and I'm reasonably certain that they will.

I have a feeling that there may be some sort of simple text-based check of the hardware going on and the game isn't launching because it thinks a Ryzen 3700 is an Athlon 3700.

I'm not at all surprised seeing I had to underclock my 7820X to get the game running without crashing.

Tips for the Bad Juju mission solo flawless.

Luna Warlock + Sniper + Wendigo

Play it slow. If your well is up when the last boss spawns, emptying Wendigo gets it done and its a 200 point triumph. There is a section where you can stock up on orbs to keep Wendigo fed which makes it much easier.

Really cool mission so I don't want to spoil any more of it but its easier than say the Chasm of Screams by far.

For high level end game content, they absolutely have an edge. There is absolutely no reason a Titan or Hunter can't solo flawless the mission but I just don't have any tips so good luck!

Outside of the stupid armbands they just look super sweet and are called warlocks! Though, in all honesty, when I picked that one first I was thinking more 'TechnoMage/Galen' ala Babylon 5 and less lower-cantrips with guns. Ooooh well (of radiance).

The biggest issue is that all Titan supers are really only suited for add clear. The two they have which are somewhat effective on bosses are still well behind Hunter and Warlock boss melting supers. Titans can probably kill more adds than Hunters or Warlocks but the difference isn't as pronounced. Their support tools also aren't as useful. Bubble / Shield has nothing on the Well of Radiance, or even the Hunter's Tether. I'd also argue that even after the nerfs, Hunters and Warlocks also have an edge on exotics which help their supers. Either do more damage or return energy. On the former, Titans have nothing really. On the latter, Titans have the Ursa's but again, that super isn't really all that great. There is always the Doomfangs, but again, thats for add clear. Something a bottom tree Sentinel Titan / Doomfang combo probably does better than anything else.

Titan's can use their melting point on bosses which is very useful, but its very hard to apply in some situations.

Bubble has become quite useful for ensuring a safe deception shield break in CoS on the last encounter. Also Shoulder Charge with Peregrine Grieves for taking out the ogres. Kinda made playing my Titan for CoS fun again.

I wanted to like Titans, but even in 1 they felt markedly behind Hunters and Warlocks.

Warlocks - Best PVE
Hunters - Best PVP
Titans - Meh, but they look cool.

Obviously on top of things with that game testing. I kid.

Honestly though, Destiny 2 had been the most unstable game I have ever installed on my machine with network issues and lockups and crashes, also probably the game I've spent the most time in too. As someone mentioned earlier, it REALLY does not like overclocks, regardless of how stable a system is in any other form of stress test or game. I've just learned to deal with it now.

Not yet decided I'll go into the next dlc or what not. I haven't gotten into the last two seasons at all. Still need to unlock like half the chalice stuff.

The primary reason I stopped playing, then uninstalled the game once months passed with no acknowledgment and realized there was no hope. Bungie has to have the worst development structure of all the tripleA devs.

There's indie devs that do a better job at something as simple as class balance. Esp when your game only has three classes, there's no excuse. Bungie wouldn't even respond to the hundreds of 'state of the Titan class' posts, at the top of the sub every single week.

IDK if they are the worst I played Anthem...

To be fair, you could say that about just about any MMO out there. Titans aren't terrible by any means. I'd honestly put them right up there with hunters for pvp right now. Bottom tree striker is borderline broken, and One Eyed Mask is still the best pvp exotic in the game even after all the nerfs. For PVE, they aren't quite as good as the others, but it's not like it's a detriment to bring a few to a raid. Melting point is always good, and bubble is situationally quite useful.

The good news is, now that Bungie is free from Activision, they have a lot coming down the pipe that they couldn't do before

Ugh that game still makes me mad, and I haven't touched it in many months. Bioware had a solid game at its core, and then proceeded to fuck up literally everything they possibly could. Then they refused to listen to anything the community brought up, and they eventually refused to even talk to the community because they were too butthurt that everyone was giving valid criticism of their game. Don't know that I'll every buy one of their games again at this point.

I've not experienced that. I've run Destiny 2 on a variety of configurations with various overclocks and I've never run into that issue. If your overclock is truly stable, nothing should crash the system that wouldn't crash a stock machine.

The problem is, how many of the complaints are legitimate and how many of them are a case of people needing to "git gud" at the game? Often times listening to that vocal minority is a very bad idea. I can explain in great detail how this was a problem with Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The flight was fantastic, all they had to do therr was make it a central mechanic (no heat, and in flight combat). Still the rest of the game is unfinished biogarbage, they are a shadow of the company that made ME2 and prior titles.

Indeed. I couldn't agree more.

Eh, it's been mentioned on here, the Bungie forums, Reddit, etc. The ONLY thing that ever causes me any issues is Destiny. At that point, is it my system or Destiny? It happens if my system is +100 mhz or +500mhz, I've spent hours chasing it. Hasn't actually done it for around a month or so if I had to guess.

