Begun the GPU pricing wars have? AMD to lower Navi prices

Unless things drastically change on the performance front, RT is basically a no-go on anything below 2080 performance. So, maybe the 2070 Super can do some decent RT stuff but its not even worth talking about on the 2060 Super.

If you're okay with 30-40 FPS in SP games, my RTX 2070 averages 42 frame rates at 2560x1440, ultra settings in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, RTX set to high. My CPU is a Ryzen 2700X. Personally I don't think ray tracing is worth it as I prefer around 60 frame rates with it off but if you're willing to turn down another setting or two and maybe have a slightly faster CPU you can get by with semi acceptable performance.

I can see 2060 Super doing RT at 30+ fps in Cyberpunk at 1080p at max or close to max settings. Since it is a midrange card, that would be acceptable IMO. Where NVIDIA really messed up was not telling people outright, "hey this is first gen RT, its best used in SP games and not MP" because that is the hard truth. RT will almost never be good enough for MP no matter what generation we're on because MP games are competitive and therefore people turn down all the eye candy to get more fps. Have you tried Metro Exodus with that 2080 Ti and RT? My buddy just got a new 2080 Ti and Metro and was floored by the global illumination RT. I initially had little interest in RT myself but with Wolfenstein, CoD: MW and other games on the horizon, I might grab a 2080 Super as a hold over card until 3080 Ti shows up.

if I get less then 60fps in a game for one feature. its getting turned off lol when I have to look for the difference. Yea shadows might be nice when you can notice them, but its nice seeing it in still pictures but never jaw dropping when you are moving around focused on the game.

It would seem from reviews so far that the 5700XT needed quite a bit of power to match the regular 2070. Even at 7nm.

Runs pretty warm too apparently. Wonder how much is left in the tank for board partners to improve performance?

reference cards with blower will always run warm. I got one and the blower sounds nothing like the vega 64 blower under load. It does have much smoother sound to it. Temps are in the 80s max that I have seen after stress testing with fire strike ultra and ongoing. Boost clocks are well sustained. I think Partners can probably push this past 2ghz of course with more power and likely much cooler temps.

if you look at torture test temps then blower is absolutely going to struggle. That is asking for trouble lol. Not sure what you mean by quiet a bit of power, it beats the 2070 at 20 watts more I believe. Also 7nm isn't a miracle for power usage for GPUs. Look at VII the shrink gave it around 25% more performance at same power and that is with less shaders. This is the first step with RDNA, I think you are only going to see efficiency go up from here when they jump to RDNA 2, which is expected next year. That will likely be just higher end cards though.

Metro Exodus uses RT for global illumination. Trust me, that's not something you have to pause your game and look for the difference. Look at the Cyberpunk screenshots, they look beautiful with RT. I suspect Control and Wolfenstein will also look pretty nice. I'm excited to see what Infinity Ward did with CoD: MW and RT as that's a game I have been looking forward to for a long time. RT can't be ignored, it's in high profile AAA games and is making a difference and in SP, who cares about sub 60 FPS? You can use VRR to smooth it out. It's a significant feature that AMD left out of Navi which makes Navi far less interesting. What I don't get is why AMD put hardware RT in PS5 but not PC Navi.

Stock 2070 185W, Stock 5700XT 225W

it beats the 2070 so take that in to account. Lets not forget that and its using around 215w I believe. 225 is max.

Not by any impressive amount, and the RTX2070 is EOL. No one would sidegrade to a 5700XT from a vanilla 2070. At least I know I wont :)

ofcourse its not for those users lol.

My RTX experience is as follows. I purchased a 2080ti at launch, sold my 1080ti to recoup some of the cost. Played with it and the RTX games at the time(tomb raider/ battlefield) was unimpressed so I returned it. I bought a strix 2080 at a nice discount just to have something until I see what the next gen of raytracing cards can do. As of now its not viable in 2k for me with everything on ultra even when I had the 2080ti. I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 but I will probably play with it off if it can't stay above 60 and closer to 70-90 fps. When Nvidia launches their 7nm cards if there is at least 20% performance boost over the 2080ti in raytraced games I'll buy the TI.

As far as the next gen consoles no one knows if its built into the gpu or separate chip totally. I'm waiting with so it of interest in both how the pull it off and to the degree its utilized.

I didn't give a damn about RTX when I bought my 2070, but then God told me to turn it on.

Basically the 5700 goes toe to toe with the 2060 super for $50 less, and the 5700 XT its a tiny bit slower than a 2070 super for $100 cheaper.

AMD sure did win the price/performance on those cards no doubt.

lol, I've tried that and some other raytrace modded games. They are fun to get working then it just has a depth buffer issue when you are getting into it then the fun is over and time to delete and move on. For me besides being something to pay with here and there it's a feature in its infancy that I'm looking forward to devs making wonderful experiences for me to try on my next ray tracing card. If its at 2k 60+ or gives me 4k 60+ and HDR I will give them access to my bank account.

No matter what you say, the entire industry has already spoken, as well as the thousands of actual RTX owners (see forums). Nobody can afford the "RTX On" performance hit. And not too many people are paying $600+ on a new RTX to get less frames than the card they upgraded from. (That is regressed thinking....)

I find your style of post very entertaining... and bias. Because nobody here is paying a premium for "RTX On" 40fps stuff, that you are touting.
