Hi guys,

I ended up getting an Acer Helios 300 laptop after much bullshit with some ASUS ones over the past month.

It came with a 256gb m.2 drive as the boot drive, and has 1 open m.2 and one open sata drive.

After getting it all booted up originally, I populated the m.2 slot with the 1tb inland nvme drive from Microcenter, and an old mushkin 500gb ssd in the 2.5 inch bay.

I also swapped out the 2x8gb sticks of ram for 2x16gb sticks.

And that's when the issue started, Windows will not restart when the system is fully loaded like this. You click on restart in Windows, the screen turns off, but the keyboard LED's stay lit, and the fans keep spinning. The system never powers all the way down to reboot. Have to manually hold down the power button, then press power again to boot it.

Shut down from within windows works fine.

Acer support had me try reinstalling windows, which didn't help. Gotta be hardware.

Took the system back to stock hardware, RAM back to the original 2 sticks, extra SSD's removed.

Restart working fine.

Put the 2x16gb ram back in, still on stock SSD.

Restart working fine.

Put the 1tb SSD back in the other m.2 slot.

Restart NOT working.

This is my first time working with m.2 or nvme drives. I'm not sure what to do. I am past the return period on the SSD (because it was fine in the original laptop I bought it for)

Acer says it's a problem with the drive.

I need to reach out to Microcenter and see if they'll give me a replacement or a refund.

My other thought was to mirror the 256gb drive on to the 1tb and swap it in to the primary m.2 slot to see if it's the drive specifically, or maybe the slot? (anyone have a good free imaging software that can transfer the OS between 2 SSD's like that? or perhaps I should just do a clean windows install on the 1tb?)

This is driving me nuts, I've been trying to get a new laptop operational for over a month now, and I had to send 3 ASUS Zephyrus's back to Amazon for defects.

Any feedback or resources would be greatly appreciated, all my googlefu turns up is laptops that won't boot, which is not my issue.

Thanks in advance.

Update, put the inland drive in the primary slot, installed windows, failed to restart to complete installing windows.

Definitely the drive.

Seeing now if MC will give me an exception on a return.