Question for you all though, anyone get bad juju yet? I did the 4 bounties and turned in the triumphs I got from that. So, how do I get more, ie enough to open that quest and get that chest? Just random triumphs? I toyed with it for a minute last night and I scratched my head a little and turned it off.

Well I really wish I would have watched this video before opening the tribute hall ....

I was wearing the entire opulent scholar armour set and had 2 menagerie weapons and the legend of acrius and it still took last night to complete the strikes triumph for a tribute. It is going to take awhile for me to get bad juju.

I see one of the tribute granting triumphs is to wear Calus armour and weapons and do leviathan raid encounters. We should do the leviathan raid again

Yes, and some people have the catalyst too. The daily bounties aren't what you need to directly do, its placing tributes. You need to place 18 to unlock the mission for the gun, 45 for the catalyst and 50 for the exotic emote. You get tributes to place in the hall in 2 ways. 1 is completing triumphs on Destinations>Minor>Tribute Hall and the second is buying the 35 you can buy directly from the Visage of Calus.

However, as you might have noticed, they're quite expensive. Each of the daily bounties you complete discounts them by 1% so either you go broke buying as many as you can with the help of Spider as quickly as you can or you just play the game like normal until 8/27 and you'll hopefully get them all done.

OR, yes there is a cheese but you have to have not opened the tribute hall first. Outlined here.

What's nice is relative to other titles/seals, the new one for this event is quite easy. I just need to forge of bunch of weapons and its done.. and I HATE the forges.

Something confusing that I'm not a fan of is there are basically two sets of tributes needed to complete two separate tasks located in separate parts of the interface and its super annoying.

The triumphs required for the new Seal/Title are found by clicking the new seal and not anywhere else. The triumphs that reward tributes are located under Destinations>Minor>Tribute Hall.

Trying to maximize efficiency so i'm always working towards 2 or more things is frustrating having to bounce back and forth between these sections.

As I said, I've run Destiny 2 on a number of overclocked machines. One of which is my personal machine which is overclocked 24/7. My spare machine is an Intel 9600K @ 5.1GHz. I also ran it on a review system running a Core i9 9900K @ 5.0GHz. It runs on my Girlfriend's Ryzen 1700, which is also overclocked. A friend of mine dropped his machine off at my house for me to look at as it's unstable as hell. It locks up just at the Windows desktop but it hasn't ever locked up playing Destiny. That one is at stock settings, but the point is I don't think Destiny 2 is that sensitive. In testing for the Ryzen 9 3900X review, I ran tests on my Threadripper machine for comparison. It was stable doing everything but Blender. I had to track down why it was unstable and as a it turns out, my overclock wasn't 100% stable. Yet, it never crashed playing Destiny 2.

The thing is, I've seen systems pass really harsh programs like Intel's Burn in Test, OCCT, Prime95, etc. and then crash doing something mundane. Then you run something different like a Handbrake encode and the machine crashes immediately. I made some memory timing adjustments and now my system handles Blender and everything else just fine. If you are having to underclock your CPU to make Destiny 2 work, then something isn't right somewhere. That's what my two decades of overclocking experience tells me anyway. That's my $0.02 anyway.

Back on topic, I haven't got Bad JuJu yet. Frankly, I haven't had the time to grind that out. I've done some stuff, but I'm a long way off from getting it.

Got that the final step of bad juju last night, to that strike or whatever it is. Was waiting on a clan member to join. He's terrible, so we were gonna help him. He ended up taking forever and didn't show up. I hopped off and will probably solo it today.

Also, Dan, not trying to beat a dead horse, but this is a Destiny thread regardless, I'm pretty sure the game has shown the same symptoms at stock speeds too. Doesn't seem to be an uncommon thing by any means. That said, REALLY eyeballing a new Ryzen setup soon. It may not be absolutely necessary, but i don't wanna get too behind the curve on the system guts.Getting due for a big refresh.

Definitely do it solo. Its no where near the difficulty of other exotic missions and there is a 200 point triumph attached to it.

I would add that the game can be unstable. I used to get that crash to desktop trying to enter the Bergusia forge. That was a known issue. So the game does have problems like that. In any case, you'll want to hold off on that Ryzen 3000 setup as Destiny 2 will not run on any system with one of those CPU's in it. The second a fix for it is issued, I will let you guys know. AMD and Bungie are working on this.

I'm surprised the fix is a BIOS update and not a game update, though I wasn't aware of the Linux boot issue. Either way, that's some good news so people can get on enjoying the game.

If my 2700x wasn't basically idling playing this game, I would be interested in upgrading.

Fortunately I don't have to worry about PC issues untill they enable cross save lol. Man I'm so excited for bad juju, was disappointed about not being able to play till this weekend till I found out about the tribute glitch lol. Hopefully we don't get a big peepee slap for using jt
