Masters Of Doom pilot produced by James & Dave Franco

USA Network has given a pilot order to Masters of Doom, a drama based on David Kushner’s nonfiction book, from James and Dave Franco’s Ramona Films, The Gotham Group and UCP. Masters of Doom is being eyed as an anthology series, with the first installment based on Kushner’s book, published by Random House in 2003.

Written and executive produced by WGA Award winner Tom Bissell (Gears of War), Masters of Doom is the true story of two computer geniuses in an obscure corner of America who, along with a group of rebellious misfits, created one of the biggest franchise hits of the 90s, the video game Doom. John Carmack and John Romero were best friends who became bitter rivals, as they created a video game empire and transformed pop culture forever.

Not sure to feel about this. I love id Software games but I have never cared about their personal lives, even on the job. Listening to Carmack talk about stuff on stage, or during an interview is one thing, but "the process" is their business. What do you think?

It could be interesting if it mostly focuses on the actual making of the game and fills in parts with a bit of their lives at the time.

But no I agree I don’t really care about their personal lives beyond maybe the occasional anecdote, like I’ve read Carmack back in the day would do email correspondence with....well anyone and help them with their home programming. I think that story is from someone on [H] actually. That’s the kind of personal stuff I think is neat to hear.

Sound cool but I can't see my self watching it

I'm game to check it out. Mark Zuckerberg seems like a douche canoe based in how he's shown but I found how deplorable he was in "the social network" pretty good in a movie. Carmack, I absolutely adore, so looking forward to it.

I actually like this stuff.

It's a little bit of the American dream personified: a few good ideas, a few really smart people, and a metric butt-ton of work. Amazing product delivered, followed by Ferraris. How awesome is that?

If the question is really who I find more interesting, Carmack, hands down. He's a brilliant mind, and is very generous with his time and knowledge. I think we're probably very similar, except he's 1000x smarter.
Romero seems like a nice guy, but I'm an introvert and ego+swagger is not my scene.
