Hitman 2 (2018)

The game is still amazing and continues to enjoy robust support.
Yup. I recently finished it and it was much more challenging than Hitman. Level design was stellar.

Looking forward to a third installment.

DX12 patch was put in, which is what I needed to fix to the crashing under DX11 that either nvidia or the IO interactive couldn't fix. Not sure why this wasn't in at release given it's just Hitman with new levels.

Personally I continue to have bad luck with DX12 in terms of stability issues and I'm at the point I just avoid it.

There some technical refinements they made on this second one over the its immediate predecessor which is why they threw in the first one "remastered" as a bonus for people that were all in. I'd have to look it up to see more specifically but it was engine tweaks and some other odds and ends.

Just enough to rock the apple cart apparently. ;)

I hated the previous installment. I basically run and gun my way through the Hitman games. The fact that it seemed impossible to do that in the reboot game meant that I stopped playing it after a day or two. I have no patience for the stealth being forced on me. It seemed like the guns were virtually useless as the enemies always knew where you were and a single hit from anything would take you out instantly. So I haven't looked into this newer one. Did they make it so you could run and gun again?

No, it's not that type of game.

I mean, you can technically run and gun like the last one, but you'll do terrible in the mission, and not get to do any of the cool assassinations.

It's really meant to be played as a stealth game, and finding all the different ways to kill the targets is what it's designed around.

DX12 ran like ass on my system. Had to stick with DX11 to get smoother FPS. And even with that I had to run most settings on medium.

I'm pretty good at shooters and found run and gun style gameplay was virtually if not totally impossible. Part of the reason for that was the AI always knowing exactly where you were if you alerted anyone. If the second one is like that, I'll pass.

This game just downloaded a 32 GB patch for me, now the total size is like 110 GB (!!). I can't really find any info on what was added?

Did you not have the legacy pack installed? Install size for the full game+legacy pack is 108GB.

I thought I did..maybe not. Not sure why it took it like two weeks or so to download, though, after installing the game.

That's probably it, though. Thanks!

PSA:

The Heist story mission has been glitched for some people including myself. Be aware of it and try the workaround suggested in this thread. (I'll have to try it myself.)

Other than that this level has a lot of fun and shenanigans going for it. Good stuff!

I didn't do heist yet, gonna wait for the extra challenges that they are adding before coming back to Hitman 2. I don't want to burn out of it, already sunk 250+ hours into it. So hopefully the glitches are fixed before then ;)

Holy 250 hours that is crazy

So all the DLC should be out by the end of the year right? I'm only interested in the SP maps and extra missions. The ones one a story and voice over. Liked the game but it had too many issues with RTX cards and Nvidia drivers didn't play along well with the game either, so hopefully by the time all the DLC is done Nvidia/IO will fix it.

I haven't tried it again since the crashing was never fixed. That being said, they patched in DX12 a while back. DX12 fixed the issues with the first game, so i'm pretty confident it likely fixed it here.

Personally I've had no crashes with DX12, but haven't played in about a month. The map I used to crash most on was Colorado in DX11 and it was completely playable after the DX12 update.

Just loaded up the game using the DX12 render addition for the first time. The game runs far smoother now and I don't have any of the constant crashes I had on my 2080ti.

I'm still dumbfounded and fairly angry they didn't have this shipped with the game given that it shipped with the first game, and this is one of the few game engines that performs far better with DX12.

It's a new version of their engine. Took them time to develop it. Also this is probably one of the reasons why it performs better: They took the time to do it right. Just taking DX11 shader code and slamming it in to a DX12 path is not going to be useful, to really see any improvement, it is going to take dedicated work on that rendering path. So I can understand. If you only have time to get one render path done before your launch, get the one that supports everyone done, and finish the new one later. DX12 is still a niche technology. It requires people to be on Windows 10 (which a surprisingly large number of gamers aren't) and you need rather current hardware, for nVidia only a 900, 1000, or 2000 series does it. While the 900 series aren't new, they aren't that old either, maybe 4 years. Not everyone upgrades their computer all the time, components are lasting a good bit these days.

I get that.

My point is that this game has very little different with it from the prior game. It’s literally almost the same game. The last game had it, so it made no sense here.

It's tedious but if you go on a rabbit trail search about this there were some "refinements and changes" made on the engine vs the first game...just enough...that *might* have accounted for the extra difficulties here.

Digging this up because I've actually started playing this a lot lately. I like how the mission stories sort of give you some guidance and help you figure out methods you might not have known possible. I have the Legacy pack, and since I never put much time into the first game I've started at the beginning and have been trying to do each mission several times to get most if not all of the mission stories completed.

I get the impression, though, that the game can be a bit tedious before you unlock more of the items that you can use, since you can apparently go back and do earlier missions with all of the fancy new items. Like emetic poisons, other distraction devices, etc. Without some of the items it's a bit of a pain and often you have to wander the map for awhile trying to source some rat poison or something.

Sniper Assassin is kind of fun, but the progression seems dog slow. Is there much point in going for full mastery, or is it pretty much self-contained?

The levels always provide you a number of things right from the get go if you take your time and explore.

I usually just check checked certain challenges to see what the rewards are and focus on those. Mastery is great to do and all but I wouldn't get lost in it. Just enjoy it! :)

I am real happy with the new content and the tropical paradise get away.

It's best if you play through with the event tips turned off. It's tedious, but it's well worth it to not be walked through what you need to do and figure out all the methods on your own.

Yeah, I don't have enough time to play as it is, so I like the fact that they guide me along a bit. :p At least for the first few playthroughs of the level.

I haven’t finished this yet but pick it up often. Very much enjoy the crap out of this game.
