Hi fellas,
My good old hd5450 died 2weeks ago and since that i've been surfing through the net to find the perfect card but i haven't yet find the one, so i finally come to you looking for advice,

My spec is:
CPU:Intel Pentium dual-core e6600 3.06GHz
MB P5g41t-m lx
PSU:420W
Ram:2x2GB 800mhz

So yeah i know i dont have the most powerful spec on earth but i would like to find a good vga for this spec. I've read things like R7 250x or even GTX 750TI is viable but I would like to ask for your opinions.

Have a great day.

Greets.
The first question anyone is going to ask you is simply... what do you use this system for?

Two choices:
1) Any 6-pin Video card you can find for under $30 bucks will work. (Your mobo is PCIe1.1 ?)
2) If overall system is inadequate, would be more prudent to upgrade to a Rasberriy Pi, or Nettop, or a NUC (all-in-one) type system.

I would suggest you look at Ryzen APU and see if you can get a AM4 (B450) motherboard + APU deal at something as a chain as Microcenter. The power supply would suffice but you would have to get DDR4 ram and supposedly is cheaper now then it was a few years back.

I would mainly want to play League of Legends and World of Warcraft smoothly. And as it has a PCIe 2.0 as i recall

I'd probably get a 750Ti if you're not upgrading anything else. Should be night and day difference vs. your old HD5450.

Are you sure that is the Motherboard? If so, then it is only PCIe1.1

Let me ask you one more question before I (We...) can help. Would you be able to swing $300 for a new system? Your computer still has a Front Side Bus and extremely old memory architecture. To give you a perspective, chances our any new phone would play those games better. If not... essentially any used graphic card you can find, will work and blow your old HD5450 away.

Trust me if I had $300 I would gladly buy a whole new PC. Sadly I don't. I don't consider myself a huge gamer I just like to play the above mentioned games once in a while. All I want to know sir is what is the best GPU my System can handle. :)

Any card that is PCIe powered. Or do you have a power connector to your card?

Understand, you are not going to gain anything in buying a powerful GPU. I would go up to the nearest Computer store and ask if they have any used GPUs, etc. If buying new, I wouldn't spend more than $30 bucks. Here is a start: NewEgg

Lastly, I am not sure what resolution you are playing those games at, but you have been short-selling yourself on being smooth. Any of those $20+ cards on NewEgg have 5x the performance as the 10 year old HD5450. Here is a HD6450 for $14 bucks... Another HD8350 for $28 bucks...

I think you get the idea, the only concern is that your previous GPU was powered by the SLOT itself. So you must buy a card that has no external power source.

If you live in a city with a Microcenter you could buy a Asus x370 prime motherboard for $50 and throw a $60 Ryzen 2200G at it. Buy 8GB (2x4GB) PC 3000 ram for $50.

That’s a Vega 8 GPU built into the CPU and would be quite a bit faster overall system than you can cobble together elsewise with that old e6600 and slow RAM — and would still work fine off your 420 watt PSU.

Yeah i dont want to buy a powerful GPU just one witch is better than my old one and still fit into my pc. I Will look the link up thank you kindly.

Yeah, check out those links. I updated my post with a few more links. Good Luck!

Grab a 750 Ti from Ebay and rock on. Just make sure you are running latest BIOS on your motherboard.

If you already have Radeon Drivers, then I would suggest just sticking with that brand, as nothing too powerful is going to make a difference. If you look right, there are some good deals. That HD8350 (or close) will go good with your duo-core system...

Your CPU & System is outclassed by the 750ti. Your CPU is DX10 and as you know simply outdated (10 years old).

For about $20 bucks'ish (USED) is your best bet.

So is the 750Ti compatible with my pc?

I would think so. Also, I've found NV cards to run WOW better than AMD cards and since that is your use case that is why I'm suggesting the 750 Ti.

Not to mention it is a better/newer card than an HD8350.

At least do yourself a favor and upgrade the processor for $8 to a quad core.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...eDesc=0&rt=nc&Number%20of%20Cores=4&_dcat=164

I 2nd this.. 1000000000% understand "tight budget but need to upgrade so I can get some work done and play a few games"

fast Core 2 dual such as E8400 or up) or prefered quad core (for the modern day machines) "at least" that fast, which would be Q9700 (OEM only) Q9550s being the "prefered" to keep power down etc, but pricier as well.

from days when I was using my old E8400 EO (could handle 4.31Ghz+) the Q 8xxx and 9xxx were more than capable of handling anything (somewhat better when multiple work tasks due to more cores) though the fast duals for older games and/or emulation wise were "snappier" (fell flat on their face with "heavier" modern spec games, nothing like rubber band dying all the time LOL.

