This is a weird one:

1. Windows 10, up to date, month old fresh install. Everything else works fine.
2. When I try to open file explorer (explorer.exe) in any way:
a. It will not open.
b. The task bar moves from the bottom of the screen to the top.
c. In Task Manager, (where explorer is already running) it briefly says "Suspended"
3. I tried resetting explorer options - no dice.
4. Path to file is right, file appears to be the correct one (has the MS hash)
5. Any ideas?

may or may not apply, you can try turning off the indexing service to see if that does anything

I had an odd instance where that happened to me. I took a look at event logs and they were not very informative for due to massive noise on the Internet. Doing a simple reboot solved the problem.

I would test the following:
1) Run Explorer on the command line.
2) Download and run smarmontools. This can check to see how your drive is doing.
3) Run a full offline file system check because crap happens.
4) See if TronScript can fix it.

There might be some third party applications that is conflicting withing your system. Try performing a clean boot to eliminate these conflicts. Here's how:

1. Click the start screen, and type msconfig. Click system configuration.

2. On the System configuration window, select the services tab.

3. Click the box at the bottom, beside the hide all Microsoft services text.

4. Click "Disable all" at the right side.

5. Click Apply, then OK, and it will ask you to restart your computer so just click OK again.

I'll try both of these suggestions - so far it's just been an inconvenience and I've been busy, but I just tried to open MSPAINT and it won't open at all. There isn't any unique data on my C: drive, but I'm wondering if it could be the drive. I think it's at least 4 years old, maybe older. (256GB)