faster cpu especially for that price, holy hell.. wonder pricing for something even more modern?)

as for the gpu bit
if your motherboard supports pci express in a x16 slot (with enough power to provide to the system due to higher electrical needs from the addition)
than a Geforce 750Ti, 950, 1030/40 and up
Radeon RX 450 and up.

to each their own etc

if pcie v 2.0 than even the most modern GPU will "work" though not get a chunk of what it can give (bottleneck)
I do not picture this being all the much a problem overall as likely the cpu will run out of grunt before the gpu would be able to give to you anyways (folks ran dual high end on pcie 2.0 x4/x4 for years and years gaming just fine)

good luck.

The Bios and/or GPU determines what DX version you are capable of using, NOT the cpu lad
CPU only job is to sift through information, nothing more, if the OS does not allow a higher DX version, than you do not get it regardless if the BIOS and/or GPU can handle it

What version of Windows are you using?

Also, are you currently using the on-board graphics in the mean time?

Typo! (& refrain from the nasties, as I am a 50 year old adult.)
Obviously... I was stating his GPU was outdated... (ie: 10 years old)

Windows 7 32bit
and nope I'm currently using my laptop 'till I find out wich card should I buy.

I don't have time to look (sorry) but I think you have on-board VGA graphics that you can enable. I might be wrong, that was so long ago and so many CPU & sockets gone through my head...

Also some of you mentioned intel quad-core cpu-s. I am thinking of upragading the cpu and buy a less powerful card. The thing i want to know is wich intel quad-cores are worth buying? Also what vga do you suggest next to it. Sorry for robbing your time but im really new to this as you can see.

I know it has one but its so awful. Worse than my late hd5450

I was just mentioning it, in case you had to boot up, or gimp by until you get it running.
Cheers!

:) so I am not that much of an idiot am I? Alright one more question cuz i wanna do math with the numbers now :D.

What GPU should I buy what fits in fine?

What kind of case do you have? Is it full size?

Your PCI-E slot is not a limitation for your card. Move past that question. You could put any card in there. All the new cards are backwards compatible with 2.0. They won’t even suffer that much with speed based on PCI-E 2.0 vs 3.0. You could put a 2080ti in there if you had the power supply that could handle it.

Your limit is your 420 watt PSU, your case size and heat dispersion capability, (Is it some cheap case with one single 80mm fan?)

You will primarily be limited by the rest of your components that will severely bottleneck a new graphics card. I wouldn’t throw any more money at that old system. That Vega system I linked earlier will bring you into the modern age of gaming for $150. Modern direct X, freesnyc, with plenty of future upgrade options as well. WAY BETTER CHOICE.

But it sounds like cheap is the name of the game, so buy that $8 quad core CPU and the best cheap graphics card you can afford based on this Tom’s hardware chart performance tiering.

Scroll down to where it says legacy GPU hardware. Note that it’ll take two tiers (two rows) difference to subjectively feel a nice improvement.

Looks like it would work with ANY of the core 2 quads, all the way up to the best in the series the q9650.

So whatever you find cheap from a reputable seller on eBay that fits in the performance tiering you want.

Luckily for you Tom’s hardware also has a CPU tiering chart to compare performances.

It is good to hear honestly. So i think I Will buy the q9650. Now all I need is a good vga to Match it all

Q9650 is five full tiers higher than the e6600. That’s a pretty significant jump in CPU performance. You’ll notice that jump for sure.

Even then though the q9650 is still three tiers down from the $60 AMD 2200G at Micro-center.

CPU- $60
https://www.microcenter.com/product...m4-boxed-processor-with-wraith-stealth-cooler

Motherboard - $50
https://www.microcenter.com/product/476089/prime-x370-pro-am4-atx-amd-motherboard

Purchased in store together these may qualify for a $30 instant rebate. So 60+50-30.

Then find a deal on 3000Mhz or higher RAM. You want 2x4GB so you can run I with dual channel bandwidth.

16GB 32000Mhz RAM - $62

I have in intel Core2Quad Q6600 with a G41 intel mobo. I coupled it with a gtx 1070 just for kicks and it did surprisingly well.

not suggesting you get one of those, but don't be afraid of getting say a gtx 960 or so.

Wow finally someone with the same "problem". I dont have the budget for a 960 right now and i dont play very often so a 750Ti will do it for me just fine. I really approtiate your feedback thank you :)

Oh, my God, I know that old man firsthand. It's such a pain was with this video card, very good that I bought a new computer recently. If you do not want to buy a used graphics card, it is better to buy 1030
